Ian and helga go south !!

Morning gus, you must be a builder getting up at this time!! Lol. I will get in touch in a week or so rich because fridge has decided to only work on generator again and you said there is a caravan place near you? Wherever you are? You can show me the place if you don't mind, ?? Ian.

Ok so yesterday was a bit of a lazy day! All I did was burn a bit of rubbish from the used building supplies! Oh I forgot to tell you I was doing some plastering last week and I had ten bags of what they call jesso delivered, well I got my mixer out attached it to the drill started to mix in the big tub I got and the stuff went off ( hard) as I was mixing!! I couldn't get the drill out of the bucket!! God knows how they use that stuff?? So a call to me old Spanish best mate Joffrey in the builders merchant ( who speaks good English) he was laughing as he arranged to swap the stuff for placo a more similar plaster to what we use in the uk, thankfully!! It was a dream to use and dries pure white so Jo says she doesn't have to paint the ceiling !!! I have told her that I will not do any painting because she can do that , and then she can finish it or any new any colour she wants!! She painted the front of the finca yesterday and it looks good, a bit of a peachy orange, lol. With a light blue front doir( very morrocan) lol. Anyway she had to get up the famous ladder to reach a bit at the top , well I was giggling, I had to hold the bottom of it as she rose to the giddy heights of the fifth rung! Her legs were shaking, her bottle was definitely going! Funny! Anyway I will have to go up the ladder on the inside to paint the top of the walls for her but this time I won't put the feet on plastic sheeting and I may get her to stand on the bottom so not to have a repeat performance of the other day !! So much for
IM NOT DOING ANY PAINTING !!! Lol. Off to buy some timber and plastic roofing sheets today for the patio area and a few other bits for work she has asked me to do, mosquito netting etc so it's good I can get on!! Will post in a day or two cause Internet runs out around 2pm today!! Have a good couple of days all and keep smiling! Ian. X.

Hi Ian, I've been reading your thread from the start but haven't said anything until now. I have a friend who says "kindness is my religion now" and your thread is a shining example of the beauty of it.
Never under estimate the huge rewards we receive from giving to others. You are a truly good man and I wish you all good things for the future.

Hi, Ian

Perhaps you should invest in these: -

I bought some for when I clean the MH, as our paving slabs aren't very level. They are brilliant! I feel so much safer now.

Is that a veiled hint regarding wanting a new patio? Hahahaha.

No Just another trip to Alicante .:(Yesterday as well.
Does the fridge work on 12volts as well as mains ? If so the gas side of it probably needs cleaning. No problem if it needs to go up the mh place .

Oh I forgot to tell you I was doing some plastering last week and I had ten bags of what they call jesso delivered, well I got my mixer out attached it to the drill started to mix in the big tub I got and the stuff went off ( hard) as I was mixing!! Yes, I did think of mentioning the yeso some while back. I think everyone has done the "mixer set solid in 25kgs of plaster trick " Get out Hilti to chip off:LOL::LOL:
You also have to remember that would be 'yeso normal'. There is a 'Rapido' as well , I kid you not.:D
You cannot mix it with a machine . When mixed by hand something similar to a paint rolling tray is used but 4' long & about 30" wide & the whole 25kgs will be in there with consistency of milk. It is applied literally by flicking on to wall with left hand & trowelling with the right . I have only ever heard of one Brit who can actually apply the stuff properly by hand.
These days it is normally applied using a machine .My neighbours brother did 200 m2 for me by machine application & the hallway was done later by hand.
They normally come with the mixer machine which just rotates & keeps the powder loose & dry & has a bottom feed through which it is blown by air to the nozzle of the gun where it is mixed with water at high pressure on pulling the trigger. The resulting mix is laid on like foam about 2-3" think. Funny thing is that, it must be because it is aerated through the application process, the working time is at least an hour.
To run the machine you need a 5kva generating air compressor , which is usually trailer mounted. This supplies the electric for the machine as most house supplies here wouldn't cope with the machine & air compressor nor would most building sites. The water is also usually supplied from a 50 gallon drum fitted with a ballcock & filled from themaisn. This is due to the fact that in many areas the mains supply would not keep up with the rate the machine uses it. On sites they'd use a 1000litre container , same method.
Due to the advantage of mixing at nozzle you can have as much application hose as required .Pedro had about 50 m of hose on the machine when doing my stuff.
If you are ever needing to put in uprights for string lines ,etc; then everyone uses yeso. Mix it by hand like wet plaster ,hold pole in hole , slap in yeso & wait a minute. Even if no hole , you can hold pole against a wall & slap it around it , 30secs & stuck.Has a lot of uses once you know
Sorry it's a bit long winded.:)

