It's stormy in Spain.

Anyone thinking of not travelling to Spain?

Does it 'feel right' holidaying when the country has suffered such a disaster?

I planned to go in about 3 weeks - having second thoughts......
I don't blame you. With the country in such a state I wuld not want to go/be in the way in such a tragic event. South of Frans or Puglia would do for me.

Our current plan is to leave Portugal on Monday and head towards Malaga. We have a few area Autocaravannas picked out on route between Seville and Malaga; does anyone know if that area (see below pic) is badly affected? I don’t want to add to the problems by visiting if they are facing more important challenges right now!

Edit: just realised my red doodle is ever so slightly (unintentionally) phallic. 🤦‍♂️
Phallic - depends which end the body connects to? 😁

For those looking for a north south route avoiding Valencia look at the N330 between Turel and Almansa. It's a lovely road, a route we often use.
We are leaving la marina for home on Monday and that looks like a decent alternative route. But how do we find out if it's clear?

Google maps are generally fairly accurate...we travel only with a live version as our SatNav...

Started looking out a route home for us and found this site, unless anyone knows a better one 😉

The DGT site is "chapter and verse" and you won't go far wrong with their info on road closures etc. DGT - Dirección General de Tráfico - is the official Police motoring section.
Though, that said, use of Google maps for nav now includes the ability for you to flag up broken down vehicles, accidents, roadworks etc etc live as you are driving past them so that is now arguably more accurate in real time.
Many tools at our disposal these days...

everywhere needs a refreshing downpour every now and again to wash the cobwebs away..
you’re so lucky it rarely happens..

love a good storm with thunder and lightening as long as nobody injured..
Valencia did not need it, what a disaster, I feel so sorry for those people there.

When that was posted by dryad it was in response to our reports of what we had here, and long before the situation developed in Valencia. We were very happy with our amount of rain, it was just right to do some good.

The https://infocar.dgt.es/etraffic/ website is currently showing the N330 closed both south of Requena and north of Utiel due to flooding and closed between Utiel and Teruel due to a “fixed obstacle”. I’m hoping to return via that route myself a week on Monday.

Having trouble seeing dgt site clearly as only have phone. Google maps shows some closures and an alternative route. One of the roads on Google maps isn't even in my maps book so I wonder about the suitability for my van. Guess it's a changing situation and will have to make a last minute decision.
Just remembered laptop is in van will charge that tomorrow hopefully clearer on a bigger screen.

I often go via Madrid, from Los Alcazares just a bit south of you, then Burgos or across to Zaragoza and onward from either.
We go by a different route each time. The last two times the Madrid way ish and there are not so many Aires that way as towards Zaragoza. We may just have to stop somewhere we have been before.

I usually check the minor roads on Google Earth or the satellite view on Google maps. If I can see a white line in the middle of the road I’m happy.

This was the beach at Xeraco, 40 miles south of Valencia, this afternoon. Sobering to think that all this debris was swept out to sea by the tragic events there.

I've just been chatting on the phone to a good Firefighter friend from Cartagena Station....they are on standby to assist Valencia in a search and recovery operation....he told me that the number of missing persons known, could swell the numbers to an unimaginable figure...

It is a complete tragedy.

I have just seen the Telegraph reporting the authorities in Spain have indicated there are still almost 2,000 missing.

I think that the very fact yhat you have posted this shows that you care about their situation. There will be businesses facing ruin, and people wondering what will be happening to them in the immediate future. By going and spending your hard earned, you will be supporting them in my opinion simply by being there.

What concerns me is is this storm classed as a act of God, in Spain will they be able to claim on insurance? I hope they can

I normally travel to Spain to get to my small place in Majorca and took the ferry there 6 weeks ago from Valencia.

The devestation around there will take a lot of time to not just to clean up and repair but for the community to get over - if ever

At 79 I would be of no use and feel uncomfortable just being there.

I may still go but not to Valencia .
