IAN and HELGA,,ONWARDS and UPWARDS!!

Hi foxy,, no mate nothing was specified, but the job is to turn a couple of offices into four escape rooms, which is a popular pastime these days( apparently) and each room has a theme, one is going to be a jail cell, one a vault etc, now due to the amount of props, puzzles etc that are going to be fixed to the walls I thought it was best to do more than less,,,
You sure it's for escape rooms Ian ? ????

What base do you put under the artificial grass Ian?
I would guess that you have to dig out the top soil and put down some sort of stone base compacted with a whacker then covering of sharp sand again compacted and then lay the artificial grass. May be spraying weed killer before you start to prevent weeds growing up through it.

That’s exactly it, she put weed killer down and I also laid terram ( I think that’s what it’s called) lol. But you got it exactly!

Good morning,, I hope your well,,,,

I haven’t posted much because I’ve been struggling a bit, and I just can’t seem to get my head around it!!

I like Norfolk, I quite like the bloke I’m doing a bit of work for, but it’s all a bit higgle de piggldy!! A lot of landscaping work, driveways, bits and pieces, but nothing to get my teeth into really! His labourers are unreliable and when I’m set up ready to do something, I find I then have to do something different, cause they don’t turn up! I’m just struggling with the uncertainty of it!

I have had a couple of calls from the advert and I’m due to go tomorrow to price a garage build, so that’s ok, but I’m not sure I’m happy 100% doing these crappy bits and pieces in between,, I’m not having a go, cause I need the money, but working for a firm that has no organising skills is getting quite fraustrating!

I’m ok on the site I’m on, it’s nice, clean etc, other people on here are lovely, so all good!!

I think I’m struggling with the fact that I’m not able to organise anything in a way I see more efficient,,, Maybe I’m just unemployable,, I don’t know!!

I’m at a loss as to what to do! I think my old mum leaving hit me a bit harder than I thought, even though I wasn’t round her that much? Strange!

Maybe I’m just imagining it all, but I think if I’m not 100% happy with work, then it affects all other aspects of my life,,, very strange!!

Anyway, weather is lovely, Chat later! Xxxx

Ian, losing a parent affects you in ways you don't realise at the time. I think this is partly because you are forced to confront long forgotten family issues, it reminds you of your childhood whilst also reminding you of your own mortality.
It certainly messed with my head when I lost my parents and it did affect all aspects of my life including work.
Years later you realise how much it affected you.

It sounds like you lost your mojo, you need to try and rediscover it before it gets you down.
Can you offer to organise your own work for this guy, or at least your own labourer ?
Keep cheerful and as the song goes, always look on the bright side of life (y)

Ian, sorry you are feeling unsettled again. You just need to work for yourself I think, forget all the others.
Morning Ian. :)

I tend to agree with Helen. You seem to be at your best when you are your own man, and the quality of your work from photos and comments from happy Funster customers, speaks volumes of your skills. I hope you are able to sort things out pal. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Winter is getting closer Ian,,,think its time you headed south and enjoyed Spain for a few months to re charge your batterys,,Chin up and good luck,,BUSBY..

old-mo has got a job that's right up your street have you seen his thread?

Yes look at old-mo thread - might do you good in more ways than one, from what I read about him. He seems a good bloke & maybe older & wiser dare I say it? ?

Just wondered as it looked like the same spec as done in nursing homes ?

Looks like you’ve landed on your feet with that builder.

Might be worth sticking with him and bugger doing quotes and worrying about the jobs.
That’s what I do these days ?

Never know you might end up as Forman or site agent ?

I was a 29year old foreman plumber in charge of 10 men + on my sites , it was always stressful , the business I worked for couldn’t organise nowt, I wrapped it & started my own business , overnight a cloud was lifted & work was fun again, it was never about the money , but the money was a welcomed by product of doing the job rite , I couldn’t work for anybody else now so know how you feel

Good luck with the smoking. Apparently more people give up with the help of vaping than any other means now.

I can quite believe it .

I stopped back in 2007 , went cold turkey from 40 a day . The weight piled on , I jumped from 10 and a half , 11 stone , to 15 in less than 4 months . I started watching what i ate , cut down several thing's , cut others out completely , all along struggling to prevent anymore weight gain . Two months and 15 and a half stone later , i started smoking again . I kid you , not after two weeks , i was back to 10 and a half stone .
A few years later and during a bout of illness , i stopped again . I was actually quite ill , and it was seriously affecting my breathing (by this time , i'd already been diagnosed with a chronic medical condition) . I was back to 20 a day , however after 24 hours of stopping , this time i started vaping . The fluid had quite a high dose of nicotine , at 2.4 mg , which is rather comical as the average smoke stick has .9 mg . I recovered and went back to work within a week . That was four years ago , I've not smoked since and my weight is still stable at 70 kilos , i've not gained a single pound . Actually my general health has improved , despite that medical condition and my doctor is over the moon . If a smoker lights up in front of me , unlike many born again nonsmokers , it don't bother me .

You keep at it Ian . If you find your struggling or not coping , remember the fluid comes in different strengths . It is even possible to mix your own , but as i don't , i can't comment any further . The actually vaping equipment can vary wildly too . Just as a footnote , i've gone from a tenner a day to 3 an half quid a week , so i know all about saving money .

Just for information , i use a nautilus mini connected to a coolfire battery , and using 1.8 mg fluid .

I do. I started when vape liquid became regulated at 1.8% nicotine. I now mix at 3.5% (that I used to buy ready mixed pre-regulation). Using half-litre packs it takes about an hour to mix enough for 18 months still leaving enough nicotine for the next mix. I use 30ml squirty bottles to carry my refill liquid.

:hugs:Hugs for you Ian and hope you can decide what’s best for you.

Good morning,,
And this is a perfect example of what happens,, im supposed to be going to a house today, to remove a door and brick up,,

All good, up at five, set, ready to leave at 6.30. Phone call,,, don’t bother today or tomorrow Ian the labourer didn’t turn up yesterday to do what they had to do first! I will ring you when I need you!

Back to the drawing board,,,

Now I’m going to ring another builder today, who offered me work to see if he still needs me! Onwards and upwards! Lol

Hi Ian
I don't post on your thread but like to keep an eye on you. :D2
Just wondering if you would be interested in the fire that my husband and a friend built in our garden. Most people who see it want one, so I've always thought there could be a business there. Several people in our village now have one. I think you could knock one up in a day once the base is down. A man with your talents could come up with different designs. Let me if you would like a pic and I'll go and take one.

Come on let's all have a look (y) :)

There are some fantastic outdoor kitchens, pizza ovens etc that are brick built, I was considering at one time. This kind of thing but with pizza oven instead of bbq.

Ok ours isn't as posh as Onemanandhisdog .
But it is a double one built between us and next door so it doesn't take up much room in the garden. They have a grate their side and we have one our side.
We light it if we want to sit out late. It also doubles up as a bbq.
Please remember this was built by two amateurs.

The double side is an excellent idea.
