Hedgehogs are still about….

Love the pictures. I need to get a camera!

There was a hedgehog on our front lawn on Tuesday evening. I used to see one a lot but that’s the first time I’ve seen one for well over a year. I’ve put some hedgehog food out.
Make sure the local cats don't eat it. We use a box with a short piece of downpipe allowing the pigs in but not cats

Back to normal……!!

The one that ends up in the water bowl only has one eye - not really surprising given the way they fight…….

Vicious little buggers!!!😱

Hi, many thanks for making the wife laugh out loud with your videos.
We had Pickles (he disappeared last month) and still have Peggy (she has 3 legs). In the back garden she had a lovely hog house well hidden, but along came rats, so she abandoned her house, and a rat took over. We have 2 feeding stations with corridors set up when the 2 used to visit. Now Peggy visits & eats from both feeding stations. We have 2 field cameras set up to watch them. 1 camera caught Peggy coming from the front garden into the back garden under the gate, now we are desperately trying to find where Peggy is coming from in the front garden. Both cameras set up to find her.
After a long story how can we get rid of the rats, they can't get the hogs food, but drink out of the hogs water.
Can't use rat traps in case Peggy gets caught, she did get her nose stuck inside a rat box to lick the peanut butter. We put the boxes up higher on logs but nothing seems to entice them in.

There are lots of cats (and foxes!) living near us, and I haven’t seen a rat in our garden for a few years. Apart from being eaten by predators, rats (apparently) do not like pungent aromas, such as garlic, onion, eucalyptus, white vinegar, coffee grounds and peppermint ………..

This photo was taken many years ago when we lived in Eastbourne……we seemed to attract Foxes and Hedgehogs even then!;)

Young Robin……(y)

Do hedgehogs need feeding at this time of the year? we have one which comes into our garden at night and drives the dogs crazy. I have put a few bowls of water out over the fence on the field side so they don't have to come into the garden to get water.

Ours are still feeding, and they may have young about too. We’ve noticed a marked decrease in the number of ‘hogs coming into the garden - there used to be 7 regulars, but this has dropped to 3-4 per night - not sure why, but possible that they’re getting fed elsewhere…..? (I did have to take one to the vet a few weeks ago as it was very sick……didn’t recover, unfortunately :( )
