Is waving to others free spirits allowed

Sadly we rarely get a wave now that we have a white PVC, did get a few in our previous PVCs which were gold, then a silver one. I will keep trying. As soon as I’m behind the wheel I feel like I’m off on an adventure so I’m not too bothered. Love that feeling.

I like to wave but I am not usually driving, some wave, some don't 🫣 I also say Good Morning when staying on sites but some won't even raise their eyes off the ground, miserable buggers, it's just a pleasantry and I don't want to be your best mate! Each to their own but I shall continue to be annoying by doing it 🤣

The one that don't wave back, normally get a chorus of "miserable sods" from us. 🤣
Proud to be one the Miserable Sod brigade .....
As the driver, I can't think of a 'when safe to do so' time.
I can visualise me filling in the accident form 'I was looking across the motorway at another vehicle, one arm off the wheel ready to wave when...'
..... exactly that.
And not just motorways.
Narrow roads, deer, potholes, or oncoming vehicles ... I know where my viewing priorities lie!

We nearly always wave at motorhomes, usually passenger Janet does the waving, BUT I find myself itching to wave when driving the car after a longish MH holiday.
And I'm old enough to remember when GB plates used to flash each other driving round Provence.

Hi All,

After many years of owning a Motorhome I have treated myself to a new camper van, but which category does it belong?
Seats yes, captain seats yes, wet room/toilet yes, cooker and fridge yes comfy bed/seat yes, so am I Motorhome or camper van,
The question was do we wave at each other ( when safe to do so) I feel that I’m incognito! Only a few Motorhomers will wave back, and the same with campervans?

I sit on fence or better still I sit incognito in L2K
:welco:Keep waving…

Good luck with spotting it's a camper you're waving at and not a delivery van - Even with a Moho I still wave at horseboxes and Ocado vans 😂
Used to regularly wave at Morrison delivery vans when we were in an ambulance - that definitely used to confuse them 🤣

My other half still laughs at the fact that I waved at a prison van going back a few years ago, ‘I bet that made their day’ was her observation at the time. 🤔

I waved at a horse box once 🙈

When we bought our previous van which was a cute little Romahome the salesman told us about the 'Roma Wave' and sure enough when driving back to Weymouth we encountered another Romahome who waved to us so we waved back. We found that Peugeot Mezanne vans looked the same and waved at those but they never waved back. Now we have an Adria Twin Maxivan and get the odd wave.

We often wave from the RV but get ignored too.
Doesn't stop us though
We had one of those Ford V10's once in the US. With that size engine as well as waving you could throw a few fivers out of the window as well!! :giggle:

Hi !
I've never understood waving at others becuse they have the same type of vehicle as I chose to drive on a particular day.
As the driver, I can't think of a 'when safe to do so' time.
I can visualise me filling in the accident form 'I was looking across the motorway at another vehicle, one arm off the wheel ready to wave when...'
Everyone owns a motorhome or camper for different reasons.
I think "across the motorway" is a bit optimistic at the best of times and probably, as you say, unwise. We usually acknowledge vans coming toward us on single carriageway roads, or those overtaking us on dual carriageways. I (as driver) am more enthusiastic about doing it than my wife, who generally snorts derisively when I'm ignored (whether it's directed at me or them I'm never quite sure and have never ventured to ask). For me it's reminiscent of my days as a motor cyclist, when just about every bike acknowledged you. I think a bit of kindred spirit / shared experience comes into it. I agree with the thing about VW owners though. In the seven years we've had our van we've only had one response from them. It remains memorable not just for that reason but for the very high level of enthusiastic response from both driver (male) and passenger (female).

I try not to divert my focus from where I'm going to the inside of approaching vehicles. Do you look at the occupants when your 50 yards away, 40? 10? or keep glancing to look for the wave?
As a fellow motorcyclist I'm aware of the increased risk of being involved in an accident due to target fixation.
That's one of the reasons I don't look for waves - or respond.

We’ve discovered the following:
A classes don’t generally wave ‘down’ and PVC’s/campver vans don’t generally wave ‘Up’. Up and down are, of course, completely subjective!
Also the exuberance of the wave is directly proportional to the location on the van when said wave is being executed.
Practice turning your wave into a head scratch when Mr and Mrs Grumpy Draws don’t wave back…

We love a wave but notice we got far more in our coachbuilt than we do in the PVC. After 25 years of waving it still makes me smile.

There may be lots of different resons why someone is driving their motorhome or camper that day, maybe they're off to sell it as they've fallen on hard times, they could be coming back from the vet having had a bad diagnosis for they pet dog, maybe they're on their way back from a funeral, perhaps their pride and joy has just failed it's mot.
Please don't assume that everyone who fails to respond is a grumpy drawers.

I've noticed that, with an A class, the driver is set so far back that sometimes they are impossible to see so if I've ignored you, please don't be offended!
Mind you, we have waved at fellow MH owners when on urban roads yet when we park up near each other they totally ignore you so they must be the miserable sods.
Keep on truckin'

and the RAC salute from their motorbike/sidecar combo presumably!

We only wave to thank any vehicle giving way to us.

We always wave or in my case lift a finger from the wheel. In New Zealand some years ago we noticed few waved - presumably because most of those hiring were not regular motorhome owners. However we often did get waves from members of NZMCA probably because from a distance the Burstner logo on our van looked like the wings many of them had on the over cab section!

When I borrowed my friends vw camper last year I got regular waves from other vw’s I thought what a friendly bunch! But now I’m in my Ducato I’ve literally had no waves - none! I’m bereft of friends - billy no mates -is it because I’m a girl and despite lugging all 6.4 metres around I drive like I’m in a hot hatch? Perhaps…

Never stop saying hello on site - I’m the most smiley annoyingly friendly person on site and within 12 hours I can have an entire site behaving the same way - it’s kinda my life mission 🤪

I think it’s in the VW camper rule book - only wave to VWs. Snobs the lot of ‘em 😃
Guilty as charged, M’lud! I’m congratulating others on their similarly good taste. It’s a camping freemasonry, don’t you know!

Over the years I've noticed other MH drivers (regardless of vehicle or type) will wave if your in Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales, but the minute you hit France and beyond....the waving stops!! Including vehicles from above mentioned countries. I did warn my sister about it when she got her wagon, she thought it was funny until she experienced it and now she likes it and she waves back, but when she took it out of the country for the first time (to France) I did tell her...no one will wave once you hit France and beyond.

We were mystified when we first bought a MH in 2012, but soon cottoned on! We sold it when we moved to Pembrokeshire in 2018 (didn't have time for it with a 2 acre overgrow garden!) But we then found that nearly everyone in what ever vehicle - car, truck, tractor etc - waves on the small roads around here to everyone else as it's a regular occurance to squeeze past or reverse for a larger vehicle, or squish my little Micra as near a hedge bank as I can - (it can be a novelty to actually see a vehicle coming in the opposite direction on the roads I like to drive) - so we haven't lost the habit, and now that we've moved to a smaller place and bought a MH again we will be waving 'as usual'!

We have a MoHo and Janet laugh's at me because I wave at Royal Mail lorries coming the other way!
It might be 'cos I drive for them still!!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Oooh noooooo - as soon as there’s a central reservation involved there’s no need to wave at anybody.
