Lenny's Modding the new Gin Palace

What temperature do you set the controller to switch on the fans Lenny?
On the last van I found set to 35 deg worked well fans came on when ambient was 25deg, so I will start there and see how in goes. I think I set the hysteresis to 2 deg the standard setting of 5 is a bit wide.

Sorry @Lenny HB for all the questions:oops: Parts ordered, so again thank you for the links.

I see you've used cat5 which I presume is to feed power to the controller from the fused supply to the fridge and then back from the controller to power the fans as and when the relay clicks in, is this correct?

Regarding sensor location, where have you fixed yours?
Yes, it was convenient as I had cat5 cables and a connector around & used bullet connectors for the main power in, only done so the grill was easy to remove, I used cat5 fly cables has they use flex where as cat5 structure cables are solid. Didn't bother with a separate fuse as I took the power from the oven light/ignitor input which is a 2A fused supply.

If you look at the 1st photo the sensor is on top of the angle alloy between the fans, mounting it on the alloy gives a bit more stability to the switching as it will not be affected so much by air currents (well that's my theory).
That reminds me must tidy up that sensor wire it looks scraggy.:)

Relay fitted in series with the water pump to take the load off the micro switches, found a pair of connectors in my spares box so I was able to make up a loom and plug it in.

Edit: must go and trim that cable tie.:)

RCD for the inverter @eddievanbitz will like it, I'm not happy instructions say altitude limit 2000m won't be able to use the inverter at all the good wild spots.

Sorted out the wiring for auto switching the mains so the sockets auto switch from the inverter when on EHU.

Excellent modding thread @Lenny HB and have to admit to copying some myself:)

Have a fantastic trip(y)

Also fitted one of the cheap £30 trackers, undecided yet to fit the cutout relay that can be wired into the ignition or fuel relay.
Found out the hard way doesn't work with a Three sim had to put a Giff Gaff one in it.

Brilliant thread Lenny, amazing work :clap2:

Would you advise where you got your "Tracker Kit" from? Hopefully it comes with Instructions for those less able.....!:blush:

Oh, and have a great trip ..... you deserve it.

Happy MH-ing, all

John

Tracker is a TK103A from Amazon, for a few quid more you can get one with a remote I think it is a 103B.
Instructions are a bit naff but for basic operation you only need to connect a supply.

Found some baskets in a Casa today that make neat draw organisers, may get the tram back into town in the morning and get some more.

Ohh no I bought a 3 sim for my tracker I've just got.
How come they don't work any ideas why they don't work?

I think they use the PDU text format the tracker needs one that uses the older Text format for text.
I did the same but it was only a fiver just put it in a spare phone and used the credit.

Found it useful the other day got lost on the bikes in France, didn't have my Satmap with me so I phoned the tracker and got the position of the van.:D

Amazon (well one of their associated supplier folk in China!) delivered a TK103A today, when I had ordered/paid for the TK103B. D'oh!

Let's see how the "Contact Seller" system works..... my chinese isn't particularly good!

Hope your trip is going well, and warm! :D

@Lenny HB how's the fridge fan modification performing, especially inconsideration of the higher French temps your are currently experiencing?

That's a bu**er I thought a tenner on three would last me :)

Especially as most other suppliers only go thirty day payg.

Giff Gaff sim works well and doesn't expire & you can check balance online, costs five times as much as Three, text 5p. TalkTalk works but I gave up trying to work out their charges.

Three sims are 3G or 4G, I suspect the tracker works on the older 2G technology, same reason why Three sims won't work in old mobiles or some of the newer Dora ones (the basic function ones) which are 2G.

In the case of the tracker it is the text format, the tracker needs the text in "text" format I think Three use the newer PDU format for text.

Again, I suspect this is down to the old format being part of the original 2G connectivity. I forgot my phone once when I went to our static caravan and bought a cheapo at a car boot sale to tide me over and got a '3' sim to use with it, it only dawned on me later why I couldn't get it working ... had to go change it for an EE sim which was 2G.
