Lots now
As some of you know we are hopefully getting our new motorhome in early December so we have removed all of our personal items from our current one and being the honest and reputable persons we took our motorhome to our man in oldham to see if he could sort out the warning lights on the dash which are, brake warning on the handbrake and lane assist camera not receiving information.

Unfortunately they couldn't do anything so it went to Northern commercials in manchester.
£3500 quote to sort out the issues.
Yes £3500 ouch.
We can't trade ours in with its current condition so we have given the go ahead and will be on beans on toast without the beans for the foreseeable future 🤣🤣.
Don't you just love modern vehicles.

That’s a lumpy old bill guys! 😱

Was it just the two issues, handbrake and land departure; or did you get other work completed too?

The main thing is, you’re ready for the new one now! 👍🏻

£72.50 for Pumping your Tyres Up ??????
I wouldn't really comment but as the bill is there. £6000 for nothing important at all really, you can check your tyres like we all do, no need for a reversing camera if you have mirrors, don't know what the handbrake stuff is but apparently it was working ok just not putting a light off.
It makes my new gearbox and clutch in France look a real bargain at 4 grand.

It's nothing to do with reversing camera though, the camera is part of the LDWS, lane departure warning system and as such would be showing warning lights on the dashboard if the system wasn't working, likewise the handbrake isn't as simple as "it works OK it's just a light" the handbrake is electronic and if it not working correctly again will throw up a fault light, as the OP is trading in the vehicle for a new one they could either get it fixed or take a big hit on trade in, they chose to get it fixed so really it just constitutes part of the overall cost to change.

I thought it was only Mercedes commercial dealers who knew how to charge like that !
No IVECO do as well ;) we had a main dealer service earlier this year as there were ECU updates to do and the previous year had been quite reasonable with them, the service manager came at the end and asked if I had been given a price before, he looked a bit sheepish and gave me a price at which I gasped a little and explained how reasonable it was the year before, he said he would go and see what he could do, well he did knock a few hundred £ off but I will still be going independent next time, the trouble is though there are so many complicated bits now that need a computer or reset tool that it make it difficult for the independent guys to do the jobs.

Agreed. I do love the ease of driving new vehicles, but they are now so complex, I am not sure anyone really understands them, if the computer can`t diagnose what the actual problem is.
It got to me so much I recently went out and bought a 2004 Merc 270d estate, which we could use when a van goes down.
Its done 15,000 trouble free miles in 8 months, and now all the lads would rather drive that, than there vans.
I do obviously have to pay the ULEZ, but as it always works, I am happy to pay

Get yourself a dongle and MaxiECU Iveco software. Easy enough to use (I’m able, so anyone can!) and you can do much of what you’d pay the dealer to do from a diagnostics perspective! 👍🏻

Thanks (y) the updates we needed were UCU patches so would not be available DIY but I get your drift, the other issues is the MaxiECU software goes 2014-2020 so I don't think it covers ours as it is the first of the 2020 facelift, and then it's windows based and I am all apple  we do have quite a good independent commercial garage so will see how he gets on next time I need something.

And then 2 new wheel nuts at 30 quid a pop, where is it going to end?

Have we been told how old this vehicle is. Presumably it must be pretty new to have all this gubbins on it. Is there no sort of a guarantee?

When you break it down £2500 for parts and £1k VAT it doesn’t sound that terrible,
Some people are not technically minded to pump up tyres so have to pay a qualified fitter, wether he is checking tyre pressures or replacing a diff,
Incidentally it is not a straightforward 5 minute job to check the rear tyre pressure on Iveco rear wheels with those fancy hubcaps.

TWENTY FOUR hours labour to do the brakes? 😳😳😳😳😳😳

Ian
Don't know how you work that out £2627.5 is the total labour, they are most likely close to £200 per hour but even at £180 that would be 15 hours total labour.

Still less than a solicitor/Barrister charges with very few tools maybe a pen, same old if you haven’t got the skills or equipment needed you have to pay someone who has.

The labour for the brakes is shown as £1740 and, rightly or wrongly, I assumed that the hourly rate was £72.50 (based on the first line of the invoice) which gives exactly 24 hrs.

If that first line entry represents only 0.5 hrs then that brings it down to 12 hrs - still seems a lot though.

Our local Iveco dealer in Peterborough £140 an hour plus a Motorhome/Horsebox subsidy ☹️

The thing is it's a main dealer so they have all the gear and computer to plug into etc, the "coin charge" at £110 is to plug into the mainframe in Italy for software updates and most likely to programme the new camera. the downside of it being a main dealer is that they just chuck new parts at it, new hubs just because they had to pull them off to change discs possibly, no judgement whether to refit just chuck new ones on so the customer has no comeback.

I can’t see myself buying any more new cars as a result of this.

Just imagine the bills when the cars get more complicated again with driverless technology.

I have already got rid of a VW golf where the whole dash/infotainment system had to be replaced under warranty for parts costing £1k!
