Well our new motorhome has arrived at dealers on schedule and we went to give it the once over today - even though it was raining cats and dogs!! The excitement of going was immense and yes it was a large spend but you Cant take it with you!! If we hadn’t ordered at the show in Feb we would have been looking at an additional £14k now!! Looking forward to delivery hopefully 28 October - subject to DVLA and the registration process. Must say the build quality of the Elddis looks to be excellent with no obvious problems at first inspection. See how the hand over goes and how well we make the switch from caravan to Motorhome. Hopefully we will have some fantastic times and it will be money well spent.
Carthago UK dealer suggesting it might be offered at the NEC?You missed the boat at Caravan Salon most German manufacturers were doing garranted price if you ordered at the show. We found the price increases offset by the higher trade in, S/H prices seem to have gone up more than new which helps a lot.
Still had to pay well over 100k for smallest Carthago.
We find it very difficult to spend even though we could, sounds daft I know but having had to scrimp and save for many years when we first got married with the high mortgage interest rates, not spending comes as second nature now so splashing the cash for the sake of it is hard.
I said to hubby just yesterday that I want another electric grill, the George Foreman type we have at present is ideal for 2 people but it doesn't have removable plates so cleaning it takes ages as I can't jut stick the plates in a bowl to soak, having had to clean it 3 times this week the 'novelty' has worn off and some of the non-stick coating is starting to wear (we've had it a while!), so I'm now on the hunt for one to splash the cash on ... unless of course I see one at a car boot sale in the meantime!
When you break down in syria you've something to tradeIf it's rubbish that people buy for one upmanship what tell o wise one is the function of a Rolex over an argos watch?
You left out " but in many areas it is only worn with a bullet proof vest worn over an anti stab vest otherwise you won't be going home ".A Rolex is a piece of jewelry a marvel of engineering and an investment all rolled into one, oh it tells the time as well,
Yes I did. Every 9 months I used to change the car on average but it didn't cost anything & the ridiculous part was that in some cases due to working 12+ hrs a day ,7 days a week I might only drive it once. whereas the wife drove it all the time.On the buying new cars for the sake of it
If you get the date changed to November you'll save road tax!Well our new motorhome has arrived at dealers on schedule and we went to give it the once over today - even though it was raining cats and dogs!! That’s why I don’t have one too recognisable. When you break down in syria you've something to trade

The racing driver Jackie Stewart did. He had the sleeve on his tailor-made shirts shorter on his watch-wearing arm for just that purpose .If you have a 'posh watch' do you have to specify short sleeves on your clothing?
It's one upmanship. Car sales have relied on it for years a lot like a shiny new car to show off to the neighbours even if the old one is really reliable and low mileage. It's the same with clothes jewellery more or less everything.
Without it our economy would collapse!
Well if that’s the case tell me why when we replaced our car at 3 years old for a new car exact same model spec and colour I had our number we have had for years put on the car before it left the dealers, ?It's one upmanship. It does make me wonder what a sad life some people must live Worrying about what others spend or have got?Well if that’s the case tell me why when we replaced our car at 3 years old for a new car exact same model spec and colour I had our number we have had for years put on the car before it left the dealers, ?
It was to stop narrow minded people judging me for having a new car when our old one was working fine.
just as well some people want to get on and have some of the finer things in life it’s called drive and ambition and if I didn’t have any I would still be delivering newspapers in Sunderland
Some people start at the bottom and like it!It does make me wonder what a sad life some people must live Worrying about what others spend or have got?
Don’t know if it’s just me but I like to see people with nice cars or vans chances are they have worked for them and enjoying life.
At the same time as long as everyone is enjoying life good luck to them whatever they have…
I was in that clubI change my car every 18-24 months because I like a change and after working up to 100 hours a week since I left school at 15 and running a firm employing a lot of people, don’t give a flying what people think of me as I buy what I want.
Had a few tell me how lucky I am having a nice car and house, funny that I say the harder I work the luckier I get!!
It’s quite nice down here on the bottom, not too far to fall! Some people start at the bottom and like it!
There have been plenty of guys I have worked with who spend eye watering amounts of money on watches and are quite proud to show them off, one guy asked me why I ‘only’ had a cheap watch. I asked what function his watch performed…..to tell the time he answered, I spent the next 5 mins explaining all the functions my GPS watch did along with being able to tell the time and pointing out that Rolex is a non for profit and a charity. When you break down in syria you've something to trade

One thing i certainly won't be doing for the foreseeable future is changing our car.... certainly not until they sort out which way we are going with Electric Vehicles (and infrastructure to support them) or whether some other type comes about like Hydrogen. i can see a lot of folk coming unstuck jumping in too soon.We like buying new Motorhomes we could never afford luxuries like this when we were younger so it's nice to have a nice new one but we do use it. We do 8-10 k miles a year and 120 + nights away in it.
The car though was bought new but its over 10 years old, might change it in 5 years time. It only gets used for shopping trips and the amount we have saved on not changing cars helps in a big way to funding the Motorhome.
Just makes you wonder what's the point of trying to save, thinking back 52 years we bought a house for £1250 in East Anglian town !! Savings go down in value Motorhomes go up, funny old worldThe equivilant of my Hymer new is a whisker under £100k in basic form and thats at the low end of their range

Same here, we bought ours from the showroom at Southdowns Hymer BMCT 600 Whiteline, last October, 1 year old now. I think it was £87K, we added extras we wanted that were retrofitted and the final cost was £93K, last I checked a month or so ago a new one same spec but factory fitted would be around £103K. We had intended in buying this year, but the sale person persuaded us prices were going up and as they had the model we wanted with a few retrofits it would be better to buy them. Glad we did, going back now and ordering would have been a bitter pill to swallow and waiting time are high I hear. So, I guess we are lucky, had a great years first use out of it too.Just priced ours up from this year’s brochure…..having ordered ours in January 2020, couple of months before lockdown, taking delivery in September 2020.
Including all the extras we had at 2020 prices, as I have no idea how much it would cost now, the same van would be £15k to £18k more, but that was from the 2022 brochure. Looking at Sunlight dealers, none are showing prices for 2023 / 2024 it’s all POA.
We would definitely have been priced out of the new market, and having looked at numerous Used ones (allegedly immaculate) we’d have given up the idea of owning one.
Well if rich people stopped buying new Motor Homes there wouldn't be any "cheap" second hand ones for the rest of us mere mortals. We were in Stafford and went to the Hymer place....WOW a 6 mtr PVC £106k ..nothing below £68k What kind of people are buying these at those prices ?Made me feel like a peasant!!
I don’t want the cheapest thing that does the job. I want the thing that gives me the facilities I need and enjoy along with the comfort and convenience I want. I will admit to a little satisfaction at having some nicer (and/or more expensive) things than I actually need but posing and grandstanding are not in my rationale at all.I'm not saying there's anything wrong with choices but that people don't often buy the cheapest thing that does the job.
Can be done abroadPffft! I would be there like a shot were it not for having to find the money to pay for the extortionate £230 annual cost for the hab checks.
