IAN and HELGA,,ONWARDS and UPWARDS!!

Good morning,,,,

bit nippy out this morning, but dry!!

yesterday I dug out for new path, see pic, and laid slabs, but forgot to take pic of slabs, will update tonight when I’m done!

lots of little jobs to do, more slabs out the front to lay, build a couple of piers for a Belfast sink to sit on, outside! Board and refelt a shed,,, just to keep it dry inside,, then increase height if joists in loft, to above insulation height so it can be boarded,,

I hope yourweek is going well, so far,,,

I’m getting used to warming the van up before I get in her, it’s lovely! And like a funster said, the screen clears up and good vision all round! It will continue!

I will update later with pics etc,, enjoy your day! Xxxx 62D4F299-58F4-4CC1-BC7E-7A01B07965A3.jpeg

Evening,,,, I trust you are well ,,,

ok, so the back path is done and finished,, as is the small step for it, and the front bit of yard is complete, and the two piers for the Belfast sink! Had a good day, was kept hanging about in B@Q though, waiting for someone to use the big saw machine!
So timbers, nails, felt, and screws all bought for the shed, which I shall do in the morning,,then I just have to buy the timbers for the loft.. which I shall measure up tomorrow!

Hats off to you mate, it was bloody freezing outside today, you must be a real hardy bugger :cold:
Where is the job?, hope its not Yorkshire, as you would have to be wearing the uniform (shorts & flip flops) to get served at the B&Q Trade Counter:xrofl:
Loft work even if a bit scratchy, would be my choice this time of year.
Good luck to you, hope you get the flat before Xmas, keep the pressure on em.

In Norwich les,,, Near the city! X

Right here we go! I have good news and bad news!!

a nice sounding young lady rang me today, about the flat,,,, confirmed that I had it, and all good,,,, here comes the bad,,,,,

completion and viewing for me has been knocked back till mid January!! Builders eh!! Lol. Don’t you just love em! Still I suppose when your building 3/400,000 houses, social housing has no priority!!

but there is a positive spin I can put on it!

Xmas in Helga, so she won’t be sitting in a field, over the Xmas,

I can buy furniture in jan, sales etc and they may be happy to keep it in store or whatever for me, till I get in,,,

I can holiday in Helga, and give her a good clean,, and still do a bit of work!

so I’m not too bothered, a bit disappointed, but no decorations or tree to buy this year! Lol.

Long story made short...
Ian is working in my daughter’s house in the Mousehold area of Norwich. She has Crohnes Disease, discovered when she collapsed during her AS level exams. Two hospitals stays later, and minus 13 inches of her digestive system, she has enjoyed a relatively normal life so far. Crohnes sufferers don’t manage anxiety well but she has developed coping mechanisms, one of which is deciding to move to Norwich where she did her degree. After a year of unsuccessfully trying to rent she sat down with us and we decided to mortgage our house to buy her one in Norwich. She moved in 7 weeks ago. To be honest I have always had Ian’s expertise in the back of my mind since he decided to live there.

Anyone who have tried to find reliable builders who are willing to take on relatively small jobs will know it is not easy. Having a well known trusted builder who has posted many photos of his work is fantastic. Funsters who Ian has worked for will know that he never complains about the work and readily gives his advice for free even when offered payment!

This is just another example of the value of this forum where Ian and Tam have treated us like family, and trusted us when baring their souls. I know I have been privileged to read their threads and to meet Ian.

A lovely tribute to Ian and so glad your daughter has been able to adjust to having a serious illness but able to get a mortgage through your help.

I wish your daughter well on her move to Norwich and the way she is coping with Crohnes.
My younger brother has had it since he was 17 he is now 65 but it took a while before it was confirmed. He managed it so well he was asked by his consultant if he could go into the hospital to talk to and comfort young people with the problem which he carried out for many years.

Good morning,,,,

well I can’t hear any rain on Helgas650 roof!!
bonus!!

I slept like a log last night,, went to bed about 9 and have just woken up, lovely kip,, I do sleep well in Helga,, I wonder if I can get the same sort of mattress when I get in the flat! If I knew what it was I’d be good!!

right, loads of tea now and get sorted,,

I’m doing a roof on an old shed today,, I will let you know how I got on later,, xxx

Good morning Ian, it looks like your going to have a good day positive news about the flat, though after Christmas at least as you say you will have the January sales bargains to get sorted. Fingers crossed ? for a good dry day for you.

Well what a turn up!!

ive prepared one side of the shed roof, ready for felt!!
Went to van to get timber, screws etc and unloaded, left shed felt by doors of van, took timber in, took me all of five mins to get it round the back and on the roof,, went back for the rest and some bastard has pulled up, and nicked the shed felt roll! Unbelievable, in a lovely place like Norwich!

now I have to go back and get more! Thieving gits! Or git!!

Afternoon,,, well been to Travis to get my timber for loft, just joists,, and then B@Q for screws and a cheap skillsaw,, Mission completed! Up in the loft tomorrow, lovely,, rubbing insulation all over my head, arms and eyes,,, no I don’t wear glasses I can’t see a bloody thing in them,,, So I’m going to clear the loft, just to the sides, lay joist extenders and then repack with insulation,, Conal is delivering loft flooring board on Sunday,so I can put that down on Monday,

then all work at this stage will be completed,,, I’m hoping to get at least another little job in before Xmas, but I’m waiting for one of my builders to ring offering me something before Xmas,, you never know!

I finished sorting out the shed, bit of a farts awkward job, but at least it’s dry now, recovered, both with timber and felt, so the weekends rain will be a good test!

ok, I’m going to cook a spaghetti bolognase now,, I’m so hungry I could eat the headof a scabby child!! Xxxxx

Keep an eye on your tools, whoever had the last will know you have a nice new one in your van.

Ian, they are breaking into vans all the while where we live because they know there will probably be tools inside.
They tour round on the lookout for any vans and are in out and gone in half a minute. Matters not if the van is alarmed and locked, waste of time taking the registration number as they are always on false plates or the vehicle has been stolen.

Feel sorry for you Ian there are some areas of Norwich where they would pinch your balls if they weren’t in a bag.
My son moved onto an estate called the Larkman 30 years ago with his first partner any how he bought a shed to put up in back garden terraced house with same behind and no rear paths, next day when he went to put it up some Bxxtard had nicked one side of the shed.

What a low life stealing someone’s tools of their trade
