Go Home!

You may think that, but to leave the BBC where they are means that you need to move your position 3 places to the right.
That would put you in the "most extreme conservative" column
Laughing...or you move your position 4 places to the left....“Ultra Hyper Extreme Fanatical Liberal”...you need to add another column😊

I’ll read any broadsheet...from The Grauniad to the Torygraph....get 90% of my influencers from good journalists in proper newspapers. The Spectator sometimes 😥. Don’t go anywhere near FleeceBook, Twitter or SnapDrivel. I’m onto a loser as is everyone else is who reads as they seem to be on the wain. The day newspapers fold will be a very sad day....I have to admit I am going further right as I get older....raving lefty in my youth....even liked Derek Hatton and Arthur Scargill....you get wiser as you get older though....

When they start charging the Pakistani's for the resurgence of TB then people might start paying.
I was told that the biggest increase in the incidence of T-B, came after the Eastern Europeans started to arrive in number following the "opening" of UK borders to "free movement". And increased after 2012 when the Rumanians became eligible? That is not to say that some diseases that where eliminated (or nearly so) in the UK, where/are being brought back from the Indian sub continent though?.

They however are diseases that we have some control measures for. This current "Chinese Virus" is the result of bad practice and lax control by the Chinese Government, who put the need to "control" everything before the best interest of the WORLD community. Which is why you and I are in "lockdown". and unable to live a proper social life!. With all our interests on hold and an enormous financial bill to pick up, and our Economy on it`s knees. And people Dying unnecessarily.

If anyone should be charged, it is the CHINESE. The W.H.O. have been brown-nosing them for decades. This is at least the 3rd release of "new" viral pathogens in the recent past originating from CHINA. Time the WORLD community took take steps to make this state (China) a Pariah.

Ultra Hyper Extreme Fanatical Liberal

I wonder when the meaning of liberal changed from
'willing to respect or accept behaviour or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas'

In view of that definition from the dictionary I wonder what an 'Extreme fanatical liberal' can possibly be apart from an oxymoron.

The simplest and probably the most effective way to do that is if everyone globally stopped buying goods manufactured or produced in or by Chinese companies. Will we?

I think that you would be doing without an awful lot of stuff!

I would suggest virtually impossible at present, we have all become used to and reliant on cheap products from China.

Yip and therein lies the problem.
Not just cheap tat but how many high end items like mobile phones (including iPhone), computer components, etc, etc, ............. are produced in and sourced from China.
If we were to endeavour to "slap down" China for them being the source of the virus it would have to be at an individual citizen level as any Governmental action would just be the start of a trade war a la US \ China instigated by DT.
It's the way of global trade nowadays.

It will be difficult. We could start by opening more factories in the UK making pharma products, medical supplies and PPE. The Government is paying for a new factory to make a Covid-19 vaccine so that's a good beginning.

The next obvious target is the cheap textiles market. I would put an environmental tax on "fast fashions" which according to what I have read after an average of 5 weeks from date of purchase are disposed of and mostly go to landfill. Apparently some people prefer to buy new "fashion" clothes rather than wash them. Lazy gits.

No because nearly everything has components from china these days

Why ?

Greed and profit and that's more important than people

I did not say it would be EASY. However, if even some "effort" was made, and The "west" made efforts to bring at least some manufacturing back to "base" (in our case "Blighty"). We would reduce "Pollution Miles", for one, create some employment. And sent the message to China that we are serious. UK first step would be to put 5G on hold until we had an alternative source of Supply. However it is my view that even a vote of censure in the UN, whilst it would be no more than symbolic would be a first step.

'Fast fashion' is typically made in the Indian sub continent.

If you want to 'punish' China then remove anything with steel in the product. That is everything from bottle tops to cars to buildings (and of course the ships that move over 90% of everything you see around you)

Agreed it will be difficult. The difficulty in building and opening new factories would be the cost and timeframe required to do so. Who pays the upfront costs? Once they're in production will they be cost competitive with overseas facilities? Questionable give historical precedents.
Given a huge number of items will be made from materials that aren't \ can't be produced in the UK these will have to be sourced overseas at what cost and global availability? Where will components parts for inclusion within the final product be sourced from or will there have to be factories to produce these also?
How will home produced products stack up cost wise within the export markets? Would UK home market have sufficient demand to ensure ongoing viability of the production output?
And the key question is will we, UK Joe Public, agree to pay increased costs for home produced items? Which takes me back to my previous post, will we as individuals stop buying products produced in China?

That's all very well if you have lots of money
Which unfortunately most of the general public dont ....people buy stuff from china because it's more affordable than the equivalent here.

For example the very popular cheap chinese diesel heaters £84

Webasto £ 400

To encourage folk to buy british you would first have to increase peoples wages and income so they could afford to

What about those who have not purchased a "news"paper in over 30 years?.

Most people don't buy newspapers any more.
Unfortunately print media is on it's way to becoming a thing of the past.
Most media is 'consumed' electronically, on TV, on line, on radio.

Quite clearly. That would be (at this time) impracticable. however Supporting our OWN steel industry would be a first step! NOT planning to sell it to the Chinese!. And yes I would advocate that even if it was seen as a form of "nationalisation". In War, and this IS IMV a "war". (just not as we know it Jim!) You protect your base assets, not give them to an enemy!.

There have been a number of "Buy British" campaigns during the previous century all with minor, if any, long term success. Why? Because Joe Public looks for the cheapest price which, generally, is from overseas.

Yep and I can understand that ....money goes further.

I was once a follower of fashion and paying a couple of hundred quid for a pair of shoes or Jean's wasn't unusual ....then I got wise lol especially when I found that often the quality wasn't much better it was just a name you paid for.

That simple version is incredible.

After the Express was bought by the Mirror Group there has been a discernible shift leftwards in its editorial policy. The Mail likewise has shifted towards a more liberal policy since Dacre was replaced as Editor. The Spectator is centrist. The Indy is left of centre. The BBC is now so openly woke and left wing it has given up the pretence of impartiality.

Ask yourself why that is?. China has one, if not the worst "human rights" records on the planet. the Chinese Government exploitation of their own people is appalling. their living standards are (except for the Party faithful) pretty dire. THAT is how they "Compete". (and by stealing the inventions of others) And yes I am aware that it could be applied to other parts of the world too.
