Learn to crochet?

Hello all... at the garden centre yesterday .. before spending another lovely day with @SueTayBon ..I saw these posters and thought some of you may be interested ... either to do or organise.

It was £35 for the afternoon session. Everything was provided .. inc cuppa .. and you take your end result home with you .. it is mosaic tiles. I thought what a lovely present one of the sessions would be.

Ha ha ha .... can't believe this .... This week everybody seems to live near there at some point in their lives ...... :) WHY did we all never bump into each other when we were there? :)

When we lived in Maghull we used to take the caravan to Abbey Farm Caravan Site at Burscough. I would stay there with the kids in the holidays while Alan worked :D2

:(

.... pride before a fall ...

Feeling quite cocky as finished the back of the cardi with just few little hic ups .. then done one of the small sleeves ... really cocked up the casting off bits.

I can do cast one stitch off at each end of each row .. realised from the videos that I do it via the second stitch in either way ..... but then it got to where I had to decrease by TWO stitches (then THREE) .. and I guessed that again I had to do it via the second stitch in, then third, etc ... but it hasn't worked ... I guess I was supposed to have reverted back to just doing normal cast off stitches ... knit 1 knit another and pass first stitch over .. repeat etc.? Is that right?

Hoping that when I stitch the pieces together I can 'bluff' it. :)

It was near Burscough but I thought it might be an idea other 'crafters' might take up. I know some of our Morning Funsters do mosaic work. :)
Didn’t Andrea @big map start a kit?
And @Jenben did a lovely bird one!
Loving the wreath one!

HELP .... HELP

@Riverbankannie and Everyone ... @snailtrailer

Right I have knitted the parts ... 2 little sleeves, back, two fronts .... Some mistakes and a lot of learning (mainly in the different ways of casting of/decreasing and the end results for them ...

BUT NOW oh boy ... I can't believe I used to knit when I was young.

I have to pick up stitches from the back of the neck and down the front of each front and then knit moss stitch on them to make the border.

The panic bit is picking up the stitches ... I have watched videos but none seem really
to explain how to not make it look amateurish.

Ant tips would be appreciated ..

Just try and even out the stitches you need to pick up, sort of one from each row. I didn’t do it very well but worked out ok. It was my sewing up that looked bad as with the multi colour wool, the bit I had to sew up with was a different colour to the knitted bit.

Not the easiest part Joy @movan, even for experienced knitters like me. Where the instructions say 'pick up 45 sts. along front' I measure that part to see how many picked up stitches I should get in an inch and just jab the knitting needle in. I pull mine out several times before achieving the required stitches and then sometimes cheat if it looks even. Just make sure you have the required odd or even number of stitches at the end so your moss stitch works out. Good Luck

Well ... there's cocked up and there's cocked up!!!!! And I have covked up.. :(

I think I have done it in t.. no 3 places . A) decreasing stitches at the end of a row.

B) sewing up the pieces

C) picking up stitches to make the border.

Oh and D) increasing stitches when picking up because I hadn't got enough .. I think I increased a stitch in wrong way .

Devided NO WAY am I undoing as this will have to be my learning curve .. and litgle Eden will think I'm amazing anyway.

Here is a picture of the front right section. Notice the amazing diagonal pattern (the moss stitch border is still on the needle ) Well ... there isn't supposed to be a pattern .. it is supposed to be plain.. :(

I did it according to the you tube video .. I thought. I just am not cut out for this. :(

Oh ..PS

I have to now remember HOW I made the mistakes or the other side front won't match. :(

It will look lovely anyway, Joy. I'm sure you will work out how to replicate your c*ck up.

She will be happy with just a couple Helen x

I gave them to @old-mo to pass on when he sees you.

Thank you for the poppies received from Old-Mo - sorry but I don't know who they are from :(

@movan Now when I cast on I put the needle between the stitches rather than through the stitch and can then start knitting rib straight away.

I do that as well as I prefer the look and think it is harder wearing.

@movan I think your little cardi is amazing and will be loved and loved and loved. Only you will ever notice the mistakes, everyone else will only notice the love that went into making it.

Oh yes ! I didn't tell you about the darning needle  Wool is so forgiving, whether in crochet or knitting. I think your knitting is lovely and you've worked incredibly hard. Little Eden won't want to take it off.
