We’ve never been and wouldn’t want to go either. Not our thing. But love watching that program on TV bargain loving Brits .
Each to their own . We’re all different, and if we all liked the same thing, places we do like would be rammed with bargain loving Brits …….
Last time I was there I was about 7 so maybe 30 years ago we’re planning on heading over the water again come April so think we’ll give the area a try rather than Benidorm itself.
but go another fe whundered yards round the headland and Pontiente beach sid eof benners is quite nice, and they have spent a lot doing up the front.
A lot quieter down that end
We went for a day on a bus from Albir. It had a good beach and we enjoyed tapas alley. It was all going quite well until an inflatable penis danced past leading a hen party.
We made our excuses and left.
I've visited it and though it isn't for me I was struck by all the folk who seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. We had lunch there and it was a very good meal at an attractive price. Competition between the restaurants is the explanation for the quality and price I believe. I wouldn't knock the place, it has a good winter climate too.
Mostly because my parents went there on their honeymoon,
they went into the local bar (there was only one) and they refused to serve my mother as she was a woman.
My parents were also sunbathing on the beach.
The Cariberini came over and fined the lady on the towell next to them, as she had dared to actually wear a BIKINI !!!!!
As my mother was in a one piece swimsuit, she was tolerated.
My mother said, "never go back" so we never have (at least not since 1957).
Went for the first time in 2010, the beach was lovely as was the old part of town, the 'strip' was a revelation once seen never forgotten and all nationalities being plonkers not just brits.
Second time we were with friends who had holidayed there but not in their van, main reason for going was because I was ill, and knew that I would find decent medical help there with a good chance of an English speaker. Onky stayed a coupke of days till I was on the mend. Had a one nighter en route to somewhere else, no idea why there.
Haven't recovered from happy hour in an Irish bar yet.
Would go again if meeting up with others who are there, otherwise woiuldn't bother.
It is what it is.
However it does seem to be struggling, we noticed more closed shops and we were offered drugs off the doorstaff/inticers to the bars a lot more than usual.
Still enjoyed it for the time we where there though
The old Town is lovely and completely different to the 'bump and grind' of the new town and strip area.
Some great Tapas bars and restaurants plus some quite cosmopolitan shops and really clean beaches.
And if you get out into the commercial areas and back of the touristy bits there is some fantastic architecture and really nice parkland areas.
Benidorm is NOT all beer, chips, loud music and karaoke, but if that's what you want, it is available!
I like the place
Off there in Feb for a bit of sun (hopefully) and a recharge of the batteries.
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I suspect most on here think of it as the drinking/nightlife capitol, a bit like Blackpool, and don’t like the idea of going.
We’ve only overnighted once in the van as I’d had enough driving for the day. When we lived on the Mar Menor it was a nice place to visit out of season if you wanted to see the place, other than drink etc. and it has some lovely aspects to it. The weather is a big plus in winter. Our first visit there was 37 years ago and we’ve been back for a day a handful of times without any regrets.
