Its not Motorhomes I dislike its the people contained within them.

Washing machine wars, I never would have thunk it! Do tell all?

Well .... You know how the coin meter allows more time than the washing machine programme? Well ... a couple of a certain nation were standing looking at the stopped machine (programme finished). There was a queue of bags and the person with the washing next in line was waiting to start his wash. He asked them to empty the machine but they refused 'cos they still had 15 minutes on the timer "that they'd paid for" and the next person would get their time!!!

Of course words were exchanged!

Can you believe it!!!

We stayed at Camping Cuevas Mar near Vera last week. We could not believe the huge number of motorhomers wild camping not only on the beaches but also on the streets around the beaches. Make no mistake, these were camping not just "parking " on public roads. It made us embarrassed to be motorhomers.

These people have been here for months and are proud they have stayed free. We are guests and should not abuse their country.

Yes . We have spoken to many this winter who are proud to have spent next to no money at all. It is like a badge of honour.

They leave all their Crap behind for our Council to dispose of at our expense. I didn't park up for days on end, just the occasional overnight, very rarely 2 or 3, somewhere nice and quiet away from the "population". Kept it clean and moved on, usually to a site. We saw Dozens of Motorhomes Parked along sea fronts and in car parks, obviously having been there for a long time!.

Some good posts here that sum up the whole problem.................we could do with a little less of the
But what if...............
It's only for..........
I don't do it............
They should provide...........
I spend lots of money..........

Sadly these people walk among us (they're definitely not young,or would have benefited from a clip round the ear (or more if they didn't listen)

Somehow we all know them and meet up with them and should make our feelings known

No "yes but, no but"........... as above.....................lets all draw the line

Ah but where is the line the "yes but, no but" ask. I think you know damn well where the line it is.

Before you start.................nothing against wild camping................it's what the quotes above refer to that make me angry.

I’m glad I didn’t do ours whilst there then! Decided to do it today at campsite. Instruction 1, open the door ...
Well I cannot, the German couple whose friends had used it earlier could not, reception could not but telephoned someone who was going to come to help,
Well I gave up waiting and saved my 5euro  (I’m sure it was less at Totana) and did it all by hand. Good job too as it happened as lots of dark colour came out of some clothing of John’s and would have ruined my new white camping knickers!

While we were waiting for parts to fix our fridge and Totana was full @gus-lopez suggested Aguilas as he said. We ended up on the carpark with three other vans.
We walked into town along the beach road where there would have been space to park upwards of a hundred vans and there wasn't a single one.
We found out why. These signs were dotted along the whole length at every entrance point. Check out the date, FLT's days are numbered I think. 3000€ fine.

It would be interesting if someone was staying at a campsite with a booking which could be confirmed in writing and yet chose to park, not camp, during the daytime. If fined they could then prove that they were not camping. Seems pretty draconian but if the place was being spoilt by motor homes camped for weeks on end with associated rubbish and waste then what else can the authorities do but ban it for the greater good or at least no rubbish and waste pollution

This thread is making me so sad,can we have just recently bought our first Motor home, have not taken it abroad as yet, so have not experienced staying on an Aire, or foreign campsite. I just hope that I can control my reaction when, and if, I come across this type or any inconsiderate behaviour. /QUOTE]

Les

I have posted elsewhere recently on this topic. I and my OH have been MHing for 9 years and mostly using wildcamping, Aires/Stellplatz etc. and have never seen inconsiderate behaviour.

I do not have experience of what happens in the South of the Iberian Peninsula in winter, but in general touring around France, Germany, England, Scotland, Poland and Slovakia I have not encountered this behaviour.

Forget it and enjoy your travels.

Geoff

The answer to all those questions above is simple.
Greed and corruption.
The council's want to spend the money on other things , maybe a sculpture on a roundabout or two ....more important than a toilet isn't it.
Council tax has risen but services have fallen continuously over the years.
But it really all starts at the top of the tree with the government and also the money squandered by the royals too.
We shouldn't be paying to refurbish Buckingham palace etc, that should be funded by the royals themselves.....there are loads of things but overall it comes down to misuse of funds that joe public gets little say in.
Have to disagree about Buck house though. This doesnt belong to the royal family unlike Balmoral which does so no reason why they should pay to preserve it for thenation. It would be like expecting the MPs to personally pay for the houses of parliament just because they work there.

@nicholsong I can assure you this behaviour does happen!

You've hit the nail on the head with your statement containing the words "touring around".

The people with the anti social behaviour aren't touring and have no interest or intention of doing so. They drive down directly to the coast from their home countries. They just want to sit in one place for the winter in the sun! Hence the influx, over the last few weeks, of the people who arrived here and caused the problems, they just wanted the sun (and the use (and abuse) of the facilities here) and here was the best weather. As soon as the weather improved they were off again to find somewhere else to "camp" until it's time to go home.

The President of the USA (Regardless of who it is) doesn't pay for the White House Either!.(y)

Were they Dutch by any chance?

