Ian and helga go south !!

Bon Voyage Ian safe journey , it's going to seem colder!

Yes anthea, I think the further north I go the colder it will seem !!! Lol. But I don't want it too hot for work babe!! I'm sure it will be a nice change!!! Xx

@ianthebuilder

Bon Voyage for tomorrow mate.

Ok; so you've got the Spanish lingo off-pat, now for the French. By the time you get back to Blighty, you'll be cunniligual ;)

Drinking water = Eau Potable (NOT Eau portable as in carrying!)

Tokens (if you need them at an Aire) = Jetons (Pronounced 'gggetton' and not 'Jet' as in aeroplane)

Camp site = Terrain de Camping (there are other phrases for them)

Electricity is the same, but pronounced as in the advert "No électricité monsieur"

Pitch, tends to be the same only they say 'Peeech' or Emplacement (Om plass-emont)

Motorhome = (As you probably know already) is Camping-Car. They pronounce it 'Comping Caaar'

Reservation, Is the same, but pronounced 'Razor-vassion'

Wine is pronounced 'Van'

Beer is pronounced 'Beeaire'

Tea = Thé pronounced 'Tay' (well, sort-of)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's about it really. That's all you need to know. Practice shoulder-shrugging and you've got it!

It's all in the nose and throat Ian. If you can roll your R's like Vicki Michelle in Allo-Allo (Ooo René) and sound nasal like Charles Aznovoice, you'll be pulling the mademoiselles dans un minute!

Last tip Ian, for chrissake don't say "Mercy" like the English do. It's Merci - like - Meeresee!

Next post? IAN LE CONSTRUCTEUR ET ARTISAN VOYAGES AU NORD :france::france::france:
OK? I'll bite.

How the hell do you actually pronounce gggeton?

You'd never guess how hard it is to try and emulate the sound or pronunciation of a word. (At least a lay person's way, without the way a dictionary does it).

Perhaps I should have said Jjjjeton :D

Now you're talking!:)(y)

Most important translation for Ian, if they ask if you want Whiffy in France, don't sniff their arm pits, just say yes please and keep in touch with the wifi !!

being serious learn "parlez vous anglaise sil vous plait" will hopefully help as most French will at least try and converse with you. In my experience they are keen to try out their Franglaise. can be great fun

Enjoy your drive through France Ian.
We just love France where the driving is easy, the aires cheap and the people (mostly) friendly and polite.

Hope to catch up with you once you get back to Blighty.

Richard.

I will go down and have a brew with Malcolm and Jackson before I go , just to say goodbye, it's been great mewing them,,,,,

Lovely staff on reception and in cafe onsite!!! A good site, it's called ,,, oh I don't know!!!! But it's nice!!!

Just the one night on here and off tomorrow morning about 9.30 , I'm hoping to get straight into France from here tomorrow? Don't really know how far but I will put perpignon in sat nav and won't stop till I hit it !!!

Right I could do with some help!! I got the acsi book for campsites in France, and I'm happy with that! I won't do any Aires this trip just sites,,, but how do I read the acsi book to find a site in perpignon?? I can't work it out!!! Can anyone advise!!!! Please!!!!

So I'm going to have a bit of grub and a brew and then chill in helga,, I will venture to the shower in a bit, I bet there not as good as raco though!!!

You should have a map book with it so Perpignan is on page 53 with a closer view on page 127. So lots of sites here on the coast ie 2408 2322 2320 2321 2401 etc. not looked at any but u get the idea

Ok. Well I have put my route in sat nav. And I'm going to a place called narbonne,, campsite no 2382. Which is about 5 1/2 hours from here,,, so if I can get away about 9 all should be good!!! I have put a route in avoiding the tolls, and it takes me round Barcelona,,, Now I reckon a 5 something hour drive is plenty for me tomorrow!!!! If I stop on the way it will be to fill up with diesel in Spain for the last time and maybe have my last cafe con leche!!!!! So I'm leaving Spain!!! I'm a bit sad about it really I love the place!!!! Anyway, I'm not gonna get all teary!!!! I shall save my summing up for later!!!! I wonder what helga will make of those frenchies. ?????? Hoheho!!!!!! Xxxx

Does the non toll road take me through the centre of perpignon then busby???

I've just changed the route from here, I am now going to use tolls to get through the first leg into francais!!! Only 3 1/2 hrs as well,, but I def miss city centres then!!! So I can have a lay in now,, till at least 5.30 am!!!

This bloody internet here is shiiite!! Spent the last 15 mins pressing a button to be greeted with( for the 300th time). This web page not available!!! Christ it's fraustrating when your half way through a film!!! Xxx

the last time and maybe have my last cafe con leche!!!!! Xxxx

Stick to the tea as you'll struggle to find anything drinkable in France that doesn't taste like barley sugar or chicory.

Hi Ian I am driving up through France toll free, it's fine if you have plenty of time on your hands. But even some of the N and definitely some of the D roads are one lane only and there are lots of roundabouts and a lot of the D roads end up going through small narrow laned possibly confusing villages. So my advice don't put yourself under pressure and pay the (French) man when you need to (y)

Yes and its very busy,,go on toll road junction before and leave at the one after,,,Road not bad at all other than that up to Narbonne...Drive safe,,BUSBY.

You really mean you would like a blond for more than a moment Ian!

Don't keep us in the dark, what's the site name, other funsters might like to use it if it's good.

Mike