And Gus The fridge only works when generator is on. Not on gas or on 12 volt. ?

Ok so that's good! It's only the gas it's not picking up then!! So could be a blockage ? Probably caused by the leak of milk I had on the ferry!! I can't get under the fridge till the fridge comes out and I looked in the fridge vent and the gas is connected by pipework(solid) so I have to get fridge disconnected to clean out under!! And then hopefully problem can be solved?? Cheers clickem.....

No don't take the fridge out , try just cleaning the jet at the burner side, but clean it by blowing it with an air line or similar -dont poke the jets. In the past i have used a couple of stras taped together to blow the jets clean , now I carry around a can of air the type used for cleaning computers with . Give it va try first before moving the fridge -the milk should not have caused an issue as there is a clear space under the fridge well away from the gas burner , sometimes if you travel on rough roads and the chimney is dirty it can cause debrisd to fall onto the jet and block it -only takes a piece of dirt the size of as couple of sand grains to block it

Nice one Jim. Thanks. I will try to get some of that when I leave here, I will give it a go!! Cheers,,,,, Ian.

Yes as the others have said even something across the igniter will stop it lighting .Normally you can remove the side vent & access the whole burner assembly for cleaning.

Yes I had a look in there a week ago after removing the vent and there was plenty in there to have a look at!! I will give it a good blast and see if it works, again. Cheers ,, Ian.

Morning all, nice and early now, still can't get the habit of sleeping late!! Still daylight doesn't appear here till about 8am so the chance of 6 or 7 mugs of tea to start the day is lovely!! So I rang EE yesterday had a bit of a grizzle about Internet etc and got £10 credit so I guess they put that straight on so my internet continues till it runs out, bonus!! Went out with Jo for materials yesterday ( Monday) after Sunday's fiasco,, got pretty much everything sorted but it does take ages, the service is great in stores, suppliers here because it's all individual attention but until you get an assistant you can sit and wait for ages!! So materials for patio roof and mosquito framing come today so when I have tiled jo's new shower room I will do that then a couple of other jobs she wants and then off!! Prob be the best part of another week here but I am looking foreword to seeing more of this beautiful country!! Like I said in an earlier post I will be looking for a site with washing machine facilities first and it would be handy to get somewhere where I can have some post delivered, so any suggestions ?? A week or two on a nice site may be nice!! Oh and I'm not bothered if it's on the coast or not, I been here nearly 4 weeks and haven't seen the sea yet, but another 2 or 3 weeks won't kill me!! Will hopefully post later, but for now going to make my third cuppa !!! Ian. X

Try Los Pinos, Denia, south on coast,15 min walk into town on cycle way. Even has washing machine.
Then try wild camping on coast south of Aguilas, various beaches to try.

