Learn to crochet?

My head is now buzzing with ideas!! The Big C where I do my mini teaching course has all sorts of knitting, crochet and sewing magazines at 10p each. I can't resist a bargain and today I came home with five dressmaking patterns 50p each. I've been bitten by the dressmaking bug and this afternoon found in my stash a 2 metre piece of cotton fabric 44 inches wide which is enough to make a sundress. Cut it out this afternoon and will have a crack at making it before we go away on Friday. I intend to make a short-sleeved jacket to wear with it (for decency sake) but don't have the fabric for that yet.;)

Well ..can do no more .. it still needs pressing.. but thankfully finished .. with loads of mistakes ..

Time to move on. :)

Also, I prefer to sew them together, just picking up a stitch alternately from each motif - it gives a flatter seam than crocheting them together.

Thanks Janine .. the reason I ask is because I hate undoing anything. I have LOADS of 'squares' .. loose term ... that are all cocked up so I have decided when I have a few more I am going to make what I will call an Higgledy Piggledy Wiggly Waistcoat wit them .. :) .i.e. as though the mistakes are MEANT to be. ;)

I give up.... somewhere on this thread is a picture ..I THINK Ven posted it of a square waistcoat followed also by a coat posted by Janine. I thought ut in last 3 pages but I can't find it.

:(

I have decided ..but you can tell me not to ... to knit squares from it and make it into a waistcoat .. sleeveless

Probably 3 squares across each front side
5 sqares up but seven squares up on the 2nd square across so that it goes up to top of shoulder
Not sure across back .. 7 or 8.

Hope you understand that ...

WILL THIS WORK?

I don't see why not as long as the squares are the correct size so that when done it will fit you.

This is a copy of Paul McCartney's crochet waistcoat but you could do similar with knitted squares. i would make sure you block and steam them though.

Sooo who wants my poppies now??? AND shall I make some more? I have black centre's already made to attach the red part to, but I can use them for other flowers if poppy making is done!!!

Does Amanda @Ambilkate need them?

I've decided to make some poppies for our van we have a camouflage net I'm going to put them on and i shall make a display in Van as wellwso when we next go To Aromanges in France can have our own display, don't know when that's gonna happen though . I shall still continue to make them for other displays if people let us know they want them. . I had thought I might just have a go at doing other things for awhile when I get the chance.

Sounds lovely :)

Do you have any secret 'tips' please Pam for joining squares together?

Make sure the corners match up - you can be creative making the rest of the stitches fit in between :)

I use scrap yarn to temporarily fasten the corners together and the centre. For the blanket I have part finished I am crocheting the squares together as it is heavily textured. The joining system depends on the look you want.

I have done very little in the past week or so .... too hot. I have physio on my ankles and knees tomorrow so am hoping for a miracle but expecting a lot of work to be needed (by me!)

Slight diversity ..but I for one am still doing poppies and attaching to memorials as I go along ... thought this may interest some. :)

I may (or may not) meet up with @Puddleduck in September at Riverside but if she doesn't want them they are going begging :(.

Thanks Judith. I wouldn't mind them for monuments if Helen doesn't but I think she DOES .. hopefully she will see this . X

@Puddleduck @Janine I think Janine wants them too ??

I probably have enough already.

When we have spares, we put safety pins on the back and give them to the RBL poppy sellers to sell.

Sorry not been on the forum last night.

@jumartoo I don't think our meet is going to happen :( Martin's brother has decided that we are ALL the UK family is going to Harrogate flower show and we will go down to Dover from there ...... I am not happy about having this sort of decision made for me. Family dinner with me sitting with a empty plate as nothing safe for coeliacs :( (again).

How big is the flag @movan ? I'm sure I could do a bit.

View attachment 240929 Alice @Chrysalis and Pamela @snailtrailer just couldn't leave home without their sewing machines.
One of the criteria for our van was that it needed to be suitable for my machine :)

The second wedding quilt is now pieced top and bottom. Today will piece the batting (it's not quite wide enough but too long so I'll chop a bit off and attach to square it up) and maybe start on the sandwiching. I also need to check for backing fabric for the memorial as it's time I started to create rather than plan :)

I've also had another lovely parcel of poppies, I think from @Ven . Thank you.

They were from me, I thought I put a note in but probably forgot knowing me :)

It might be lurking amidst the poppies :)

Also thanks to @The Happy Hooker for the poppies that came today (and the book which you were welcome to keep until we see you again)

Out of curiosity what are these stows/blank stones?
Great job the girls are doing with the poppies
