Oh shit,,wish I could help.BUSBY.

We are in Berlin 480km from Dortmund, whats required?
Thanks for the offer but wouldn't expect any one to drive that far to empty a cassette, not desperate yet and don't know if I will be able to drive for a few days when they let me out.we do have a shovel on board we may FLT but no way am I letting her dump it in the river.

Is there no one adjacent to assist?

What a chat up line, 'could you just empty my cassette(s), my husband is away for a few days - but no peeking' 😳😳😳

If I was anywhere close I would happily sort it but not over there yet. Good luck, get well soon

Could she hire a car, and use that to transport the two cassettes to and alternative aire for emptying?
Then use it for big shop, or other things to get the most of it?

Just a thought.

Had a decent couple of days apart from the weather.

Berlin - a good look round the touristy bits. Brandenburg Gates, Reichstag, Cathedral, Check Point Charlie, etc.
Left site today Friday at 12.30, at checkout got a 'Nein! check out is 11 latest, you are too late' 🙄
Anyway got sorted and left was on a campsite proper for the 1st time this trip I think as we wanted laundry and an electric top up due to overcast weather and little driving.
On the way out passed the Luftwaffe museum and called in. For anyone with an interest in planes and WW1 &II in general this is a great and FREE must see.
Externally a range of 'modern' jet planes from the 60's onwards plus a few helicopters, air defence missiles, radar trucks etc.
Inside one of the hangers is a super exhibition of all things warfare from early wooden craft (some replica some original) through to more modern Mig, Sabre and Tornado all in super condition.
In addition a walk through of the wars in English all very interesting to me anyway.
Most staggering exhibit was a simple board detailing the casualties both civilian and military from WWII - simply staggering.
A few photos attached but lots more on the Polar Steps trip site if anyone wants more.

Left Garmisch-Partenkirchen after a very pleasant three days. Had a great trip up the Zugspitze on the rack and pinion train. Weather cleared at the summit, at 3000ish metres. Magnificent views across the Austrian Alps.
On way to Augsburg SP, today, we called at Linderhof. Another of Ludwig the Second’s mad schlosses. Beautiful gardens, based on Versailles, looked a million dollars in autumnal hues. The Schloss itself is outrageous, also based on Versailles, but well worth a tour. One UK van seen today near Ettal. Locals very friendly. No Covid connected issues in 3 weeks. Germany feels very organised and very safe. One week left and then back to Mad King Boris’s domain.

Drove here in the dark tonight and didn't realise we were quite so close to the Poland border 😂

On the website for Linderhof Castle it says a guided tour is only available. We fancy a drive up there but with the dog would we be able to just walk freely around the gardens. If so whats the charge.?

Hi,
Gardens are free. Good, dedicated MH parking for €3.70. Miles of woodland paths and trails up to the local peaks. Cafe by ticket office (Kasse). Looks a picture at the moment. Only charge is for house tours which are €7.95. Tours in English at 1235. We really enjoyed it.

A clearer image of the true cost of war - didn't realise the original was out of focus.

The figures are mind-blowing to anyone who hasn't lived through a war. Hopefully we never will again.

Thanks, will give it a look, will be heading slowly North over the week, any other suggestions?

The motor museum at mulhouse is fantastic and I don't usually enjoy motor museums. You can stay overnight in their car park quote safely too :)

Nowhere as good as it used to be modernising it has lost all its character.

If going near Karlsruhe the Weingut Geiger near Karlsruhe, and Baden Baden. We went there on recos from Landy Andy and a few others have gone and nobody moaned. I came out with 10 boxes of wine. Try the tasting of 5 glasses for 4 euros.

We've only had a couple of rainy days since arriving in Germany on 8th October.

Making up for it now! Torrential since 9:30 last night and forecast till 10:00pm tonight 🥺

Just a follow up to my message in post #1260
Received an email from Dartford Crossing. They closed my account and kept the balance of £16.50. They have now said they will refund me my balance but the fine stands as my account was closed when I crossed end of August. Sounds very underhanded to me and I will not pursue any further as I think its now a lost cause.

Does sound a bit underhand re Dartford Crossing PhilandMena - might be worth a thread highlighting this - must be plenty of funsters with Dartford Crossing accounts who havn't travelled for a while & could get caught out when they next use it.
