GBP/Euro at 1.20. Anyone buying early?

Just use ATM like you would in UK. No charges

I'm quite sure that the Euro hasn't been around that long, but this piece of news is interesting!
From the PoundSterling Live website:
The Pound to Euro exchange rate printed a high at 1.2082 on March 03, surpassing the December 2019 peak at 1.2081, and registering its highest level since July 1016.

I've been with Revolut since they 1st came out, and have successfully used it all around the world from Japan and China to Chile and Argentina. The rates have always been great. Thes days I tend to use NatWest black credit card which had the same or slightly better rates but if ever there's a problem I can talk to someone on the phone which is nigh on impossible with Revolut.

If you take into account the amount that you are looking is less than £1,000 then a potential 1 cent here or there is not going to make any noticable difference in your pocket. If you exchange larger amounts you usually get better rates and/or less charges. I found on the times I have exchanged that who was giving the best deal had changed so now I shop around.
Happy travels

Could do with a bit of advice if anyone can give me some.

I need to transfer a substantial amount of money to Germany for the balance of my new van.
Is it easy and secure to do it through my Revolut card?

Doing it through my Barclays Premier account will cost me £4k so looking at alternatives.

TIA

Have you any idea of the real value of Sterling now think again:

I presume you need to first convert £ to €.

I do not know the Revolt system.

I use Wise (were Transferwise) and have for many years. Give them a call. There fees are quite low and for a large sum they may quote you even lower.

You can go online to make the transfer to German account and pay by Bank Transfer from where you have the funds. If they are giving you a special commission rate they will probably do the transfer over the phone.

THey are quick and reliable.

If you are trying to second guess the financial market good luck with that.
Wall street pays traders a lot of money for getting that right.
It can go up or down, I have been buying US $$$'s, Euro's, HK Dollars for years for trips etc and my advice to myself is follow the Graph and make a judgement.
I purchased 2,700 euros on the 10th Feb and got 1.1533 so it looks like the £ is going up against the euro.
I always take US dollars with me wherever i go, you can exchange $$$$'s anywhere on the planet if things get hairy.

10th February Revolut was about €18.50. Fair old difference

Currency Club a minute ago was £1 = 1.201 euros.

I think there is a lot of comments earlier in the thread. Owner part Russian part Ukrainian from memory. Quandary maybe but certainly not Russian government owned. I’ve no problems with Russians but I do have with Mr Putin

Nik Storonsky, the Russian billionaire cofounder of London-based financial app Revolut

Bit more complicated than that

If you open a Starling £ account, you can then open a € account easy to transfer between accounts. I think the transfer rate is 0.4%. You then have a euro account to pay German trader.

I took out Revolut just for this purpose as I saved thousands compared to the Lloyds bank rate.

Was a bit worrying as I send about £50 over and chased the deal to make sure it went through then did the full amount😬😬
Took until next day for thr dealer to confirm even though they had received it in minutes😬😬

Thanks for that, were there any charges at all?
I have a Revolut card but never give it a thought and will be sending the money shortly.

I don't know exactly how you are going to do it but I believe there is a monthly limit on currency exchange with the standard "free" account, I also use Revolut for the currency exchange for our van but I took out the premium account for 6 months while I made several conversion at what I thought was a decent rate, as I wasn't happy leaving up to 200k on Revolute for a few months I then transferred 25k chunks out to a HSBC € account, the transfer out of HSBC was free but that was actually to a UK account so not sure about sending abroad.

On the Revolut website is an international transfer simulator, inputting a transfer of £1000 to Germany is instant at the current rate of €1.209 and free.
Inputting a transfer of £60000 incurs a fee of £295, I presume this is for the standard, free, account there are different accounts that incur fees with different T&C's.

I’ll upgrade to the premium account as it does have a lot of benefits to be fair.

That interesting because if I put in that exchange in the app (standard account) I get 1.209 rate for the £1000 but 1.215 if I put in for £60K, even £10k gives me the same 1.215 rate so not sure what is going on?

Arrived home yesterday after a week in Paris with my son and family, we went by car. I took around €550 with me as well as my usual credit cards and debit cards. I only used one €20 note in a week. France was always ahead of the game on card usage like chip and pin but now simply everywhere takes cards. Whilst there we visited markets, shops, museums, restaurants, cafes and the like and used trains and buses most days, no cash except for one occasion, and they were surprised when I didn't use a card.
