IQ Mobile reviews? vs RWG and Popit

It definitely says on their website: "We do however state we can't permit more than 3 months in a row EU usage without use in the UK breaking it up"

Are you sure?
IQ Go state "You may only use abroad for 3 months back to back in the year".

You can use it for more than 3 months in a year but not more than 3 months consecutively. It is to stop permanent EU roaming.

This is correct. We've used ours more than 3 months in one year outside the UK with no problems.

The IQ go looks good but has anyone checked speeds in a Mifi or router?
I have an RWP one and my phone has a Plusnet sim both on EE both very poor performance in a Mifi.
I get 7 to 11 mb/s in Mifi tried in both a Huawei 5577 and Teltonika RUT950 both the same but both sim's in my phone give 35 to 95mb/s.

Just done a speed check in Spain using my IQ Go SIM in my Netgear M1 Router (4G and no external aerial). Results are very impressive it seems to me. 59 Mbps upload and 8.2 Mbps download.

We are currently in the EU, Portugal at present, but travelled through France and a lot of Spain.

We would certainly recommend IQ Mobile. We bought 4 X 100GB (3 month) data only SIMS which were £20 each per month each and 10% off for signing up - so worked out at £72 per month for 400GB of data. Yes we do use a lot of data.

We haven’t had any loss of signal and pretty good speeds for the entire trip which has been 7 weeks so far. A couple of issues were sorted out very quickly via email and on weekends.

We used Popit last year for a similar trip, but the issue I had with them was we couldn’t cancel as soon as we got back to the UK and were charged for an additional month on each of our 4 SIMs with them as they stated we had to use at least 1-2GB of data on them back in the UK and the dates over the three months meant we had to pay for a fourth in effect.

With IQ Mobile, we have just paid for the 3 months and it will terminate a day or two after we get home.

For us worked out well and would definitely use them again for our next trip if the deal exists when we come back to the EU again.

If you use the data within the month do they notify you so you can buy another bundle or just run on to their standard (very high) basic charge.
If you started your bundle on say the 1st of the month then you run out on say 25th of the month and buy another bundle, does it then reset to 30 days from the 25th etc.
This is a question which I don’t believe has been addressed (sorry if I’ve missed it) and to which I’d like the answer.

This was precisely the issue we had with Lobster in Spain. If you ran out of data before the monthly limit, you could only ‘add on’ at exorbitant rates. Same seems to be true with Popit which I have. 100gb a month was just not quite enough and there was usually a week or so to eek out before another monthly 100GB allowance was bought.

Interesting thread, thanks to all. And, if a MHF discount is available, even better! Happy Easter.

We us IQ brilliant company, very helpful. Works great in the UK, just spent 3 months in France and Spain using the 3 month package, Worked very well in France good coverage and speeds able to watch UK tv through a VPN without any problems or buffering. The coverage in Spain was in my experience not as good as France, it was a bit hit and miss but that may have been the areas we were in. Overall it’s been a great investment for us.

You do not get a warning from IQ that the data is about to run out or expire by date. You can of course set your own calendar reminders and use your MiFi or phone tools to monitor data usage. I reset the MiFi data usage when a new package starts.

You can renew the package before the current package expires. This just restarts the 30 day clock from the day you ask for the new package to start.

Do you need a vpn to watch UK Tv with this company?

This is the only reason that I would need so much data abroad. Currently use Smarty which doesn't require a vpn. But, of course, only 12GB roaming cap.

We are using an IQ go sim in a mifi with an Amazon firestick with no VPN. All apps working including BBC iplayer.

Email them . That's not what they will tell you

I used the IQ sim a couple of yrs ago in France with no issues
There pricing structure seems better now as well
I had good connectivity any where I used my Netgear dongle with an aerial stuck to roof through the skylight
Last yr in Italy used the RWG. Again I had no issues
I would happily choose either and would choose on price/convenience and my needs of the moment

Thanks for this - previously on RWG to enable East Enders (other programmes are available) in EU. Cancelled when I found out on here (not from them) that data roaming reduced from 100 to 20 gb.
IG go sounds perfect, sim ordered, will activate before Belgian beer break next month 😊.

