Interesting article about grey water disposal on "highway drains"....

You are talking about 'Residential Moorings' an alternative to house living. Not what I would call Narrow Boating! 🤔
There are plenty of continual cruisers.
People thst live full time on their boat out on the canal network.
They have to abide by the mooring time limits whether that is 24/ 48 hrs or multiple days upto i thinkna maximum of 14 days anywhere without a time limit.
They then have to move a good distance ie more than just budge it along the towpath.

Even grey waste adds an element of nutrients to the canal water. This feeds many invasive species such as the pernicious "floating pennywort" . This is a blanketing weed which if left unchecked will spread bank to bank, for almost the length of some canals, The Wey navigation is particularly afflicted with it despite efforts from Nation Trust and canoe clubs along it's course.
Water buffalo, that's what we need, herd's of em, they can eat the weed, and we, [ WARNING non carnivores do not read from here on in only, ;) ]can eat said Buffalo's, a virtuous circle, and something else to look at on the canals.
Mike.
The Wey Navigation until quite recently was a blocked canal until volunteers,in the 80's, if I remember correctly, restored it. It is still regarded, in many ways, as an enclosed waterway after leaving Weybridge.
Recently, on Countryfile, growth of water plants in rivers and streams was blamed on Global Warming, perhaps that also applies to canals?

I doubt if many of them have connected water for their washing machines etc? 😆 Which was the question I was answering.

So the main 'culprits' for grey waste in canals and rivers are canal boats, not the occasional dumping down a drain by a motorhome.

So can we, in future, at the first mention of grey water simply shout CANAL BOATS!
:giggle:

Could just be me getting older, but the water round here isn't getting any warmer. Even some of the heavier frost have failed to kill the weed off, as it seems to be able to lay dormant, and bounce back as it warms in the spring.

No, I’m talking in the generality. There are service points sprinkled along the canals, in fact there are more water points than there are service points.

Continuous Cruisers have too keep moving and have no difficulty accessing water. I am a leisure cruiser and regularly pass water points.

Perhaps you could tell us where these numerous water points all over the country are and then us FLT motorhomers could take advantage of them? 😆

I carry a service key with me so i can use water and waste disposal when out in the van 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍
Not all water points are accessible for motor vehicles. Unlessyou have a very very long hose , ooo errrrr.😉😉😉

Will now drop grey directly (drain lever left open) on grass pitches if allowed but never from stored tank as that gets stinky and probably dangerous quite quickly.
Thats not good practice especially not nice for the next visitor. I wouldn't want to pitch up on a site with greasy dirty water left by the previous occupant.

Nor would I - we don’t drop greasy water with bits in.
Note I said if allowed. Some sites are informally happy for grey water to go on the edge of the pitch in hedge etc. that seems sensible esp with dry weather.
