Lenny's going for a ponder around France

Not on my line Lenny but as I said maybe it's a regional thing.

Enjoy anyway.

Hi Lenny
What camera are you using to get map reference within the pic. Great idea by the way.
My phone, camera app called open camera.

The photos without co-ordenates are take on our camera that has GPS as well but only displays a pushpin on Google maps when you view on a PC.

Nice parking area looks like they mowed the grass, word must have got out you were coming.
It is an official Aire municipal, municipal site behind the hedge next door.
Really nice spot total peace and quiet, apart from the odd car coming along the lane.
And of course it's Free.

Funny tonight a few people have walked by obviously staying on the site. Looked at us then noticed the very small Aire sign. You could see by their expressions they were peeved they were paying for the site.

It is not obvious as you can't see the sign from the way you have to approach and it is just a grass area. We went straight by on our first pass.

We stayed at Liverdun aire last year, we nearly missed it too. Nice spot but not a lot in the town.

As we were only 16km from Nancy thought we would pop in for a few hours and have a look.
The old town main touristy bit are quite good the rest of it a bit scruffy.

Just remembered when we were at Toul one MH didn't buy a parking ticket but the parking attendant came round early next morning, woke him up and marched him over to the ticket machine. I think it was a Dutch MH.

A few more km up stream for tonight now at Richardmenil. FLT status back in tack, nice small Aire with service & EHU all free. Never used EHU so much as on this trip.

There is a notice saying you can make a donation in the mail box at the Marie. We walked a mile up to the Marie, no sign of a mail box.

Just found your thread after 3 days with no Wi-Fi or 3G. It was also good to meet you both at Pont a Mousson. As a moderately novice motorhomer and a very novice funster, I’m sure it was an informative evening, if only I could remember. That amount of wine has that effect.
We’ve now reached Austria on a slow meander down to Croatia, all going well so far. Hopefully we’ll meet up again sometime.
P.S. this is my first post!

What's happened to summer had one day last week at 30° then it dropped to 19° by Friday, today a bit better today but still a cool 24° and mornings are cold 14-15° at 9to10 am.

Got me posts in the wrong order.

On the way to Remiremont went look at fort d'Uxegney. Arrived at 12pm sign on gate saying only open Sunday 2pm to 4pm.

Gate open no one around so we wandered in after wandering around ¾ hr found our way back to the entrance you will love this "we were locked in".
Not to be outdone we formed an escape committee and set to work with a plan.

1st plan failed, saw a volunteer workman on the other side of the side gate we were locked behind which led to the man gate. Attracted his attention and got met with a barrage of French managed to explains we were English, he said in fairly good English " I don't speak English" and disappeared out the main gate. Well it was lunch time, nothing comes between a Frenchman and his lunch.

2nd plan, went back inside tried all room & doors until we finally found one we could open that led to the other side of the gate.
Success made a run for it and escaped.:D

Been to that Fort or similar on the Sunday it’s part of the Maginot Line massive below ground. They were running underground railway and had one of the guns rotating.

great thread, my favourite, other peoples experiences of French aires :)(y)

don't really like to say it has been cracking the flags here today, still 20C here tonight and we are way north

but hope to take advantage of the better ones you have found later this year ourselves :)(y)

Now at Remiremont, nice newish Aire 31 large spaces shame nearly all of them have a two way slope. Only 2 other vans here. €6/24 HR, EHU €2 I think.

Hi Lenny @Lenny HB
We stayed in that aire a couple of years ago and were completely on our own, which is a a shame as it's a cracking facility. I wonder if being so close to the train tracks puts people off? We hardly noticed the trains...
Cheers
Steve

It's the end of the line so virtually no train noise, none at all overnight.
As you say really nice Aire, must have cost a fortune and completely under used.

On a smashing free Aire at Ventron in the Vosges.
No problem finding places to stop the night around here. Drove through several villages with signs up saying "P Camping Car" just pointing to the village carpark and not even listed on Park4night.

Technical bits:
Well pleased with the new Votronic solar regulator I fitted recently, fridge has been running for a few hours on 12v every day since we have been away.

Now here is a weird one, one of the warranty bits sorted at Campirama was new hinges on the TecTower oven door.
Now what's weird is the oven now works like an oven rather than a warming draw.

We even cooked a bread & butter pudding in it tonight.

Yes we did scoff the lot, bloated now.

What a great thread, I just love the pictures and giving us so many ideas for a tour...thank you!
Just been googling some of the places you mention. Does your camera give you a map with the pins showing the locations so we can see where you have been and the rough route?
