IAN and HELGA,,ONWARDS and UPWARDS!!

Hi Ian you could get some vinyl signwriting done on ebay and stick it on your self its straight forward even a brickie could do it.

As for your mum situation find out about a will call bluff them a bit. A pal of mine when his mother passed away had a half sister. she never botherd about his mother never visited etc. Being polite he phoned her and told her she had passed. Her first question was oh does that make us rich.Well she wasnt in the will her father had left her his estate plus she had been extremley distant not bothered about her mum.

Anyhow the long and short of it was although a will was written my mate was advised to pay her off after couple of years arguing and bickering the only winners would be the solicitors. He paid her off and is very bitter even though he is now very wealthy. A will isnt worth paper its written on if contested it seams.

Try speak to you Aunt dig about a little In my opinion if you dont get closure on this it will always haunt you from time to time.

Wish you all the best fella good luck whatever path you take

Good luck with your new venture from us 2, Ian.
We haven't had family squabbles following mum's death a few months ago but even so it's rocked our world and left us all adrift in different ways.
You seem to have decided to let things go but I don't think anyone has mentioned this. If your brother/wife were dealing with mum's finances in any way (eg online banking) they would need to have had a Power of Attorney registered otherwise they were acting illegally. I think it's fairly straightforward to check if that was the case. But then you're left with another can of worms.
If anyone can put it behind them you can!!

I can’t comment on what you should do ... it’s a horrid situation to be in. But expect to be up and down for pa bit Ian. It’s 2 years since my dad died and still hits me when I least expect it. He was 84, had a good life but it doesn’t stop me missing him. Thinking of you ....

Sorry to say that was not the case for us so not sure it will work . All they had to say was ‘She said we could’ and it will go no further .

where there is no will, the law states which proportions of the estate are due to which relatives. and sometimes even if there is one, the law takes precedence.

Ian, i very much think your brother will have had all your mum's bank accounts in joint names. It happened with a friend of mine.

Yes I meant to say that earlier. I'd ask her sister as well.

i have joint accounts with a family member that died the banks froze the accounts pending probate, even though I am getting their share in the will

What estate? If she had nothing ?
Ian you do have an entitlement as has been said . We got £600 from an estate which should have been at least £35,000 but virtually all had been removed and we had a solicitors bill of £2500. So after our experience would leave it if it happened again

by your back of a fag packet sums, there should be plenty. Best thing though is you teach your brother a lesson

But he’s had it all and she, his mrs has either hidden it or spent it!

She bought 3 Great Dane dogs! The house stinks, and the garden is covered in shit!!

He’s had innumerable old motors he’s played with, they’ve had holidays,,

Besides I don’t even know who she banked with? That shows you how interested in her money I was! Lol. I have no idea where to start, and I know after his phone rant he wouldn’t tell me anything!! Anyway I haven’t heard anything about anything yet,, I shall leave it a couple more weeks, then I may text him to see what’s going on,,,, I firmly believe it’s all being done behind my back! And quietly!

But I can’t let it get to me,,, I’m enjoying my time here, and the weather now is lovely!! Lol xx

Got to say something Ian,as you have said it’s not about the money ,sometimes people in life need to be taught what’s right and wrong and as have many on here have said the law is the law regardless, hope the work situation is getting better all the best (y)

Pay the money. Go and speak to a solicitor. They will guide you on the way forward. I think you may regret not taking this course of action at a later date. At least you will know exactly we’re you stand. Not for money but morally you owe it to yourself.

Ian,

sorry to hear about all your problems. I'm afraid I cant help on any of them but wish you well.
Please excuse my ignorance here, are you new to this area of Norwich or do you know your way around ? The reason for asking is if you are new to this area and trying to find your feet then I might be able as a Carpenter too point you in the right direction at the places to go for, for various materials etc.
If you are established here, then please disregard this message and I wish you all the best in what is the next chapter of your life.

Best wishes,

Mark.

What is it they say about you can choose your friends but not your family?

You have my sympathy Ian, and for what it's worth not getting bitter about it is vital I think, good on you.

We're in the midst of dealing with my mother-in-law's estate, she died back in January. Family situation is a little complicated (aren't they always!!) but, vitally, there is a clear will in place and everyone is being very honourable and very fair. There is nothing uglier than watching a family squabble over the legacy of a deceased relative, we've all seen it happen and none of us want that.

I'm trying to encourage my folks to get their will properly sorted - it's complicated as I've a sister who has a fairly severe learning disability. To be honest what I really want to see them do is spend the money and enjoy it whilst they're here! My sister has more coming in through benefits than she spends, and whilst I'm far from being a rich man I'm content with my lot.

I do know a bit of the area mark,, I was in Gorleston for a while,, but when I finally get back here ( after some work for funsters) if it’s ok with you, I will message and have a chat? If convenient? Cheers,, ps, if you know anyone who can sign up my van for a reasonable price, local, that would be handy!

Ian, you are far richer than your brother is. Not financially but in a much better way. You are talented. You are fun to have around. You have the openness and willingness to share with others, joyously and without expectation of receiving anything in return. Money can’t buy happiness and it can’t buy true friends. We admire you for your attitude to life and feel sure that everything will turn out for the best for you.

Wow, well said !!

Good morning ,,

Well I went to bed at 3 am,or thereabouts, now I’m up again and I have no idea why, I can usually sleep for England!

But it was a lovely hot day here yesterday, beautiful weather, long may it continue!!

Had a message from a funster, re some brickwork for his mate, so I’m hopeful that might come about, we shall see,, but whatever, it’s always nice to be thought of, and recommended!

I have this week, till Friday to stay on the site here in sunny Norwich, then I’m off to a little cl I’ve stayed at before, the other side of Norwich!!

Had a bit of a drama with the new advert in the paper, someone decided not to contact me regarding a proof, and I was told it was in the paper when I rang to find out what was going on!! It looks shocking, wording not what I asked for, wrong colour and wrong company name!! I can’t believe the incompetence of some people,, after what’s been going on lately, I feel I’m loosing faith with the human race! Lol.

There’s a few campers, Motorhomers that have arrived here yesterday with a stunning collection of Morgan cars, some on trailers, some pulling trailer tents, lol. But they look amazing! There must be a local show on, I will find out, and see if they let me take a few pics to post!!

So, more tea,, more vaping, and a few roll ups to get my heart started and all will be well ,,,

Ps mitzimad posted that I should get a look at my mums last bank statements, I would like to do that, but getting no cooperation from anyone in the family, and being as I don’t even know where she banked, has anyone got an idea how I might achieve that!!

Just to satisfy my interest,,,

Thanks again, Chat later, have a lovely weekend, xxxxx

You seem to have it set in your head that you would like to find out what happened to your Mum`s lot... so as to speak..

For peace of mind and it will not cost you anything in the beginning...

Get your self down to a "Citizens Advise" and have a chat..

They are a mind of information and a lot who volunteer are ex Solicitors and solicitors secretary`s and people that know more than most..

And they will put you in touch with a solicitor that will give you an initial FREE consultation..

Nothing to lose and possibly a lot to gain...

I know I said let it go and get on with your life..... but...

Obviously it is eating and getting at you... so give it a try..

Good luck mate.. :hugs:

Just caught up with your new thread Ian and sorry to read if the troubles with family it's never easy.
Don't know what to suggest as it's a personal thing but I think you are at least entitled to some answers and piece of mind. I think old mo'advice above is probably the best advice for just a professional opinion if nothing else.
