IAN and HELGA,,ONWARDS and UPWARDS!!

Ian, good things come to those who wait, by that I mean get settled in your new abode and keep up with your work and as your a very affable person keep talking to people you encounter and I guarantee you will one day trip over your ideal workshop and then your set

I, believe it or not, am grateful for all replies so far, it’s not necessarily clearing my mind for making a decision either way, but just reading is helping! If it was all about saving money,I wouldn’t move from Helga, but there’s a lot more in it!! Proper address for customers etc, it’s ok asking you lot for £15,000 for an extension at your house, but any customer that doesn’t know me, I know it’s hard for them to trust a bloke living in a Motorhome on a muddy field! Lol. Would I get decent work!!

on the other side though, like chaser says, £150 per week ad infinitum!! I’m a bit lost to be honest!

the reason I want to start something from a unit/workshop is because I do feel like the building, bricklaying etc isn’t getting any easier on my body,, and I’m looking to replace the graft with some brainwork and not so much grunt!! I don’t know!!
Will you be able to sleep in Helga at a unit?

I’ve come in late and realised you are taking the flat ! Yay!
( the couple buying Helga will be pleased you didn’t give back word!)

I know of someone living in social housing self employed as yourself didnt pay the rent for many years. he still lives in social housing and drives brand new cars. new leased vans etc etc never did pay money back still living in same place. That wouldnt happen if ya had a mortgage or was renting from Hoogstraten (google him)

What im saying is its the best bricks and mortar option on earth imo

Hi Ian

I think that it makes sense to take the flat. It gives you some security, and access to social security if you need it, none of us know what might happen in the future.
Helga has given you some great opportunities and adventures, and you are emotionally attached to her.

However, it is easier to replace Helga, if you decide that bricks and mortar are not for you, or you come into a windfall. Being offered another housing association property will be much harder to find. Also, in time you can think about transferring to another area, if you don't settle.

I feel that the business venture sounds interesting, and once you are settled and know your outgoings you can start to explore it seriously. The other thing to consider, is that it is easier to change direction workwise, now that you have a permanent address, and transport. In other words, there may be other work that uses your building expertise without using your muscles.

In my humble opinion it is wise to buy a good quality comfortable bed, it will last longer, and be better value in the end. Cheap mattresses don't last long, and tend to be much less supportive. I would invest in the bed, and then use marketplace, freecycle etc for the rest. In fact, that is what i did when i moved into my flat. I bought an expensive bed, half price in the sales, and it is very comfortable.

I still sleep better in the van, for some reason!

NEWSFLASH!!!!!

Ian the Builder, dumps Helga for a younger model, with better attributes, but poor mobility. The swine!

Karen

Anyway, good luck and Happy New Year.

I'm pleased you've decided to keep the flat - it seemed such a stroke of luck to be offered a brand new flat in the first place! And it will help anchor you in a community, Good luck!

Another here late on the subject, but for what it's worth Ian, I too am pleased that you have made the decision to go with the flat. I couldn't believe how lucky you were to get it in the first place, but I remember thinking to myself, "Yay, he's on his uppers now." (y)

Good luck with it all pal. :)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Ian, when I saw your post about keeping Helga and nOt taking the flat my heart dropped!
I think you need to stick with the decision you have now made-sell Helga, it will be a wrench, take the flat, get yourself sorted, do lots of networking and I’m sure in time you will find someone with a barn/unit/whatever that you could use for your venture.
There are always farms or people with a spare barn or ? that may be willing to help you and that would be cheaper than an official unit!
Dont be in too much of a rush, get this winter over, get the flat sorted and put yourself out there!

Ian what you need is a good woman to make decisions for you . From day one on this forum yours was the thread that first caught my eye as 'Ian and Helga on the job' sounded just what the internet was about , it wasn't until I opened the thread that I found out Helga was a Hymer motorhome and the job was building . I'm sure you have made the right decision in taking the flat and I hope you keep us all updated with whatever your new project entails. All the best for the new year .

Well done Ian, that’s good news for you. (y) I see it all unfolding now, house, rent bills, no Helga, meet lady friend, she moves in, more bills, debt, leave flat, buy camper van, go traveling, start a new thread on motorhome fun.:roflmto: (y)

I said it before and I will say it again. (y) Good luck with whatever do mate 2020 is going to be a good year for you.

