John’s cross

It's a paradox that, at a time when motorhome sales are booming, a few dealers like St J C with excellent customer feedback have gone bust. Meanwhile the scoundrels indifferent ones who don't seem to value their customers are still in business somehow.

It's hard to imagine that going the extra mile to help customers could be a recipe for failure. Surely not.

Morning guys…

Well yes sadly as apparent johns cross motorhomes has closed its doors officially.
I have been proud to be part of the team there since leaving my fathers business some nearly 4 years ago. They welcomed me in as did Peter and it was a pleasure to work with a team that were passionate about the industry as I have always.

I am not going to lie it was a complete shock to walk in after finally have my first weekend off as we were so busy to be faced by a gentlemen waiting to have a meeting with me under the instructions to look to close the business.

I would like to clarify that the business was not struggling and financially in debt far from it was simply a decision by our current director to fold and close due to personal circumstances. Such a shame for a thriving business in a fantastic market trading for over 25 years. As you can imagine a complete shock to all of us as staff.

My instructions was simply to hand over the keys and run through some paperwork and information required of me and then asked to leave. I was not allowed to contact existing customers and even answer the phone so if anyone has been trying to contact me I sincerely apologise it was not my decision as it was taken out of my hands.

As a positive note I am actually in the process of starting my own dealership within the near proximity of johns cross where of course we will be welcoming with open arms all my existing and new customers. So watch this space ☺️

I as I’m sure the whole of johns cross will like to thank our customers for the last years and your kind feedback and comments.

I knew Peter as a friend, few know but we moored across from each other at Town Quay in Poole with us both loving boats, and we both "knew" of each other before we became friends.

When the commuting for James backwards and forwards from the Brighton area to Taunton became too difficult it was Peter who told his General Manager to employ him as he knew James, his integrity, his honesty and his approach to customer care (the Van Bitz approach, bearing in mind that James started in this business when he was a few years old, sweeping up for me at the end of the day ;) )

James made a huge difference at Johns Cross and took up much of the slack, which sadly increased with Peters slow demise, I was in regular contact with Peter till the end

Peter will be turning in his grave that his beloved Johns Cross and been closed and the staff effectively escorted from the premises!

As long as Ian the mechanical genius and the very helpful Becca are around, I would definitely want to continue to use you. Your work was exemplary.

Please keep us informed as when we come back in September, I'm likely to have a list of stuff I want changed/fixed that is beyond my extremely limited DIY skills.

Best of luck with your venture.

Dave

Very sad, RIP Peter.

We bought both our vans there and visited umpteen times for work on the vans and the shop. Always recommended them and found them knowledgable and helpful.

Good luck in your new venture JimJams

Very best of luck to you James.

I sense that you have got what it takes to do well.

We used to say there are three things that you have to give customers in order to succeed:

1. Great service.

2. Great service.

3. Great service.

Best of luck with that James (y)

I miss my weekend outings to Robertsbridge because it was always an excuse to stop at the Route 66 café for a full English.

At a rough guess, I would say there are approx 800 Motor-homes in and around Weymouth & Dorchester... JimJams ....

And a very popular industrial estate with just a few unit`s left.. (Granby Industrial Estate. Weymouth.)

To my knowledge there is not a reasonable dealer or repair facility within a lot of miles... or a lot of travelling...

Please think about relocating to Dorset.....

I will even sweep your yard for "Free".... Once a week.....:nod::nod::giggler:

Good luck James... (y)

JimJams

We need the knowledge, great customer service and integrity that we got from JC, I'm sure that will the same in your new venture. All the best matey.

PS. Please ignore old-mo we need you nearer Maidstone as my local one Kent Motorhome Centre has also recently closed. I will even sweep the yard TWICE a week for free.

Sadly we all know what happens next with land that has direct road access.......residential planning application...... £££££'s
Nice quiet location with excellent views of an extremely busy roundabout :giggle:. Liable to spontaneously combust!!

That’s great news James
Hope you manage to get your new business off the ground

I suggested James Cross Motorhomes but James didn't like that idea! I think we should vote ;)

After all he was rather "cross" that they shut the business on a whim!
Watch out James your Old Man is trying to stick his nose into YOUR business. :gum:

No there is a covenant against the premises and the school next door that they are not aloud to build houses as replacements dwellings. The school tried when it closed a few years back and the council wouldn’t allow it so it’s gone back to being a school again.
And to add there is another business onsite and trust me he has invested a considerable amount of money into it and will not move for sure..
