Hedgehogs are still about….

Hedgehog and fox sharing their food……….

…ad the fox burying some food (fat block for birds) to retrieve later…..

my wife was absolutely enthralled with the videos, how do we know where the hedgehog in our garden is hiding, too many places for it to go.

We get a regular visitor, turn the sound on and you'll hear a Tawney Owl too.

This is from last year..

this is as good as meerkat manor

Only just caught up with this thread, Brilliant (y) a few night ago we had one come looking for food at the bird feeder, we put some hedgehog food out but had to cover it to stop pheasants and pigeons eating it, last night he/she turned up at 5:30 pm, we sit out till sundown with a glass of wine and watch them, if there is any food left at midnight the rats come looking though

Only been a couple of ‘hogs the last three nights - both fairly small so still feeding themselves up I guess. The others have all vanished…….do they ‘know’ that the weather is about to get colder…..??

Yes we are still being visited for food (dry cat food and a tray of water). I thought that they had gone into hibernation a couple of days ago but then spotted a 'calling card' so know that they are still out and about in Telford, Shropshire.

My regular visitor who I think is a large male hog was absent for about 4 weeks so I stopped putting out food. I assumed that he had gone into hibernation. I did provide a weatherproof hedgehog house but it has never been occupied.

This morning I found his calling card on the lawn at the spot where I used to leave his food. I was gutted that I had let him down. Tonight is forecast to be frosty so I doubt if he will come back.

You’d be surprised, SpeedyDux …..some of ’mine’ were about in the snow last winter!
Leave some food (and water) in the usual spot and see…… 🤞 (y)

Love seeing "yours" on this thread.

I did see a pair on my lawn on Tuesday at about 11 pm after I put some food out. And a bowl of water. Possibly a mother and juvenile despite the light rain. The old boar is more solitary. He gets to the food first leaving nothing for the others.

When the neighbours' dogs start barking at night that seems to indicate that there is a hedgehog about. No tracks in the frost last night. I am wary of putting out more food unless there is a strong chance that it will be found first by a hedgehog, because I have had a rat problem in the past.

‘Does my nose look big in this….?’ ;)

Three about this evening, including one-eyed Jack…….

Slugged!!

Took it about 5 minutes to ‘slide off’ the camera…….

Ours are still about too. Feed is disappearing fast. All 3 feeding stations emptied most nights and all 3 bedding boxes occupied and one enterprising one has built a new home against the fence behind the shed which is a very dry spot due to overhanging conifers. We have put a board leaning over it just in case any rain could get through. We had a new laptop and can't get the cameras to load on it so can't watch like we used to. Baby hog was out this week so he's obviously eating enough to survive. Dogs tell us when they are about. Hogs so used to them they just ignore the barking and carry on.

We are still having hedgehogs visiting for food most nights. We have a purpose made box with a hinged lid which is partly filled with dry leaves. They definitely visit and make a hog shaped hole into the leaves but never stay.

We put a bag of hay/ straw out for them to put in their beds. It all disappeared and it looks like 2 feeding stations have also been utilised as B&B's. Last year we even found one had been using the insulation round a boxed in outside pipe in the open fronted garage as a bed. It was a huge female - square shaped from the box! A friends dog smelt her and we were worried it was a rats nest
Needless to say we now have rat bait boxes near to the feeding stations and so far no🐀. We think we have 6 🦔

We have a few over here. Won't ever be cold enough for them to hibernate.

Love the pictures. I need to get a camera!

There was a hedgehog on our front lawn on Tuesday evening. I used to see one a lot but that’s the first time I’ve seen one for well over a year. I’ve put some hedgehog food out.
