leaky loo, found out the cause ?

Honestly, I don't think there's anything much better than the kindness of strangers in life.

It's not done through any obligation, it's not done with any expectation, it's just pure goodness in its essential form.

A big part of the motorbiking world, and it seems to be alive and well in the MoHo world too. Heartwarming.

He's after her money! 😄

What makes you think it's not the other way round! :xlaugh:

I'm sure it's all honourable and above board. I'm a great believer in human nature.

I've been on the receiving end of great kindness and like to think I've spread a little of my own along the way.

What's life for otherwise?

AHHHH. Well that might be the reason, then, as was only testing this on battery on stationery, noengine on. as I presumed it worked off the leisure battery, NOT cab battery, Silly Me ! Thank you for that, I will let you know what happens, when I start the van in the morning.
Do a Prayer for me, that all will be ok, and that I am SAFE in my van, as sadly went on some youtubing, where ppl, had been broken into ,whilst they were asleep! OMG sending shivers down my spine. So slightly scared, but wont admit it to my family, as they were all against me getting a motorhome
we have just bought window and door alarms very cheap from ebay easy to fit self adhesive

Good old well not sooo old, Tombola to the rescue!!! My leisure battery stopped whilst he arrived! Can't believe it! Sorted out gas n now my battery,!!!@ omg! A complete lovely nice stranger to help me.
Looks like my invertor turned on all day has now flatted out my leisure battery.
So now I've got to drive for an hr and change spots, which John has now kindly shown me where to go for a night. A better place! I'm in awe of this knowledgeable kind man!
N he doesn't have a brother either haha

Pressure n pleasure if off GRIDDING

What are you using the inverter to power ?

I don't know Tombola well enough to make any such accusation!

Stranger is one thing, strange is another.

That reminds me of a former work colleague who was trying to get his kids out of a toy store shortly after they'd been told about 'stranger danger' at school.

They wanted to stay, so simply called out their dad as being a 'stranger' which prompted a swift and decisive intervention from the security team....

It also prompted a fairly swift retribution from dad once the whole thing was eventually cleared up :D

It's a learning curve, and you've got a whole forum full of people to support you.

Kudos to Tombola for stepping up in person though. The Funster spirit is alive and well.
Definitely I totally agree! I'm still in Awe of his quickness n keen ness to help so willingly to a total stranger!

It'll be some good detective work if he actually finds you 🤣
He found me with absolute no problem! Amazing, parked right at back of me. With tool kit in hand. Amazing guy! He wouldn't take a cuppa cake biscuit or something money for petrol n his time either. He's a star just fallen from the foggy skies

What are you using the inverter to power ?
Ii was on all the time to charge all the usb objects n phone! I didn't realise that having it switched ON! ALSO MEANT IT WAS DRAINING MY LEISURE BATTERY! NUMPTY! SO ITS NOW SWITCHED OFF N THE Angel in Dusguise gave me a USB plug to do that from my USB only port fir TV what A STAR

I think its really unfair to call Tombola strange and i hope the gas didnt run before he got his brew:giggle:
My Night in Shining armour didn't take tea coffee nothing. He was busy sorting out this Dansel in Distress.
He even took me to another parkup, so my van got some more charge in it. Stayed in his girgeous motorhome fir a couple of hrs to make sure I was OK?
So I'm blessed. N very happy.
Enriute in morning to Lake Windermere, thst will charge my van up then haha

Going into strangers vans
Putting your reg number on an open forum
Broadcasting your a single female solo traveller
Being taken to a remote area
If funsters had dirty minds .......... :xrofl:

Which of course none do ......:xwink:

If your vans internal lighting is old fashioned halogen type bulbs then when you get back from your trip consider swapping the bulbs for led.
Old fashioned bulbs will be 5 or 10 watt each where as leds will be 1 watt and as bright if not brighter.
My old bulbs were 10 watt each and I have 11 internal lights which I swapped for 1 watt leds.
So 10 led lights use the same power as one of my old ones.
They are brighter than my originals and use a tenth of the power.
It's a more economical way of using electric rather than using your leisure battery to charge the battery in a USB light.

sweet caroline have you checked the weather forecast for the lakes? I've just seen that the A66 is closed in that area to high-sided and 'vulnerable' vehicles, which includes motorhomes, due to very high winds. Please take care on your trip.

