I have a solution for good Mobile Data (300G) whilst in Spain (then any zone 1 country)

Same here ... guess what I'm gonna be researching before I get back off holiday ... if I don't give 30 day's notice by 10 May I'll get hit for another £20 with NO cashback!
I look forward to reading the results of your research Mel, and any "heads up" re another suitable deal you might come across would be gratefully appreciated. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

This is the email reply, in 5 minutes. That’s good service
Seems like it should be ok

Yes but I wasn’t sure if she meant poor in uk
Sorry to sound a bit thick, but where did she mean? I thought she meant everywhere with that provider.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Okay - I’ve been in contact with Camino this evening. The questions being asked about the other ‘phone’ plans are related to performance.

Camino was trying to be clear that these phone plans are not data plans in the way that the 300 Gig one is. As a consequence and because they do not run on VF SIMs, she doesn’t want to mislead people in their effectiveness as data sims. The data SIMs are specifically for the job of high bandwidth services across all zone one.

If any funsters who wishes to subscribe to phone tariff and use it as a data SIM, Camino has very kindly agreed to not charge anything (except the €5 for postage) if the performance is too bad. (FWIW - I think this is not the correct option if you want a data SIM)

My summary here is, if you want a mobile data service, there is one which is now proven with quite a few funsters using it and I believe, everyone is happy with both the actual service and the customer service provided by Tiekom and Camino. If you want to try and use a phone SIM as a data SIM, Camino will provide you with a no risk way of doing it. (Very generous)

My final observation is that for the sake of a few extra Euros per month, only for the months you need to use it; and assuming that you wish to use a data service across Zone 1, buy the excellent value €40 service.

Let’s look at the cost of six months use (probably the maximum for most with 90/180 issue) the it’s €240 for the six months and €18 to keep the sim live in the six months between the Euro visits. So €258 for twelve months service or a converted monthly cost of £16.80 per month over a twelve month period.

It’s still an absolute no brainer to go for the 300 Gig data sim…

Camino certainly is helpful and as you she would cancel a package if it wasn’t working, which is good and I go fast replies to my questions which is rare these days.
Thank you for your recommendation.

All set up and working for us, as of this afternoon. Thanks for all the info Carpmart .

I also notice that my account profile now has Motorhome Fun in brackets next to my name.
I think Tiekom may do some Motorhome related special offers in the future.

Thanks for the explanation Harvey. (y)
It is a data sim I would be after, but we aren't big data users, so will leave our choice of deal until nearer the time of crossing the water, hopefully in September.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Carpmart will you update us all when you have made your first payment please?

I still haven't committed any payment method to them, other than saying I was going to pay by Revolut Visa. It all seems a very casual approach on their part.

Hello - I understand what you are saying, it was indeed very relaxed. I paid pro-rate for the part of Feb we had service in and the whole of March on Monday or Tuesday evening this week.

The secure area will have your Facturer in it when payment is needed and I just settled directly with my Euro account Starling card.

So, on the form, where it says "Bank account", di you just put "Revolut Visa" or did you put your card details, please?

I don’t recall… I think I added my Euro bank account details. Ping Camino, I am sure she will be her ever responsive self!
Sorry, Harvey, my quote was to Armytwowheels . I should've chopped your bit out :)

Big shout out to Carpmart for this thread & thanks for the advice, assistance & SIM card (y)

Contacted Camino yesterday evening & she had everything sorted for me in under an hour. Have to say I'm very impressed with her swift response, despite being outside her official office hours.

After a few technical gremlins (User error & ignorance ) we were up & running within another hour & haven't looked back:coolest:

Only had this for less than 24hours but SWMBO is now a happy Bunny, as she can now indulge in her favourite soap opera & other "reality" garbage with the knowledge that she's not going to run out of data within a week.

I asked Camino the same question yesterday - you don’t put any bank details on the form. You do those once you get your log on and do it online.

Thank you so much, Ven :)

500gb is a lot, would last me a year plus. Have you tried one of your sky sims in your router? It did occur to me that if I could get a spare one to work and keep them on the same account then I could transfer spare phone generated allowance to it as required.

I tried one of ours in an old mifi in Spain and it wouldnt work, although I didnt have a fiddle with the settings on the mifi because I didnt want to take any risks with that card while we were away.

Yes, i just put Revolut Visa, no account number or anything else. She also confirmed in an email that you can pay by credit card.

I've lived here 20 years & trying to pay anyone is the last thing they worry about. I know businesses around here that allow 180 days account terms for other businesses. I think they all run on overdrafts?
*As an aside My mobile dd is with revolut. Last november I got the notice of factura but no payment taken .same for december, jaunuary.kept ringing to be told allok, don't worry ,nothing to do with you. Last time I rang in January I got an honest one who told me that as there bank 'bankia' had merged with'la caixa' the 2 systems were incompataible & until they sorted it out they could not take the dd's from anyone?? Finally been sorted in the last 3 weeks. done me a favour though as when I was chatting with her she said that I had a large amount of points unclaimed so she offset themn & that removed 2 invoices completely & januarys was only0,78c.:hi5:
How they can run businesses like it I have no idea?

You'd be surprised how many do. When changing dd's a coupkle of years back I had a girl from the water company emailing me at 10pm?
Then again you have to also remember that when they finish work & start looking on the internet /holidays /cars etc they have no problem texting, wassap etc at any time of the night. We used to run air bnb & that is the reason I turn off my phone at night due to the 2 & 3am text & bookings& inquiries.

Does it make any difference what country the sim is activated in. I’m waiting on SIM cards from Camino and she has told me I can activate it in uk, France or Spain. Is there any benefit in activating it in France rather than uk, for example, watching bbc I player, sky go etc.

Good question… will ping Camino and ask!

I’ve received my sim to our campsite and will contact Camino tomorrow for activation.

I’ve tried both my VPNs on the campsite Wi-Fi and neither of them work for Skygo 😞 I pay for Boxpn and use a free one occasionally but no luck.

A DM on which one you use would be greatly appreciated. I’m having a nightmare trying to watch the footie 😢

Camino got us all set up yesterday which was very unexpected on a Sunday. Works very well.

I have also sorted my VPN problem so I am a very happy girl.

Thanks again Carpmart for drawing our attention to it in the first place and all the other useful contributors 😊

Just got this back from Camino who’s got it from her tech team.

“Hello Harvey: that’s what our support department says:

Hi Camino, there are no benefits for making the first use in one country or another.

depending on the device and the country will automatically pick up the network configuration”

I don't think that actually answers the question, however I'm pretty sure that if the sim card originates from Spain, it will have a Spanish ip address. Which is what matters if we're wanting to get the iplayer etc. In other words you would need a vpn.