Hello all, today was an ok day,, bit chilly up here but still nice! Got the shower tiled today, with recycled tiles Jo got from a second hand shop, she's mad for recycling this girl!!! She paid the giddy sum of 30 euros for 300 tiles! Lol. Oh and a bit of gossip for you,,,,,,, we have been getting visits from a nice bloke , Spanish, his name is juan , he popped in today to see what was going on, he's a lovely bloke and the other day he pulled all the crap of the track with his old tractor, jo bought him a bottle of wine for doing it and he was surprised and well pleased!!! Well today he was looking at the unkempt trees and muttered something to me I'm Spanish, well he was telling me what they needed and Jo appeared, well he lit up!!! After a chat he said goodbye but 20 mins later he was back with his tree looper and proceeded to trim 2 trees up!! He was looking admiringly at Jo the whole time!! I said to her. I think he fancies you babe!! She was mortified and can't stop telling me how she's gonna get out of it!! Lololol. It's like being at school! Lol. Jo's got a boyfriend, jo's got a boyfriend!! Lolol. It does wind her up!! Lol. So tomorrow grouting the shower, and will hopefully have time to put roof on patio area and then mosquito netting on a timber frame, we shall see!! I think I will finish Friday or sat then off to pastures new!! Nice to see you, Ian. Xxxx

Hi Ian,

Any chance of you putting some photo's on here? I know Jo has some on her blog but a photo to go with the story of the day would be nice.

Richard

I bet you didn't have to scrape Helga's windscreen this morning though. I had to on the British south coast, then trudge through the sloppy mud with my dogs after weeks of rain. Rest assured Ian, you are in the right place! Thanks for keeping us entertained. Phil.

You haven't got the coordinates for that have you Jt? I have the 2015 Aires book and map I will have a look ! Thanks it sounds just right, especially that wild camping thing I haven't done that yet!!! Cheers. Ian.

Hi
Camping Los Pinos, denia has a web site and you can contact them.
Re beaches we were 3.5 klm north of San Juan De Los Terroros, and south of Aguilas, there are many sandy beaches off main road, check them out to see what suits.

If you fancy a different site near benidorm , we stayed at Val de Guadalest, 20kl north , old motorcycle museum/ resturant, o/n foc.

Ok well last night we needed water in the tanks,, Jo went of with el presidente the guvnor of the well! I then was under instruction to grab the pipe ( which is heavy enough empty due to it being flexible 100 mm diamiter rubber pipe) but when the 120,000 litres an hour fills the pipe and descends upon you it's an entirely different matter!! Now I had to drag it 15 ft just to get in the vacinity of the tanks and climb a set of well used wobbly wooden steps we found in the shed! ( I was lucky it had one good rung) !! Right I said to Jo on the phone while she and his lordship were at the well ( some 5 mins drive away!!! I got this babe. All sorted. LET HER GO Turn her on. Well flip me. The water hit the pipe which caught me squarely under the chin,, took me about 6 ft into the air and past 2 standing olive trees!! I was desparately holding on to what had transformed into a boa constrictor that was intent on finishing me off !!! Not wanting to let Jo down I grappled with the pipe through a haze of water and slowly dragged the pipe back to the tanks!! I heard her on the speaker phone asking if it was done and through gritted teeth I shouted. Nearly there babe. Another 5 mins please!! Well I dropped the pipe to pick up the ladder and it was off like a thing possessed !! Finally I wrestled it to the tanks, climbed the set of steps to the one God rung and dropped the pipe in the first tank!! Result I thought easy now!! When first tank was filled and remember 120,000 litres an hour are coming through it I had to lift it above my head to get into tank no 2 ,,, I had a good footing, I knew what to expect with the weight and I braced myself!! Lifting it out of tank 1. No problem. Reaching across to tank two was where I pointed the hose away from me but unfortunately it was pointed to the walk some 18 ins from my face!!! The wave that hit me was similar I think to an old spice advert where the bloke is under a massive wave at sea!! I got ( eventually ) the pipe across left it in the second tank and jumped of the crappy steps I was using!! I was bloody bruised and soaked !! I looked like a titanic survivor!!! Well Jo was on the speaker shouting ALL OK IAN ?? Yes I gargles and she turned it off!! Well when she got back she couldn't stop laughing at the state I was in as she showed me where her new set of perfectly formed, safe , solid , fully runged set of steps where!!!! I dragged myself back to helga feeling sorry for myself only to be serenaded by jo's howels of laughter ringing in my ears!!! When I saw her this morning she hadn't stopped laughing and is still sniggering now !!! What an evening !!!

It's a pity you're not filming all this, you could make a fortune on You've Been Framed :roflmto:
