IAN and HELGA,,ONWARDS and UPWARDS!!

Well it’s about 2.30 am and I’ve just woken up thinking that it’s morning, due to the streetlight down the road looking like the rising sun through the window! Went to sleep about ten, and my brain thinks it’s morning! So I’ve had a brew,, and I’m just sitting in the silence reflecting on my day, and the back of my tiny brain is busy visualising and furnishing my new flat!!

I have a slow puncture on my van, offside rear, so I have to sort that out, I do have a ring tyre compressor 12v on the van, but god knows where? Could be anywhere under all my crap, but I shall have to dig it out!

I do like the silence of an early morning, but it is also very easy to start overthinking things, and I can be my own worst enemy for that,,

so I cancelled my safeguard ins yesterday, and I also took advantage of my bank balance and I paid back the small loan I took out just before Xmas so I wouldn’t have the overhead, with the sale of Helga, I no longer needed it!

now I have thought about what I’m going to do re furnishings in the flat, and this is how I’m going to go about it,,,

the first things I’m going to get are a washing machine, a fridge freezer and a small garden table and chairs,, here’s why,, I need a washing machine now to catch up, a fridge freezer for my milk, food etc, and the table is for somewhere to sit and chill and eat and watch tv etc, the reason I’m not getting anything else is, I want the carpets down first, before I put any permanent furniture in! Oh and I’m going to get a blow up bed, which will do for guests later, should I have any! Anyway, when the place is carpeted I can get furnished properly,, and the table can then go outside into my new garden! I shall post snaps of this project as I go along, starting with the empty flat when I get the keys!! I have an idea of how I want it to look, but we shall see, and it would be interesting to see what you think of my design taste! Lol.

well, I’m going to have more tea now, then try to get my head down again,, so I will see you later! Xxxxx

Well up again,, a bit more kip was achieved though, that will have to do!

I have slept in Helga, for nearly five years, and for all that time, although the occasionally interrupted night, or unsettling sleep I have slept in her on her bed really well, and whatever mattress she had, she eliminated my back pain almost immediately,, well in three nights on a sofa, all her good work has been completely wiped out!! It takes me two mins to get off this sofa when I wake, and I actually have to roll of onto the floor, ending up on all fours before I can the pull myself into some sort of an upright position! Whatever new bed I’m going to get, it will be as tall as I can get it, and the mattress will be firm to rock hard! I’d forgotten how painful a bad back in the morning was!! Oh well,, such is life,,, to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune!!! Onwards and upwards! Xxxx ( you have to grizzle about something,, life can’t be all brilliant!! Can it?? ) lol

it's all slowly coming together Ian.

I panicked for a second when you said'' I'm going to get a blow up''as the next word started a new line on my tablet, I imagined a different word for a split second and it was quite a relief when I started the next line and it said bed. Phew.

Personally Ian.... if you suffer back problems... :frowny:

The first thing on my shopping list would be a decent bed...:nod::nod::nod::nod:

Easily stand on end or edge while carpets are being put down... (y)

Yes - cheap bed frame, & good quality mattress! The carpet fitters will have no problem moving it - you don’t want another week for your back to get worse just before you start work!

What is happening with the new venture, if it's only something small could you get a shed in your garden and work from that?

On the back burner Charlie, till I’m properly organised! Wouldn’t or couldn’t do it from the property! X

Ian, as a family of back sufferers we have found IKEA mattresses very good without being too expensive. I'm not sure if you've a branch nearby but might be worth a look. But do check their dimensions as i had to buy bigger sheets as ordinary doubles don't fit..

Yes, IKEA beds or mattresses can be good. But as mentioned, many are not a standard size.

We got caught out buying a new single mattress for an existing base - it was too long and didn't fit! Never thought to check the length - DOH!!

I always assumed beds were the same: single; double; king-size or super king.

But not at IKEA... ;) (y)

Congratulation Ian,

Re: the mattress, I find memory foam is good for my posture but hot, springs allow air to circulate.

As you know our daughter has a very small kitchen and to make sure that appliances fitted under the surfaces she bought a shallow washing machine/drier and fridge from AO.com. She also bought a gas oven from the same place which is supposed to be shallow but sticks out a little. The washing machine tumble dryer function doesn’t need a pipe to outside which is good, but it has very limited drying choices as reviews on Amazon will tell you - easy to find as it’s the only one of its kind.

A good bed and a good pair of boots, because when you’re not in one you’re in the other
pretty much what my grandmother taught me and it has paid dividends. I was in a car crash 27 years ago, fracturing my spine in 3 places. Having a quality bed is absolutely top of my priority lists and ensures I am able to function. One night on the sofa at my daughter's place when babysitting and I suffer for days

on previous motorhomes I have changed the matteresses to make the van usable by me

Think a blow up mattress is a good idea, as you say it could come in handy later.
Get a good one tho, get a box skidded airbed, they are very good and will help your back, then as said before get a nice bed frame from a junk/charity shop and spend money on a good mattress!
I think that’s a good idea get a table and chairs you can use outside later on and concentrate on the important bits like, fridge, washing machine and cooker!

We bought a king size mattress from IKEA and it was spot on.

Good morning,,,

well it’s been nice having so much company these last few days, but I need to get back to life in my own space really ! I’m just not used to living with people! Lol.

I hope I get the call tomorrow, and then I’m hopeing all goes quickly!

just watching tv today, I’m still not well really, but everyone in the house has it now, coughing, tight chest, tired, sweaty, horrible!

hope your ok, chat later, xxx

I am going to say somethng a bit different about the bed get a good base as well, fter 3 changes of matresses I discovered the problem was the base. I like one with a spring top and a fairly solid matress on top, memory foam is very warm, ok for heating bills in the winter but a nightmare in the summer, and that is with a coolmatic matress.
Not long till you get the keys enjoy this stage of your journey.

Good morning,,

well today’s the day! I’m hopeful!!

it’s been really nice of my mate to put me up, for the last five days or so, but there’s nothing like your own place,, I didn’t realise what a great nights sleep I was getting in Helga till I’ve had five nights on a sofa! Lol

I shall be chomping at the bit till I get a call today, I’m still hopeing that the call will come early, I have so much to do!

I have formulated a bit of a plan, the first stage of which is to completely empty the van of all my crap, find the stuff I need to get organised then take it from there!!

I’m feeling a bit better this morning as do a couple of others in the house, but still a bit tight chested! I’m sure that will get forgotten with the collection of my new keys!!

ok, I’m now just sitting drinking tea, waiting,, waiting,, waiting,, waiting,, waiting!!!!!!!

Xxxxx

Good luck with it all today!

( hope it’s not flu you have !)

Good luck today Ian,A great start to 2020 ?
