@movan It looks alright to me, if you hadn’t told me there was a mistake I wouldn’t have known. I just could not get to grips with proper knitting when both my nan and mum tried to teach me, I can only cope with 1 needle ;)

Well ... made a right mess when stitching together ... will have to undo it all and put it together again .... but not now ... will start afresh tomorrow.

Thanks for your help everyone. Xxxx

Practice makes perfect Joy. I can't knit so good for you for giving it a go.

I gave them to @old-mo to pass on when he sees you.

Thank you for the poppies received from Old-Mo - sorry but I don't know who they are from :(

I do that as well as I prefer the look and think it is harder wearing.

@movan I think your little cardi is amazing and will be loved and loved and loved. Only you will ever notice the mistakes, everyone else will only notice the love that went into making it.
Thankyou for passingthe flowers for Amanda, will post a pic with her with them when we get them The poppies that Maurice gave you were from me Helen. Also the poppies Mick and passed on were from me and some from Lisa as well x
Havinv a break from poppies at min, let us know if you need any more.

Joy @movan Just had a thought:Eeek:
What stitch are you using to sew up the garment. I use an oversew stitch on ribbing only and in your case just for the moss stitch. Then change to back stitch for the rest of the seam. Pin the two edges together and stitch just inside the edge. It's neat and hides any loose edges.

@joy looking forward to seeing your finished cardi x

Thanks Kate. Made such a mess putting it together am thinking of scrapping it and starting again with the wool from Aldi?

Really disappointed with myself ... watched too many videos and got confused. :(

Thanks Pam ... that's what I did in my teens and no problems but watched all this You Tube stuff saying how to make invisible seams etc etc etc I thought I had been doing it wrong ...

Getting frustrated with myself ... I don't recall all this decreasing in different ways dependent on how many stitches you are losing .. technology can be a pain with these old brain cells.

I have a jumper I finished knitting two years ago and still haven't sewn it up. Blocking the pieces does help as the edges lay a little flatter.

Thank you so much Kate and Lisa. I felt so bad not being able to say thank you personally.

I love your purple poppies Joy @movan

I think I now have enough poppies and one of today's tasks is to take a tape measure to the memorial and plan out the crown and the drape properly, then I can get the fabric and start to sew.

I thought I had been doing it wrong ...

Just an alternative way - if it works for you and you are happy in the way you are working then stick to the right way (for you).

I agree - but sometimes you do pick up an idea or two :) and have a light bulb moment.

This might be my alternative travelling project along with the poppies.

https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=5959&cid=19

I'll make it longer though - and might do an alternative square rather than the traditional granny. By the time I have finished making changes you won't realise I started with that pattern. I am genetically incapable of following any pattern for very long.

My go-to cardi isn't really fit to be worn any more so I need a new one.

That would be striking :)

I love that but without sleeves .. is that a free pattern?

That's lovely!

I keep meaning to have a go at a jacket made with these motifs...

Nice to see you posting again Janine.

Well ... and please don't anybody say too much ... am struggling at the moment with this blasted depression .... my pink cardigan has gone in the bin. :(

Last night I stayed up till about 2am this morning just sewing it together ... I was so excited but it was such a mess because I had made too many mistakes in the making .. it looked horrendous on the seams .

So this morning I decided to take the sleeves off and knit new ones .. but when I tried to do this I had done such a good job attaching the original ones I couldn't get them off .. I had sewn all the spare strands into them too ... So then I tried to cut the wool .....and I cut the cardigan by mistake ... utterly despondent wit it.

So no knitting today but I will do it again from scratch .. maybe not with the same expensive wool (I have some left) but with the lilac that many of us got from Aldi.

I really need someone to SHOW me stuff and then I can do it ... videos and books are no use to me .. hence I don't read instruction manuals on goods.

Please don't say anything ... I'm weepy.... but just wanted to tell you how crappy I am and that I am starting again.

PS

Thanks @SueTayBon for being on the end of the phone today.. and putting up with me. Xx

You are not alone there! I couldn't even guess at the number of times I've unravelled stuff because it doesn't look like the picture or I've read the instructions wrong or I just don't like it.

What's the saying? (Wo)man who never makes mistakes never makes anything!

@movan come on who has made hundreds of lovely Poppy's when your friend here can't even manage a magic circle, your completely right it's so frustrating when you see others doing it so easily and it just won't click , but you know when Eden gets whatever you make she will love it because nana made it. Sending a virtual hug, but I do understand x

WELL! Two nights ago after my last post I thought ...am I going to let this beat me.... answer ... NO.

So I took the cardi out of the bin, CUT the sleeves off and spent hours trying to get the remaining bits and wool out of the body part.

Knit 2 more sleeves (making exactly same mistakes) :( .. and put them on as best I could ... workjng day and night between anything I couldn't get out of.

Rubbish result but despite it looking a mess I thought Eden could play in it till it fell to bits .. which will probably be pretty quickly.

So I have just sewn two lots of press studs on it so that she can fasten it .. (taking forever as usual ) ... guess what ... I've put them on upside dow so they can't fasten!!!!!!!! Back to undoing again .. totally decided I am NOT a crafter .. but I AM a perseverer!!!!!:doh::pray2::pray2::pray2:

Right. Before I jump in feet first again .. can you advise please.

I bought lots of that Aldi wool when we all did ... double knit.

I have decided ..but you can tell me not to ... to knit squares from it and make it into a waistcoat .. sleeveless

Probably 3 squares across each front side
5 sqares up but seven squares up on the 2nd square across so that it goes up to top of shoulder
Not sure across back .. 7 or 8.

Hope you understand that ...

WILL THIS WORK?

@movan I haven’t done anything with arms yet so I think others will be much more qualified to advise.

I have ordered wool for some bigger projects for our autumn winter trip away and am intending to make. Fingers crossed I can follow the pattern ;)

Knit or crochet? @movan

Have a look at www.ravelry.com - you can use the search facility to find a pattern that suits.

Thanks Janine .

It says I have to join to look ... I'm guessing it's safe? I have trouble with spam .. I'm thinking crochet .. my knitting project was pretty rubbish :( .

Thanks. :)

Wow .. love that ... how do I bring that pattern up please?

Sooo who wants my poppies now??? AND shall I make some more? I have black centre's already made to attach the red part to, but I can use them for other flowers if poppy making is done!!!
