It's stormy in Spain.

Anyone thinking of not travelling to Spain?

Does it 'feel right' holidaying when the country has suffered such a disaster?

I planned to go in about 3 weeks - having second thoughts......
I would say, rethink your route so you do not cause any additional problems in the affected areas, but the last thing that other spanish areas probably need is a massive slump in winter tourism to add to the misery.

Another matter.perhaps its been shown on UK media, that 15,000 members of the general public turned out today in Valencia to help with the clean up...❤️🇪🇦
Of all the thousands of videos online, none seem to show much organised aid from the authorities ?
Five days on, have the army showed up yet with heavy lifting gear, food and fresh water ?

If I do go it will be via Barcelona (y)

As usual though I decide just a week or so before and always book ferries one way......

Yes the Army, Specialist search and rescue corps from the Fire service..Guardia Civil underwater teams, Search dogs, Protection civil. Red cross are currently in attendance with back ups from other regions mobilised....what's needed is a central command point....but phone signals are disrupted..much of the heavy lifting gear and movers would have been in storage and need to be prepared...this isn't a quick get in, get it sorted and get out..this remains a very protracted incident...
What we see and what I've experienced in a situation like this is not medical assistance, like you would expect in an earthquake or Fire situation...this is very much a recovery situation...people have been overcome by water... unfortunately where they have taken refuge has been submerged for many hours, or days...❤️🇪🇦

The storms rage on..we are on orange Alert again...
Who asked if the donated food and water was being disturbed, well what I've seen and heard, then yes....there are tons of it...a short video from yesterday is below if you can view it..When needs must...Spanish people have their hearts in the right place..
Their actions have been very touching indeed...

I'm due to go down to Moncofa next month, I'm uncertain if I should go and support the local economy or should I cancel?

Here in la marina south of Alicante have noticed a lot of empty shelves in Mercadona and consum. No mince and hardly any chicken or eggs. Don't know if it's a distribution problem or panic buying. What's it like further south jumar gus-lopez ?

I’ve just read an article in a local online newspaper and whilst I was a bit sceptical about the authors intentions it did quote something like 60% of the income along the costas is driven by foreign tourists ex pats, who amount in some places to almost all the local population, if my memory serves me right from reading it 😜 So they will need the money.

I went with our Cat charity leader to Mercadona yesterday to buy some cat and dog food items and water to send to Valencia. We emptied the shelf of tinned cat food! but walking through the rest of the shop everything was fully stocked.

Just received an alert on the phone.
Our mobility is restricted here in Tarragona, from this midnight till tomorrow 12h because of "torrential persistent rain".
Right now, I don't know if we are living in a state of psychosis or what.
In any case, we are staying home tomorrow, following the recommendations.
Better be safe than sorry.

Keep safe

Flood alerts have just sounded on our phones, we are on the third floor of our block....for those on the Mazarron coast should be aware for the remainder of today...

We've just had a second alert here, giving some specific areas. The nearby urbanisation and the rambla near the campsite in Bolnuevo.

crikey!
on the 3rd floor you won’t get flooded but might lose leccy and water I suppose is possible but fingers crossed it won’t come to that..
have you got some drinking water there just in case?

Well the sun's out here now. Some idiot parked a car in the rambla down in Mazarron. Guess what??? It got flooded. Just how do you get sense into the heads of some people?

It's as good as cleared out now near us.... however the Ramblas will continue to flow for a while yet...
Preparing for a trip away starting tomorrow...we aren't crazy or irresponsible, exactly the opposite...but Spain being as vast as it is, there are regions that have missed the problems totally....that's where we are heading...2/3 hour drive will see us 20°c and dry....nice weather for biking...🇪🇦🇪🇺🚴🚴

Seems to me Authorities were slow to react, but we only have UK news journalists to rely on and Spanish interviewed residents

Whilst I can get the gist of it I find it annoying that all are not in Castellano?
gus-lopez are you okay where you are?

please keep safe all you out there..
Yes all good here.rain was only light & from around 9am until 1pm sun came out then for an hours or so.then heavy cloud & the sun then came back. Thank you for your concern Toni.

Yes I was watching that a short while ago. You do have to wonder about people?

Do I understand the purpose of "Ramblas" correctly?
They are built, just in case, of flood water... so parking in one just at the moment is the height of idiocy
Have I got that correct ?
Yes they are for taking the rain run off, dry 99.9% of the time.
