GBP/Euro at 1.20. Anyone buying early?

(and max 5 withdrawals should you want to only get out

The days of taking Travellers Cheques or bundles of cash on your trips abroad have gone.
I don't think so. As my daughter & 000's of others found out during the floods in Aussie last week. No electric, no internet evacuated from home, stores open only taking cash as no electric/internet, no cash available as no atm's working 🤷‍♂️No good having none when you need it.

I've had emails like this that automatically go to junk!
& mine
I'd guess it's the last year or so you can do that.
I doubt it. What are you going to pay with if there was a 'strike ' on London?
I'd presume that at some point in the next few years, like most other people, I'll stop using cash altogether
Why? If you need water or fuel in a desert there's no card machine.
You can't even buy butane cylinders here from repsol , cepsa unless you have cash.
I'm quite sure that the Euro hasn't been around that long, but this piece of news is interesting!
From the PoundSterling Live website:
The Pound to Euro exchange rate printed a high at 1.2082 on March 03, surpassing the December 2019 peak at 1.2081, and registering its highest level since July 1016.

must have got over 1,21€=£ earlier as i have an auto-exchange at that amount set up & it changed it at 8,26am.
Could do with a bit of advice if anyone can give me some.

I need to transfer a substantial amount of money to Germany for the balance of my new van.
Is it easy and secure to do it through my Revolut card?

Doing it through my Barclays Premier account will cost me £4k so looking at alternatives.

TIA
Lenny HB also used revolut but I think he went premium & also notified them of what he was doing to prevent problems. Hopefully he will see this & reply.
Did'nt i hear someone above saying Revolut was Russian ?
If it is, why have'nt you ditched it.
part russian part english with a ukrainian father
Nik Storonsky, the Russian billionaire cofounder of London-based financial app Revolut
& holder of an UK passport
That’ll do for me, thank you.
hope it all goes well.

My 'smart move' purchase of Euros @ 1.16 a couple of years back when the rate was about 1.13 before Covid doesn't look so smart now.

I purchased a large amount of Euro's back in 2015, I still have some left and I was worried that, as they're the old series one, I would HAVE to change them for the new notes.
The good news is, that unlike the Bank of England where old notes have to be changed to the new ones by the end of September?
the Euro's are going to continue to be legal and be used along with the new ones.

PS. As I doubt I will need my Euro's in the future, at my age, it's not likely that I will venture overseas for the foreseeable future,
if anyone is interested in their purchase and we can make the exchange at one of the rallies I'm attending. PM me?

When I got mine in 2015, it was I.30 something to the pound.

That was funflair, I only needed €10k to change vans our two standard accounts did that.

Looks like nobody spotted my attempt at humour with this earlier post! Quite a few people have quoted it though...

Euro's comes out tops.

I opened up a Starling £ account recently, put in some money, which then permits you to open up a € account which I transferred a load into, so I now have Euro's at £1.00=€1.19 whatever happens to the rates in the next few months.

The days of taking Travellers Cheques or bundles of cash on your trips abroad have gone.
An account in the local currency is the way to go, which means you choose the time to make the conversion from £ to €.
We have all become FX Speculators !

We take cash, which once we are outside Poland means € because we do not travel outside the €-zone.

I have Zloty and € accounts in Poland and watch the exchange rates for a good time to buy: 3 minutes ago the £ was €1.2110. Having exchanged for our medium-term needs I do not worry about the rate - just draw out the € notes for the trip and go. One cannot beat Forex traders.

The pound seems to be gradually strengthening in this crisis, so I will let it run for a bit longer before buying more €.

It is 5 but only total of 200 € so would be small amounts.

The main reason I did not go with Revolute was the ATM limit.
Starling does not have an ATM limit.

Those are useless amounts. Maybe they are banking (pun) people exceeding them without knowing and then the charges click in.

If you want to use a lot of cash, then yes but you can pay for a premium account. These are the terms for the free one and there is no limit on using the card to pay for things which is what most of us do.

Not in little shops in countries like Greece and Poland, and not for expensive services either.

Small shops do not have card terminals and builders etc. do not have mobile card readers.

I use revolut to send money to in £'s then change to €'s & if I want large amounts of cash I send the €'s to another account, N26, where I can draw a daily amount of 1,000€ with a weekly limit of 2,500€ & a maximum of 3 withdrawals per month. The majority of my dd's or so's are with revolut with only 2 being with N26.

No charges , just the current exchange rate Santander Zero card
Santander Zero is no longer available, mine is just the Everyday Credit Card so they will charge 2.95% on all transactions.

I can never understand why holidaymakers by cash Euros at silly rates & take cash with them.

When the rate is stable I don't bother loading my Revolut card just use my Metro Bank DC get the same rate as Revolut.

I only ever carry cash of around 30 or 40 euros as 'walking about money'.

As advised by a colleague I carried 100 dollars when I was working in New York to save getting beaten up by muggers. It happened once when, intrigued by Simon and Garfunkel's lyrics, I went for a stroll down 7th avenue one evening to see the whores. It was enough to satisfy a couple of Rastafarian oiks who ushered me into a doorway and 'suggested' that I bought an LP from them. I still have it, unplayed.