The weather is looking very grim north of Manchester for a few days.
Unless you're on a campsite, I'd think hard about going to Cumbria, especially if your leisure battery is less than completely reliable.

Ahh thanks Jock! Haha I thought his van was an Avater?
sweet caroline I've said nothing because I have no relevant information to offer that's not been offered by somebody else first but I've so much enjoyed reading all your quetions & exploits and just wanted to add that you are a joy and an inspiration and it's a great delight to see you in the membership.
Happy campering!

First things first cracking person and great homely van. CAROLINE, lovely to meet you.

The issues are just the general things we have all mostly experienced. But if anyone can answer any of the questions below, im sure it will help Caroline in future , when she has things done she can refer back to this.

I was surprised to see the Leisure battery stuffed away hiding in the footwell next to the cab battey with little to no access. Normal ????
Gas is a twin gaslow system with an auto changer over valve, on 2 x 8.2kg cans, when i manually turned it, it seemed stiif, is that normal on a gaslow, my gasit is quite loose.
Also, i didnt see a press sensor button to get the gas going again when turned off on any of the lines, i dont know if there should be one. (The usual grey press once button) again i do t know if they are supposed to have, doubtful so is ok ?.

Can anyone guess the ah of this platinum leisure battery (see pic), citroen base, bentley motorhome, it is sat next to the engine battery under the footwell. ? Can quite make it out, id guess 80-100ah, the platinum one on a bentley mh, citroen base vehicle. Are they all sat there ? Bit of a pain to get at and take voltages. Looks like the ngine battery (the one with all the fuses connected Caroline) has to come out to get at the leisure battery.

I took the readings from the 25mm cables leading to the 1000w inverter under the bench seat.

Caroline had done 2 nights and battery voltage was reading 12.5 on the meter and panel. The 1000w inverter was constantly on though, and we have switched this off, we have also 7nplugged a 230v 3 oin plug with usbs that was charging phone (12v to 230v to 12v) and added a cigarette style like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/FLOVEME-Charger-Adaptor-Cigarette-Charging-Black/dp/B08W1SMJ9L?tag=mhf04-21 into the 12v tv socket so im thinking she shouldnt have any problem getting another night or 2 especially after the drive tomorrow. Your reading then should be 12.8 after they have settled.

When the engine fired up the leisure reading went to 13.4 and the control panel showed 12 amps added in about 10-15 minutes to the leisure ? I dont know how accurate this is. But for Carolines calculations if itvwas +12 amps (on the control panel if you rememeber)then this represents 20 25%% of your usable capacity of your lead acid battery. (Lead acid batteries can only use half the rated capacity)so is a fair chunk for you.

There also seems to be another small inverter under the passenger seat with a switch on it which caroline was told to turn on, the switch does say "230" dunno what this powers. CAROLINE...Maybe this was factory fit and the 1000w bench seat one added later. Maybe try switching this off and see what doesnt work??? Or do you know already maybe? As that will also draw power (only a small.amount as it looks tiny) .

And there are also electrical gubbins, boxes under the drivers seat ?does anyone know what these may be maybe. B2b (doubtful)? Split charge system...? Dunno, hard so see.

There is 1 solar panel (guessing 80-100w) but we know this will do bare minimum, but it was clear today but trees.

Caroline you are a low power user, so as we spoke about, if you keep an eye on the levels and above 12v on the control panel you are ok. (12v low 12.8v full) Also as we mentioned, taking a reading from there when power is being used will always show lower. Youll get a true reading when no power has been drawn for half hour or so.

I was also thinking about when you said the control panel went off...did it actually cut any power? Or maybe its a normal thing to "dim" off after x amount of seconds??? Someone here maybe able to advise.

Oh and btw, top driver reversing into that tight space next to me in the dark.

All in all you will be fine and know your usage after this trip, and although some say not recommended, if a quick 15 minute engine run means you can add 12amps and truma heating then thats no biggie till you find your feet.
Your great and positive attitude will get you out of most scrapes, I've no doubts whatsoever.

I made the kick off time btw at Spike island ;).

The battery size is probably 100 or 110ah.

I think you had a typo on the gas bottles you said 8.2kg surely they will be either 6.5 or 11kg.
I thought they same. Stamped on was 8.2...gross maybe ? But they looked big for 6kg. Almost as big as my 11k

Are gaslow 6kg bigger than normal 6kg calor ?
I have 6kg in my other small van that are "tiddlers"

Caroline had used probably 25% of one cylinder
