heating oil, ouch!

Yes, thinking of an alternative heat source for next winter, I don't fancy being held to ransom by uncertain gas supplies
Log burners are also very useful if you have a power cut. We have a 7kW fire that can keep our old 2 bed semi heated, without any other heating.
We can heat water for drinking on various gas rings, BBQs and even the top of the log burner. Although I haven't had to try these out yet, in theory I could run our oil boiler with a generator, or a spare battery and invertor (although not for very long).

As a matter of contract law, it would appear to be a breach of contract and the loss is the additional you have had to pay to get the oil supplied by the other dealer. As you’ve paid using your credit card and the amount is greater than £100, you also have available to you section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act which makes the credit card company equally liable for the breach of contract. You could contact the card company and tell them what has happened and seek their proposals for compensation. Good luck.

Thank you for your views on this matter. I have just spoken to a friend who works at Citiziens Advice and he has replicated what you have said.

It annoys me me when large companies treat you so shoddily.

I am having a glass of red and trying to chill but will be back on it tomorrow.

Thanks again.

What a nightmare!

I ordered 1000 litres on 23/2 with Boilerjuice at 64p a litre for delivery on the 9/3. I paid the total sum by credit card.

I received an email today to inform me that the supplier used by Boilerjuice could not deliver the oil tomorrow and Boilerjuice had now cancelled my order.

I ordered oil with a local supplier today and paid125p a litre for 1000 litres to be delivered today.

This afternoon I made some enquiries with the supplier Boilerjuice were going to use. They are still supplying oil with a 10-15 day wait. They stated that Boilerjuice had stopped processing orders on the 7/3 and whilst my order was showing on their system, Boilerjuice had not paid them. The conversation was recorded.

Furthermore, the total price would depend on oil prices on the day of delivery.

Basically, Boilerjuice have been caught out lying.

In my opinion, Boilerjuice have broken their contract and should compensate me for the difference I paid for the oil today.

I would appreciate your views?
I find leaving a damming but factual review on Trustpilot usually does the job and provokes a positive response. Companies hate it

Boilerjuice has put prices up again to 1.50

Charnwood makes excellent wood burners , manufactured in the Isle of Wight I believe , so free of the made in China label which is a great plus to me😎
It's a Charnwood stove which I'm due to have installed at home. As well as looking smart and being efficient, the 'made in the IOW' was also a definite factor in the buying decision. :)

I realise that you have possibly lost some money, hopefully not a life-changing sum and that you are justifiably peeved by the bad supplier. But especially in these stressful, uncertain and unhappy times, keep a sense of perspective and enjoy your glass of wine. Life’s too short to let such things upset you.
All the best. 👍

Snap, ours will be fitted in June

It's lucky we have a log burner - we came back from a week away to a cold house. Our boiler decided to save us some money on heating oil by packing up while we were away!
Hope to get someone to look at it soon.

Crude oil prices are heading back down again - below $1.10 from a peak of $1.36. Will try to delay a refill and hope the heating oil will follow that trend.

A lovely wood burner I used recently, but they can get through quite a lot of wood in a relatively short space of time.

That's why I only start my log burner as dusk approaches. About 5 hours burning in the evening seems just right to make the log supply last.

I think that the wood pellet stoves will gain ground with energy prices rising and less work to run for the less able

suggestions that it could peak at the $150 to $170
So diesel falling to £1,06/litre which was the price when the oli barrel was last at $143 ?
Just scamming and greed afaiac?

Shipped from Canada? Works well for "renewables " and the "environment " :giggle:

There are some small producers in Uk who supply bagged pellets for the domestic market, I think one is on arran

Sounds like a plan, but I can’t see the whole nation turning to wood burners as there are not enough furniture let alone trees 🌲

Talking things of relative value, listen to Warren Buffet.
He is not given to knee jerk reactions, then be worried and relate that to the current gold price.

All the cities are smokeless zones and would be illegal to light a woodburner anyhow. It's us rural folk who need them.

If all 9.7 Million people who live in rural areas burnt wood we would still run out of trees pretty quickly so it really isn’t a viable option.

Not true

You can burn wood in an approved stove.

Wood has to have less than 20% moisture(y)

Just done comparable quote,ie same time frame delivery, and type of oil, same amount, Boilerjuice £143.54 per litre local company £123.04 per litre
Can’t believe I just paid 67.5 a litre and am in Yorkshire. Forget boiler juice and try to join a local buying group.

Just cancelled my Boilerjuice account and asked for refund of credit in my 'tank account.' Just (yesterday) had delivery of oil from a different supplier - £1.05 per litre...Boilerjuice quote on same day was £1.60 per litre!! I understand market forces/security of supply issues etc. etc. but sheer profiteering is not on.

We just ordered 1000ltrs.
Usual supplier, Northern Energy, never gives us a delivery day but a general timescale and calls on the morning of delivery .
They won't give us a price as they don't know what they'll pay until the delivery day.
Expecting £1400 to £1700.

We are interested in a particular house which has a 1,000 litre tank and uses 4.5 tanks per year so when we priced the running cost the fuel agent quoted £2,125 delivered.

The current price means that our bill would rise to £4,185 but I am now predicting that Heating Oil may go up further to £1.30 a litre meaning a bill of £5,850.

Crude oil hit the $113 mark today and there's even suggestions that it could peak at the $150 to $170 range so watch this space.

This is just the start of the big costs.

This may be cheeky but can we borrow your motorhome for a couple of years :giggle:

All the best,

Andrew
It might be worth having a look at the energy rating of this Chateau you are interested in.

Our 4 bed, 2 reception detached uses between 2 and 3,000 litres per annum depending on how much time we spend away in the winter.

Wow ordering without knowing the price, I never knew you could do that. I bet they love customers like you.

We got some red diesel from our supplier the other day, they couldn't give us a price, but when you've got machinery sitting idle......