I use Popit which uses EE and mainly Orange in Europe. £25 for 100GB per month but you can then just keep it active at £1/mth when you don’t need to use it. It is free to roam.

Hi, looking at some of the challenges people are having with the RWG SIM cards I wondered if anyone is using IQ mobile? they offer a 3 month data only sim with 100gb a month for £60 and an IQgo sim with annual fee and monthly data as required. Can use all the data EU roaming Seems to use EE as a provider in the UK. According to their help whatsapp they use Orange and Bouygues but not SFR./ With Orange listed as best network coverage for France that should be OK.
Any comments?

We signed up to IQ as an alternative to Popit who we had previously used. We’re 2 weeks into a trip to Spain and it seems pretty good so far. It’s installed in our Avtex router. We normally complement it with a Spanish Vodafone Sim which are normally very cheap but everywhere we have tried so far has ‘sold out’ of this pre-paid option. So all good so far and it’s reasonably simple to monitor your usage.

Got home Friday, using IQ sim in France and Spain, 6 week trip, good signal every day, firestick worked well on all apps , no need for vpn

I'm no expert on this equipment at all but just wondering is it the AVTEX you're having trouble with? Or is the AVTEX working fine but you can't connect to EE? Just thinking this might help someone else to help you :)

It’s more likely the modems in you phone are of a higher speed than the ones in your Huawei 5577 and Teltonika RUT950. Both of these are Category 4 devices which is limited to just 2 antennas for each connection (referred to as mimo). More recent devices will have better modems (up to category 21) they can have up to 8 antennas for each connection.

All these antennas get combined in the modem to give higher bandwidth and lower errors. This is what will be determining the speed difference.

All the best!

That doesn't explane in the past speeds in the Mifi or router were far faster than in the phone. Same phone & sims so it has to be network throttling.

You might check this info is in the right place in your modem. From the FAQ page:

My internet isn’t working, what do I do?
First things first, try restarting the handset. If that doesn’t work, it may mean that the Access Point Name (APN) settings are not configured correctly. The correct settings for IQ are:
Name - Internet
APN - everywhere
Proxy / port - Not set
Username - eesecure
Password - secure
MMSC - Not set
MMS Proxy - Not set
MCC - 234
MNC - 33

Once you have saved the above settings, restart your handset and try to access the internet again. If this again does not work, try inserting your SIM into an alternative handset to rule out an issue with the SIM (this is called a SIM cross check), and then insert a different SIM into your handset to rule out an issue with the handset (handset cross check)

If the handset is functioning correctly and you have no data access on SIM, please call our customer service team so we can raise a service escalation with the brainy technical people. We’ll get it fixed for you as soon as we can

... so it has to be network throttling.
On this page (near the bottom):

'EU Roaming and EU International Calling is Enabled. Data is set to "moderate" by default.'

Try signing in to 192.168.1.1 on your tablet/laptop
Was it a 30 day package? Are you still within the 30 days?

How did you get the 10% off? Was it from signing up for the newsletter (which I've done, but got no email)?

I saw a code for use with the monthly plans which is IQMOBILEINT10

Did see 34% cashback from Topcashback.
Yes. That was the promo code I used and just took 10% off at the checkout when we purchased the 3 month data only 100GB sims. 4 of them in one go and reduced from £20 per month per sim to £18. A total of £216 for the lot in one go instead of £240.

One thing we have noticed and IQ do say they find it strange as no one else has apparently reported the problem, but to connect our Apple iPhones and Apple lap tops to the internet for surfing etc, we need a VPN and we use NordVPN. With that we have had no issues at all.

The Amazon Firestick plugged into the telly however has absolutely no issues and doesn’t need a VPN. Strange, but works OK for us.

I think they have upped the base price to £25 per month per 100GB though.

Sat in a park near Albufeira and getting 225mbps down and 55mbps up.

My comments were nothing to do with IQ.

I emailed them and this is their response.

Hi

Thanks for your query. There is no throttling done on our mobile service and in many parts of Europe you can now access a full 5g service.

Thanks
Peter
