Hey Gang, (This is not a cost related question)
I'm interested in your opinion regarding "do they work", or is it yet another item to fill up the small garage space we have.
And when I say work, do they insulate the MoHo, do they keep heat in and cold out etc...

I've got a TaylorMade cover, bought 2018 £154, although I only use it at the beginning and end of the "season". I made myself one for the windscreen with back to back radiator wall insulation bonded with Duct tape and screw type suction stickers at the corner which fits over the windscreen. I use this in the summer months as it's even lighter weight and just keeps the heat off the windscreen.

We have a TaylorMade long cover for our Ducato chassis Kon-Tiki.
In cold weather the external screen stops condensation on the inside of the windscreen, an internal reflector would not resulting frost/condensation and potentially damp issues.
Then in hot weather it stops the sun coming through the windscreen, stopping solar heating, internal reflectors only reduce solar heating not stop it.
Well worth the money, ours "lives" in the shower when not in use.

Yes, Yes and Yes....what they all said.

But

It depends on circumstances.

Ours (taylormade) came with the van, they are good at countering condensation and keeping the (A class) cab warmer. We always use them if staying put in the UK from November on.

And the but... our is a fairly small van and the bulky screens take up a lot of storage space. If you're regularly moving on they can be a chore to put on and take off. One point of our large front window is the large front view that we like to keep open. We tend at the moment to spend more time in Spain/Portugal in the winter time, we don't use them there. We find a Karcher type window vac very quick and effective at clearing condensation.
So yes, they are good.... but at the moment we rarely use ours.
Also use the karcher to dry the screen externally when it’s rained etc before putting away in bag…

Question, I don’t have internal blinds but how do they stop condensation. The cold comes from outside so presumably warm air movement behind the blinds against the screen will still cause condensation.
Thank answer is, they don't.

I don't have them myself, but the warm air will still condense against the cold windscreen.

They might be slightly better than no screen, but I'm guessing not much better.

Absolutely - an essential bit of kit.

Sorry, Fiat Ducato from 2022.
I,ve seen a few on sale there, but some comments are saying it does not fit well in a new model (or an x290 model).
We have Taylormade for our 2021 Ducato chassis Kon-Tiki and it fits very well.
The material used to fit inside the door is also tear resistant so we could cut slot to allow the secondary security locks to be used when cover is on.
Not related to cover but we also had plates fitted to handle to prevent "harpooning", screwdriver through door skin to trigger central locking. It's a common attack method used on commercial vehicles to steal tools.
Same issue for Citroen & Renault variants.

What more can I add? We bought one 5 Years ago for our Fiat Based Swift and wondered how we hadn't done it before. Yes it can be a bit of a chaff putting it on and removing bur the benefits are so much greater in lack of condensation, warmth and reduction of draughts from the front vents (even when they are closed).

When I bought my motorhome it had internal silver screens which still left condensation on the interior of the screen. I bought external and they are brilliant, they really do make a difference. Now, if I could only find a way to stop the wind blowing through the holes for the door speakers 😂

Hi Matt, try Caroline at Polar Screens in Telford Shrops, found them online about 20 miles from me, so rocked up and watched my cover being made, quality material, and the articulate stitching was amazing 👏 Priced very competitive, less than Silver screens or Taylor made. Would highly recommend the extended skirt to cover the bonnet vents, fit's like a glove, as hate sagging, never looked back . . .Oh and choice of colour's to match, black, grey or silver 👌

I purchased a Soplair insulated screen cover in France after much research. They used to be available in the UK but no longer. I got mine from Narbonne Accessories in France. We travel to Finland in the winter and Spain in the Spring (seasons for ref only😊).
All insulated covers seem to do the job. Just be aware that some cannot be used all year round as materials may deteriorate more quickly than others. Pay what you can afford as they are a good accessory to have.

Never needed them in either our Autotrail or (current) Burstner. Motorhomes. So they would just be space wasters for me.

Never had a problem with space/storage as fit's in the garage above our chair's on the rear wall no problem. Comes out pretty well straight away after levelling the van, and back in last ! We have 200kg payload in the garage, with bike at 100kn leaves another 100kg for everything else, we use our cover 9 times out of 10 so worth every penny we paid. Polar Screens in Telford for bespoke hand sewn made to measure 👌

We always carry one. Very useful when using the van during colder weather. Takes about a minute to fit and same to take off and pack back in its bag (2 people). Long enough to cover full screen and down onto the bonnet, wraps round to cover door windows and fits perfect. Practically eliminates condensation. Packs into a bag about 60x40x20 cms and easy to store. Two zips open it up during the day if you want extra light. Wouldn’t winter without one.

Yes they do on both counts. They will also reduce condensation as well. We have a very cold cab area which I am dealing with at the moment but we used the SilverScreen for the first time in November and we had no condensation on the screen and also considerably more privacy. They don't take up much space, ours rolls in to a bag approx 1m long x 200mm diameter. Ours doesn't cover the front external vents so I'm looking to add a flap to do that to improve the cold cab area. Ours is quite old the MH is 21 years old Mk2 Ducato, I think the later design of covers are longer to cover the front vents.
Essential kit. Keeps condensation down to near zero, and unlike the built in accordion or pleated blinds no light leaks around the edges to disturb you early morning slumbers! Mine covers the whole cab area and has a section that can be rolled down during the day to allow light in, but keep prying eyes out.

Another plus for Polar Technologies screen cover (Minster). We motorhome all year and the front external cover makes a big difference to the cab, which does not get a lot of heat from the central heating when parked up. Over Christmas we had it on next to the sea with 40-45mph winds and it was rock solid with no tie-down straps required.
Takes me 1 minute to put on, and fits my 2023 Ducato perfectly. Great customer support from Caroline (MD).

Solo traveller here, so I exhale less water vapour than those with partners, children, dogs and parrots. I don't have a screen cover, only the internal Remis blinds. I've been away at Christmas and at New Year and no condensation experienced. I put a rubber strip along the bottom of the screen as a precaution but it never got wet. I have a diesel heater if I need it. No plans to get a cover at the moment.

Got a set of internal covers for my Mk7Transit base Burstner, came with a set of tailored external cover ( to include doors) all good.👍

Ha ! Ha ! Totally agree Brize it's a big Yes to Caroline and her Polar team were fantastic, she even made me a cuppa while it was being sewn up 🙏 My main concern was fitment, I told her no saggy/baggy for me, as you can buy a cover anywhere, but one's that actually fit not so easy. Looked around vans on sites and couldn't believe how much they differed in quality and fit. She assured me if I'm not happy bring it back for a refund. No chance as it's perfect, I can fit it myself in under 2 mins 👌

Everyone to their own really Steve ! It was the price as well for me, sure your's and silver screen's are great, but cost can be an issue for some on a budget, don't you agree??? £200+++ in some top end cases . . .

Absolutely essential. Winter and summer. Brilliant to stop condensation in winter and brilliant in the summer to keep out the heat. Wouldn't be without them even with Reimo blinds as standard which are great for average temperature. Ours are Taylor made ,8 years on ,still perfect.
