Guinea pig part 2

Which Rennes was MisterB talking about though? - le Chateau or 'ordinary' Rennes?

Sorry for the delays in posting everyone, I have been a little preoccupied with family matters, I still am.
arrived at Argeles sur mere and booked on a site called camping les cirques de porteils we have stayed here before and is fine, if a little dusty at the moment.
The campsite is the busiest we have been on up to present, but it’s not hugely busy.
People within 2 metres 3 (still).
Weather is hot, 34c and climbing, fortunately there is a breeze, which is cooling.
Roo has to do some remote work this week so we will be static for a while.
Our view from the van

What a lovely place. We stayed there in a static 3 or 4 years ago. Spent a good hour watching the planes trying to douse a fire over the road. The irony was the firefighters had to put their fags out before tackling the fire.

That one is around 800 Km from the place that MITHRANDIR was at, which was Rennes La Chateau (not Rennes in Brittany)

Rennes as in Rennes .., up near the top bit, a bit to the left, a bit more to the left and then down a bit ...... FIRE (for those that remember Bernie the Bolt!!)

looks like my compass settings were totally skewed ......

It seems to me that things looked a lot better when you set off MITHRANDIR, than they do now 😔.

We are still hoping to visit Spain via France, crossing over 4th July. From France to Spain is not a problem and we (U.K.) are currently on France's amber list and this is not a problem for us either as we are both double jabbed and will do the free Antigen test within 48 Hrs of departure. (As advised by other's and receiving an email confirmation of test result from Gov. website). Merkle and Macron are now trying to throw a spanner in the works by advising the whole of the E.U. to insist on all Brits coming out of the U.K. and entering any E.U. country to be quarantined. I'm not sure how this would be applied to Brits crossing in their own M'home ? Anyway, as I understand it, even if these new rules were adopted by the whole of the E.U. Brits who have been doubled Jabbed and can provide a neg. Antigen test would be free to enter without quarantine ? It is my view this is the ideal time to cross over into the E.U. their rates are very low and I believe ours will start to drop soon as we seem to be throwing everything including the kitchen sink at the completion of our vaccination programme and testing at an amazingly high rate too. We both have paddy passports and I think this counts for nothing under present circumstances as we will be seen as two Brits entering the E.U. and be classed exactly the same as every other Brit with the exception perhaps of no stamps in our passports. I will let you know how this goes when we cross over, unless things change between now and then that clearly prevent us from going. Fingers crossed.

On reviewing posts in this thread it appears to me the NHS Lateral Flow Negative Test result, even when produced by the Gov. web site has yet to be confirmed as being accepted by the French border staff ! For a minute or two there I thought I could offer these up instead of the £60.00 Boots Test! Never mind.

It is quite simple. If you haven't paid for the test it does not count. All about 💰money 💰

I dont get why people think that the NHS should pay for tests, so you can go on holiday?
why not they are paying for tests for people to go to Ascot, Wimbledon, Wembley etc. If they want to keep the country safe we all pay our taxes so why should you have to pay?

They are not keeping the country safe, if theyre paying for the Covid test to go to France/Spain etc. they will be paying to keep those countries safe.

Those are thinly disguised as test events, so in theory we learn something from them in order to progress.

The test for going abroad is thinly disguised as a tax but going into the pocket of a mate of a politician and we as a country may gain the VAT.

Why not! its free for all at walk in's so why discriminate against those going on holiday !
Because theyre testing people in this country to protect it. Are the UK asking you to do a test to enter France/Spain? No! So you either pay yourself or ask that country to pay.
Anyway we are hijacking the thread on this nonsense!

MITHRANDIR and any other of you guys that have travelled UK to EU since the end of March.
What was the feeling / expectation of the EU customs guys as regards you taking your 'goods' into the EU. I'm thinking things like bikes, electrical equipment etc etc. Did they ask how long you intended staying in the EU or did they ask for a list of equipment or anything?
Asking as we hope to return to Spain in October and are thinking what our situation is as regards 'importing' equipment etc!

RubyOptics Should I change it to "We, as a country, are supposed to get the VAT but there is bound to be a tax fiddle somewhere" ?

the only question I was asked is if the gas was turned off. Nothing else. No other questions or check done to the van.

It not about that, it's about the result of the test being independently confirmed by a third party, one that is done by the self-tester and the result declared by that person is very much open to being abused so that those who test positive can easily say it was negative in order to continue what they are wishing to do putting people at risk.

When I visited a free walk in L.F. testing station a couple of weeks ago, before any testing was done I was walked through how to register on the NHS Covid 19 App. then I took the test and about 40 minutes later I received a Txt message from the test station with the test results. There is no way I could amend this so do find your post a bit odd.

They accepted mine and wifey's which was done at a local pharmacy but was free. We just showed them the NHS text on the mob to the French border control, no quibble. The fact that it was done at a pharmacy would I suppose show it was the third party but it said nothing different so how would they know.

Returning next saturday 3rd July. We've booked a pcr test at a lab in Neufchatel en Bray, but now I've got the issue of sorting out the 2 and 8 day test in the UK. It seems we can do a home test from Boots or the like, but have to show that we've booked it when we cross over. I can do that the day before, then we should be back home in time to receive it, as it takes 48 hrs to deliver. So that'll be three tests each when we have had both jabs. Ridiculous. We have not been in contact with anyone in France.

It was the same for us. British border control politely asked if we were going on to any other country, we said just visiting family. Then the French wanted to see the negative covid test. Oh, and the travel form. It was simple

Was this at Dover or the tunnel ?

Did the txt indicate it was a NHS test ?

I do the community test (at home) twice a week as part of the Scottish Govt statistics. I self report and get an email and text to say I am negative (that's after I have told them I am negative - all been negative so far :) ) If I was intending to travel and was unscrupulous (neither of which are true) I could just report a negative test after scanning the QR reporting code either after a positive test, not doing the test at all or not correctly. If done by a third party this is eliminated as Minxy Girl says.

My text messages now state "NHS Test". Previously they just said "Covid Test".
