Government bans GB sticker

So did slavery but Great Britain was a leader in the slave trade.
I suspect his change will be more about black slaves and past racial history than being recognised as a seperate country.
Funny how UK is always singled out for slavery but for thousands of years all countries and races are guilty of the same thing,Greeks,Egyptians,Romans Vikings etc etc etc.BUSBY.

I'm see quite a few cars here in France with UK number plates and no sticker at all. I'm guessing it's all going to end up just the same as the French orange environment sticker, another item to be ignored. The French are being very hospitable towards us. Like minded people perhaps! Who are enjoying their life without causing upset to others.must check for turds under the van before we pull off.

I have some cash left in the Funster Hardship Fund. If anyone can't afford a UK sticker to afix to their luxury motorhome, do give me a shout we'd love to help.
Where in Yorkshire is the end of the queue? :whistle2: :giggle:

If I keep your place, will you keep mine when I need to use the toilet? My bladder isn’t as young as it used to be. :giggle:

Think it starts near Leeds? (y)

Just tried it and t cut will remove the black GB and you can felt tip the new UK takes no time and you don't have to remove the sticker :p🤭🤗
But how much is a felt tip pen? I mean it could cost more than a new sticker. That’s without the cost of the
T cut. 😂😂💷💷💷.

Reminds me of the old joke of the unemployed Glaswegian who attended the Job Centre, and turned down an interview for the position of Pussy Trimmer in Airdrie because he was allergic to cats. When the Job Advisor pointed out that the job was not to do with cats, but at a Beauticians, the Weegie agreed to go for interview.

'Right', said the Advisor, 'the interview's at 9.45 on Wednesday, here's your travel warrant to Doncaster.'

'I thought you said the job was in Airdrie,' replied the Weegie

'It is,' said the Advisor,'but the queue of Applicants stretches to Doncaster...':LOL:

Thanks, that’s exactly my point. We don’t have to stop displaying the GB mark anywhere. We probably will have to attach a U.K. sticker somewhere which will be available for about 30p from ebay.
Hardly a cause to get ones knickers in a twist.
Hush child. Some folk just like to moan.

So are we going to jail for keeping a GB sticker on our vehicles or not? Are we banned from having GB stickers? I don’t think it’s our government alone that makes the decision to change the country’s identifying sticker.
I never had one to start with 😁 and wont be entertaining a uk one either. Ive an ecosse one and that will have to do

and where did you think I plagiarised it from? The Auld Yin has taught me well!:whistle2:

only have the top line and not second line
Oh! I’m no good with Galaxy advice 🤣
But the access to the 2nd line is the same for all.
It’s the 3 vertical dots just above the 2nd row’s icons. Called a hamburger menu. That’s from when it was three lines rather than dots. Looking a little like a hamburger…

Edit: oops. Missed your 12:45 post. And I’d sigh at someone else not reading updates before posting.

I have not had time to read all 9 pages of this thread, so apologies if my points below have been covered.

My understanding was that the international country identification letters were agreed under some Treaty although I do not know which one.

If this is correct then for any country to change its identification letters it would need to get the agreement of all the treaty Contracting States. Otherwise it would need to rescind its accession to the treaty to act independently to make the change.

Then there comes the recognition of the letters UK by other contracting states to the treaty.

For it to be an offence in another jurisdiction not to display 'UK' as the identification letters, there would have to be a local law covering this, as the law recognising the treaty requirement for 'GB' to be used would be complied with as now, so there would be no offence in that jurisdiction and no fine, but there could be a fine for not displaying 'GB'.

If I am correct on these points it seems that the change in UK law would have no effect in another jurisdiction, and also not result in enforcement in UK since the 'offence' would not be committed in the UK, apart from any evidential problem the UK Government would face.

Seems like a pointless requirement for change and we should just carry on with 'GB'

Geoff

Read the Gov. Site Not some stupid tabloid.

Travelling in Europe

If your number plate includes the GB identifier with the Union flag (also known as the Union Jack), you do not need a GB sticker. But you will need to display a GB sticker clearly on the rear of your vehicle if your number plate has any of the following:
  • a Euro symbol
  • a national flag of England, Scotland or Wales
  • numbers and letters only - no flag or identifier
If you’re in Spain, Cyprus or Malta, you must display a GB sticker no matter what is on your number plate.

I've just put a UK one with the GB one today - I know I'll forget otherwise 🤪

As a Tyke I'm here to tell you that the price is in fact 20 bob, not 10 bob (50 pence) so too expensive for me. In any event, I've just added two tiny EU stickers to mine, so there.

The change does not come into effect until 28 September, and therefore the Government website has not been updated yet!

Apparently, the UK Government has already notified the UN concerning the change to UK as the country identifier, effective 28 September. I've no idea if it has already been ratified, but it sounds as though it may have been.

There's an idea UK stickers on a blue background with little yellow stars around!