Good morning funsters,,,

well it’s getting closer to the day my life changes, yet again!!

I did nothing this weekend, except pack a few little boxes up with a bit of gear, and threw away lots of rediculous crap I’d forgotten I had!!

so today I’m going to do a bit of shopping, post the iboost to John, who bought it,, and grab some more boxes for the pack up!

when I was last in Asda, I got a few boxes from them, so I shall try and repeat the process today, there pretty friendly so all good!!

I have to find a post office, not seen one yet, never looked so I shall hunt,, when you don’t need places, you never take any notice really!

I’ve been a bit lazy really, I have to do a final load of washing, but I shall use the site machine for that,, which means that I don’t need my little twin tub anymore, so I shall stick that in the classifieds for £50 ( collected) just to see if anyone wants it?

then when I’ve emptied the final bits from the cupboards, I shall go over Helga and give her a good spring clean,, I think I’ve been very lucky with Helga, when I empty the odd cupboard I can see no damp, or smell any, I think I just got lucky buying a sound van in the first place!
Well that’s about it for this morning,, a few brews, shower and off out, I shall let the traffic die down first, probably go out about ten!

oh yes, I forgot,, I spoke to the guy that owns the site where I am, told him about the flat, and he was pleased for me, he also emailed me a letter confirming my stay here, and the rent I have paid,, I don’t bother with a weekly receipt, I just pay him in cash,, so that was good,,, and the builder also sent me an email, confirming that the job he wants me to start will be at least five months work, and the money he will pay me,,,, I don’t know if the housing association want info like that, but I now have it, just in case!! So that’s good!!!

got a couple of days before I have to have Helga cleared out, even though I don’t know what the prospective buyer will do, I have to get everything out and sorted, so they can drive her away if they complete the purchase!

I havnt heard anything from them, over Xmas, but I know they’ve a pub to run, and I should think there busy! There supposed to be driving up on the 1st jan, staying in a hotel that night, then coming to me on the 2nd,,,
I wonder how I’m going to feel, if and when I see helgas big bum driving away from me,,??? I’m sure it will be strange!

now even more tea, and get sorted!

I hope you had a smashing Xmas, and I will chat later, when I’m back! Xxxx

Me and my lad went a ride down town this morning, Tesco , horrendous , never seen so many cars on the carpark, had to ride round to find a place, went across the road to Lidl, no more people than a normal day, just don't understand it, thought everyone was shopping at Lidl this year

Afternoon,,, update news!!!

prospective customer has just rung, want to get to me at 2 pm on New Year’s Day,, a day earlier than planned! So he can drive her back down and stop on the way to overnight in her! Lol.

I need to get my arse in gear now,, I shall do the outside of Helga tomorrow, they give a nice day, then on the morning of the 1st I shall rise early and get stuck in to the inside,, funny enough, she’s not bad really, it helps that I keep on top of it!

well that’s it,, not much else to report,, but homeless one day earlier!! Lol. Xxxx

Good morning,,

well it was a bit chilly outside last night,, I hope it’s going to brighten up today,, my app says no rain, so that’s good,,

I have no idea when my prospective buyer will arrive, he did mention early afternoon, but who knows??

well Helga is spotless, floors cleaned, inside of all cupboards spotless, bathroom looks great,, she certainly wasn’t in this condition when I found and bought her!!

I will take a few pics today, to remind me of our time together! It’s been fun,( if she goes) on the off chance that she doesn’t sell, the boss here said I could store her in the field, with a few caravans he’s got, for the princely sum of £20 per mth, I think that’s what he said,, but to be honest, I don’t want to leave her all neglected I’m a field, lonely, depressed, unloved,, I don’t think leaving a woman like Helga is the right way to go! lol

so, I’m going to just pack a few last bits,, sit and watch YouTube, and chill out till someone arrives,, you never know, they might be early,, it’s about 450 mikes he’s coming, I think,,

ok, so happy new year, 2020 already,, when I was 16 and at my prime I thought life would go on forever! Where does it go? Lol.

laters,, xxxxxx