We are in the Murcia area, we left Mojacar a couple of days ago and are at Aguilas now - off to Mazarron tomorrow

Where are you now?

According to a Facebook site these signs are going up all over Murcia! Haven't seen any yet but will keep a look out for them.

In my opinion, signs like this need to go up everywhere. UK and across Europe - and be enforced.

None of the rules are unreasonable and after a few of the entitled crowd get big fines and plaster it all over FB it would help solve the problem. Better this than the alternatives where vans are banned all together.

I see from reading through this thread that some of you have found out that there are nasty, horrid people around...

I reckon there are also lovely, wonderful people around too.

Then, of course, there are perfect people who never, ever do anything that annoys other folk or breaks any law. Some of these virtuous people have posted on this thread.

JJ

Missed the point again @JJ
It's never about people who accidently leave their waste open,or who make a noise late at night without realising etc etc
It's all about those people who do these things that annoy people or break laws (see posts above for clarification) and don't give a toss about other people or the consequences.
That's why many of us refer to them as "freeloading tossers" once again, once again it's got nothing to do with wild camping so nothing to defend.

We have been on a Cl once and that proper site we have been in the seven years we have had motorhomes, we go to dog shows most weekends and have 10 dogs with us, I think campsite managers would have a heart attack if we turned up, BUT, the difference is all dog poo at shows is picked up and disposed of responsibly,
53 REDCAR.JPG
we also fence off our pitch to ensure the dogs stay in our garden when they are outside. we pick up using poo bags which if tied up tightly do not emit any smell and can be put in a non recycling bin, there is no excuse for soiling other folks pitches or not picking up, perhaps is campsites asked people to leave the site the word would go round and it would help in changing peoples behavior. No doubt we would be refused entry at a rally weekend when we arrived with 10 dogs though !!! this was taken on a dog show venue where we stayed over after the show

Oh dear, I’ve read all these comments, coming from 25 years touring on motorcycles throughout Europe and Africa, I think I’ve made a bad decision on buying a Motorhome. It sounds like we’ll all be treated like the travelling community, “we don’t want you here” and why?
Just look at all the trash they leave behind.
If Motorhome users are doing the same what do we expect. I was hoping to do my first winter in the sun this next year, but if the locals see us all as dirty litter louts, I won’t feel welcome.

Don't let this thread put you off Mr Bandit... :)

We've never experienced the anti-social behaviour described in some of the posts. Having said that though we don't head for the coastal areas in Spain.

I wouldn't worry. I too have been to lots of places on 2 wheels, and the only example I've had of being actively discriminated against was in the UK. Be respectful, park up considerately, move on frequently and I can't see you having a problem.

The thing is its very easy to be put off by the doom and gloom brigade but I've been touring Spain now for 2 months and whilst I've seen a lot of places where there are too many motor homes gathered there are also lots of other places where there aren't.
There's a lot of rubbish in Spain...lots where there are and haven't been any motorhomes.
I haven't witnessed any really dirty behaviour myself thankfully ....most I've seen has been inconsiderate parking and those who completely break the nothing outside rule ( although in a couple of quieter places I've done this myself )
Don't let it put you off I've wildcamped all my life long before joining any motorhome forums etc and I'll continue to do it long after.
I leave no mess behind , I empty in the proper places , if there's free water I will use it , I generally just get on with what I'm doing and leave the rest to do as they are doing.

I don't think you need to worry overmuch , as the comparison with traveler community is like comparing peaches to potatoes :)
Its just like traveling with your car , don't park it blocking peoples drive etc , and you will be fine .

We have moved north and at Camping Valencia Poçol playa for tonight. They laid on a coach to go to the festival in Valencia.
No plan yet for tomorrow!

Now if you look at the ones they put up originally it would appear , as was stated at the time, that they were illegal ?
They've now gone back to the " no camping" signs which means parking is legal.

When I go to walk the dog I always park the motorhome there. Parking is not illegal even with that signage. Camping is.
When they first put up the signs , as above , all they did was send those who still wanted to be on the beach or adjacent in to the side streets or any patch of waste ground in town
If you went from Águilas to Calabardine they occupied any waste ground there + loads on the front streets. It is annoying for everyone but as long as they are parked & not camping the authorities hands are tied. What helps though is the fact that most are too ignorant to 'park' & infringe the rules by 'camping' & then the police can move them on.

Sadly the problem is they then move everyone even the ones who are simply parked.

I don't even use my step when I'm parked nothing gets left outside and I use the rooflight not the windows

In that case you are a victim of the abuse carried out by others, and I feel sad for you. However as in my earlier postings on this subject I am in no way surprised, because 10 or more years ago it was becoming obvious that this would happen. It will get worse, SAD but true. "Wild" campers will become (in the eyes of "Authority") like the "Itinerants".

P.s When it gets posted it will not be "P***ys", because that is considered non P_C!.:whistle::whistle::whistle:
