Hey Gang, (This is not a cost related question)
I'm interested in your opinion regarding "do they work", or is it yet another item to fill up the small garage space we have.
And when I say work, do they insulate the MoHo, do they keep heat in and cold out etc...

We considered ours a PITA and they are currently stored under the spare bed at home! We rigged up a curtain behind the front seats instead. As for heat, we had a week away in low temps, including a frosty night or two, and had the heating on low overnight and were fine. I actually used gas to see what it would cost and it came out at £1 per day. Obvs on EHU it's included. Yes, there is condensation but we put up with that.

We have Silverscreens and agree with most on what's on here, and we use them whenever we are away in the motorhome, summer and winter. One slight negative (which maybe only applies to us) is that when we put them on when parked on the drive, it seems to increase the black streak marks that run down the doors of the motorhome. We now don't use them when parked at home on the drive, and the streak marks have virtually disappeared

Wouldn’t be without our Silverscreens. We store them in two bags pillows from Dunelm came in - side screens in one, big front cover in the other. Stored under the table for traveling.

External Minster Polar screen for me on my PVC with the privacy screen mesh and longer flap that covers the bonnet air vents. Negligible condensation inside overnight, definitely helps to keep the front of the van warmer (heater is in the rear so duct doesn't do well at pushing heated air to the front), and the flaps make a big difference in reducing draughts even if I do remember to turn the cab system to recirculate.

I don't have a garage so when travelling roll up and leave to drain off standing in the shower tray. A squeegee on long pole before taking off the van outside works well to remove a lot of the rainwater on the outside of the screen before rolling it up.

Yep, these are available in B&M for a tenner. Bloody brilliant.

They are not that bulky at all. Ours stores on the pull down bed or toilet area whilst on the move. Bag is 1m x 200mm Dia maximum and squashes down to less than that if required.
We don't all have the same size vehicle, nor the same thickness of cover, of course. Mine were for a big front screen, and then the side windows. Payload was no problem, but storage was.

Bigger front screen more condensation and heat loss. Even more reason to use a cover, that’s still a lot of water running inside the dashboard.

Massive yes for them. We’ve got a Taylor cover. And it is working very well in the mountains of south France with the snow and ice. No condensation and keeping the heat in. Also work well in high heat keeping it out.

Wouldn't be without ours, stops condensation, keeps van warm in winter and cool in summer, am talking external here, and as for VFM ours cost around £120 in 2009 and still going strong.

Always worked really well for us and reduced condensation. Ironically, we bought one for this winter for our Bailey Adamo on a transit base and then sold it. We kept the screen cover as the new van is a Transit too and then found new van came with a new screen cover included. So we have a spare - never left its bag!

Depends on the van, never found them necessary on our current one as there are heating vents between the screen and blind & the front blind is insulated roller aluminium.

My previous van had a lockable wooden sliding door between the cab and the hab area so never needed screens.

The current PVC has those concertina things that are silver on the outside that you slide out of their housing. They seem to be fine.

I did buy a set of silver screens but have on balance decided I don’t need the additional hassle

One of the best accessories I've bought for my van. Fitting them helps with the obvious of retaining a bit heat but also,
pros:
Reduces condensation
Helps doors seal more efficiently (Transit)
Helps prevent people opening doors to nick things from cab
More privacy
Cons:
a PITA when wet
Quite cumbersome when storing

Question, I don’t have internal blinds but how do they stop condensation. The cold comes from outside so presumably warm air movement behind the blinds against the screen will still cause condensation.

Mine are external thermal blind covers

I have had both Silverscreens and Taylormade and I would not recommend the latter if given a choice. But if it was a taylormade or nothing then I would go with the taylormade.

External screens are brilliant in the winter. In the summer or when wilding the internal ones will suffice.

Had both on our first van, after a couple years the Taylormades absorbed water they were also very bulky. Replaced with Silverscreens, lighter, less bulky and better quality material.

For me the big issue was fitment. The Silverscreens fitted far better. Also didn't stain like the Taylormades.

Silverscreen is a far superior product in my opinion. (y)

I have a 21 year old Para-Gon SilverScreen for our 52Plate Ducato, it is like new, virtually no marks on it, no splits, no frays. Would highly recommend.

If you buy only one accessory for your van .. an external silver screen.

Job done
Only ever used ours one once.. OK if you like sitting in the gloom, but we like to open the curtains in the morning to let the light and the view in.. and don't even mention putting them away when it's p*ssing down with rain.

I use them at home in the winter months when the van is used as a spare room, but wouldn't dream of taking them away again.... besides that, our cat likes to look out of the windows.
