Just priced to update our motorhome 👀

The dealer I bought mine of 5 years ago offered to buy it back for the same money no trade in just a straight buy

You missed the boat at Caravan Salon most German manufacturers were doing garranted price if you ordered at the show.

Not to a couple of buyers I spoke too. One in particular was buying from Knaus and had a signed an order with no guaranteed price. He's agreed to buy at the retail price the van leaves the factory next April, when he baulked they said take it or leave it, he took it.

Carthago & Malibu (same company I know) were doing it and when I spoke to our Hymer dealer he said Carthago are doing it so Hymer will but you had to ask.

What did they offer for your 678 in px then Lenny?

I know some were offering a guaranteed price, I think it was +7.5% at the next and subsequent increase and some vans were on more than two years lead time;)

Don't you think its quite sad that motorhome manufacturers have lost their individuality nowadays. You can walk into so many and it almost be the same van. Island at the end, shower on the left or right, toilet the same, right in the middle of the van, they say its so your guests don't disturb you if they use either in the night, what a load of bull. By the time they have managed to get out of the overcab, stumped their toe on the table, found the handle for the door, squeezed in, sat down and done their bit for Britain, flushed it too long so the pump is running on, NOT DISTURBED MY ASS.

Buying in the UK for the first time, hardly any advantage importing at the moment.

Did you manage to order a LHD Lenny, or are you going to have to drive on the 'proper' side? ::bigsmile:

Had my van valued yesterday by dealer, it’s cost me with the recent extras £32,000 and he offered £42,000 cash, not part ex. They are still desperate for 2nd hand stock. He admitted he could get £53,000 retail.
My van is a slightly less than professional conversion but definitely not a self build. If it wasn’t for that fact that I love the freedom a PVC gives us and could not justify spending £80,000 to £100,000 to replace it I would have snapped his hand off.
Strange times🙀

So all the people that have motorhomes worth 2, 3 or even 4 times the price of ours, do you get 2,3 or 4 times the fun out of it do you think ?
But they probably also reach the same destination in their car in a similar time as I do and a lot spend way more than our cars worth. It's what people do one upmanship. Maybe they have small willies!

No, but some peopl work like that. I gues if you have th money and nothing better to do with it.

I have a friend who changes his perfectly good, low mileage, 'boring, run of the mill car' every 2 or 3 years for no reason I can fathom. Must lose thousands everytime.
I have an elderly neighbour , saw him in a brand new vw golf. Had a chat with him said he changed it because it needed service and four new tyres. Bonkers.

Not sure about one upmanship. But I question whether the greater outlay gives a corresponding greater reward in the experience.

For instance our motorhome is the Flash 10 model, but we could have got a Welcome Flash 10 model which gave (for £3000 extra) as far as I could see, not much more than some fancy plastic trims around the inside of the windows. No thanks, I'll spend the extra £3000 on going places and using the MH.

Like the £1,000,000 motorhomes. Yeah fantastic, but very limiting in where you can go in them.

It's one upmanship. Car sales have relied on it for years a lot like a shiny new car to show off to the neighbours even if the old one is really reliable and low mileage. It's the same with clothes jewellery more or less everything.
Without it our economy would collapse!

What rubbish people buy to suit their own requirements we have an A class simply because it’s roomier less draughty and lots of storage space we tow a small car on a trailer for long haul winters in Spain and base ourselves where it suits us and travel around very easily in our 4x4panda which is not then standing at home whilst away?
Everyone has choices and if they can afford them good luck to them they have probably worked hard to fund what they do and probably enjoy it just as much as anyone else 😊🤔

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with choices but that people don't often buy the cheapest thing that does the job.

Some don’t need to and may like a bit of extra padding on the seats or whatever I suppose if i were on a limited budget I would look at the basic models but it’s nice to have a choice?? and certainly not one upmanship as you suggest? I suppose you could be interpreted as being jealous with posting what you did but no one has said you are?🤔😊

We like buying new Motorhomes we could never afford luxuries like this when we were younger so it's nice to have a nice new one but we do use it. We do 8-10 k miles a year and 120 + nights away in it.

The car though was bought new but its over 10 years old, might change it in 5 years time. It only gets used for shopping trips and the amount we have saved on not changing cars helps in a big way to funding the Motorhome.

I've never been a buy new person (car wise) except once, which was an exception with my VX220 which I've had for 20 years now. I did get sucked in to buying new with the present Burstner 18 months ago and to be honest I regret it. Yes its nice having new but it doesn't stay new for long. It has 15000 miles on it now and a few marks and searches. I had a lot of issues to be dealt with under warranty and they took a lot of time, effort and pain.

I could have bought one a few years old with 3-5 K on it for £20K less and it would have been less hassle and probably feel just a 'new' now.

That's a massive assumption on your part.

People buy what they want within the constraints of what they can afford. Why do you think it has anything to do with one upmanship? Perhaps that says more about you than them?

If folk with expensive motorhomes made the same derogatory comments toward those with cheaper vehicles it would be viewed in a very dim light!

With such high second hand values at the moment it can actually work out quite a good time to change, it did for us.
Swapping a 4 - 6 year old van for new works well.
I'm in agreement with that. Our LHD Challenger Vany which we bought ex-rental from Germany in December 2018 has rocketed in price. It was Euro 36,000 at the time. Have spotted 2 on Mobile.de recently, one at same dealer, we got ours from, exact same spec. same deal, mileage, year etc. Euro 49,999, an eye watering 38% increase. And they are shifting them at that price. We are 'looking' at for new vehicles the moment and will go up to Birmingham to try and see if anything fits our spec. Globecar Summit 640 is a contender, having seen one in Germany in the summer at a dealer. I'd prefer LHD (UK dealers doing LHD, anyone?) but as Lenny HD has pointed out, importing is becoming less economical and more complex/stressful.

If it's rubbish that people buy for one upmanship what tell o wise one is the function of a Rolex over an argos watch?

Why would someone want the cheapest unless they have to?

A Rolex is a piece of jewelry a marvel of engineering and an investment all rolled into one, oh it tells the time as well, some might say that the argos watch is these things as well but not in my book and I don't even like Rolex ;)

I've ordered a LHD Carthago from a UK dealer.
Interesting. I might be having a look at Malibu PVCs as well. At some stage if you are happy to share the dealer details I'd be interested. Fully understand if you can't at moment. I had a quick chat with a dealer recently who said that LHD for UK had pretty much dried up. But then some dealers economical with facts at times.

Exactly my point. People don't buy just for function. A lot like a bit of bling often because they like to flash.

Is that due to discounts available or the exchange rate or both?

No need to be sarcastic? unfortunately I do not know as I have never owned a Rolex 🙄
Maybe it was your answer starting with " what rubbish"!!!!!
