Lenny's Heading South, not a Clue Where.

Wow that was cheap.
Actually its a realistic price for Menu del Dia...however the original concept of providing a cheap but nutritional meal that workers can afford, has since become overtaken by offering it to everyone... including tourists...
When we left the UK in 1998 our local restaurants were doing Menu at 1000 -1200 pasatas, which if I remember rightly was 270 to the pound...seaside location...outside seating...so good were the old times..

I didn't realise that was the original idea of menu del dia, make good sense though.
In rural Spain you can still find the original idea a set meal, a choice of fish or meat if your lucky but some still only offer a set menu with no choice, in Galicia last year we had a 3 course meal for €8 each with no menu just 1 starter 1 main and desert and it was good😀

We once went to a random hotel in France where everyone in the town (so it seemed) was having lunch in the garden at the rear. There was no menu but it was 4 courses with wine, I can't remember the price but it was cheap. The cheese board was passed from table to table and the bread just kept coming.

I'm not going to live this trip down.
Now at El Puerto de Santa María.

We've stayed in that camp site a few times. You can get a ferry to Cadiz which we did and of course visit a sherry bodega, which I recommend if you haven't been to one although I guess you have. :)

I’ll second that, the lakes there are beautiful and the walk is good fun. As long as you are okay with heights. From memory I think it’s wise to book ahead, but I could be wrong.
El Choro, need to go there again, me a pal walked as far as we dare in the early nineties, before it was repaired, no hand rail, holes in the concrete, very scary and probably stupid 🤣

So not on the freebie park up right on the seafront at PhiPhi beach just round the corner then?
All the reviews sounded bad & it was peeing with rain so couldn't be bothered.

Might be ‘in the season’ but we were there in April and it was an excellent spot and right on the cycle path to the ferry terminal and the town centre.

I've never paid more than €10-15 euros for a menu del dia in Spain. Often 4 courses with wine

Even cheaper in rural Portugal. I had 3 courses plus wine and then coffee for €7.50 several times back in 2019 ( gawd I never realised it was that long ago till I typed that. )

1 year BC (before covid) 🤣🤣
Yes .

That said 2 years ago I ate out in Spain a few times with Jackie and we never paid more than 10 or 12 euros then either.

I'm planning to do a bit of inland Portugal again next march while I look for some land so be interesting to see if the prices have changed much

You could have told me.
That's happening a lot nowadays I found. Folk leave bad reviews hoping it's then quieter. I prefer to just go see for myself.

I really liked that beach there. Admittedly it's a few years since I've been . I didn't do round cadiz etc last trip as I had all the vet stuff going on with the dogs before morroco but I'll be back round all that area this year as andalusia is my favourite area of spain.

I thought you stayed on the site, one of the reasons I went for the site.

No mate, FLT’d at Phi Phi beach then we ended up paying for the extremely pricey but incredibly convenient parking right on the sea wall in Cadiz.

Paul.
