Have been told today by service engineer that my gas tank is just over ten years old so he will not give me a gas safe certificate , new regulations are if your tank is ten years old you have to have it replaced, can’t find any up to date news on this, as anybody heard the same

Can I ask how much an average capacity replacement underslung tank plus fitting would cost? Is there a cover that can be fitted to protect the tank from the elements? If not, can the tank be under sealed? Thanks.

I keep wondering how Liquid Gas UK came up with the 10 year period for recertification, it must be based on something. Th

I keep asking the question of who certifies them in the first place, I understand that the valves are fitted into the tanks by the dealers in the UK who sell the tanks, so are they then tested. Or are the tanks tested by the manufacturer, before the valves are fitted.
It may have already been said but they may just randomly test i in every 1000

Depends on what tests are required. Something like filling with air to a certain pressure and spraying with a leak detector or checking that they hold pressure could be done on quite a high proportion. Checking the weld quality by cutting one open would obviously be done a lot less frequently.

yes an air pressure test when you think about it could easily be done on the production line and maybe each one

10 YEAR TANK/CYLINDER INSPECTION

My understanding is that it’s always been 10 years and Autogas 2000 Leisure Ltd has always been completely open about this .

In fact on checking older paperwork this was mentioned in more than one place in the documentation, supplied at installation, all customers also receive a tank certificate issued by the manufacturer which again clearly states 10 years, knowing how fastidious my predecessor was about documentation and verbal instructions at handover I would be extremely surprised if anyone wasn’t informed.

As for some of the ideas regarding production of more substantial tanks etc , they would still require testing at 10 years and replacement valves, having visited one of the tank manufacturers production facility it’s a far more serious operation than some seem to imply.

We have discussed this at length this week and have decided that even if the testing facilities did become available as stated by many it would be difficult to see how it could be financially viable for either the owner or any company involved.

I can only imagine the reaction from some when presented with say a £500.00 bill and return of their old tank which failed at the last hurdle after refurbishing.

As has been stated before NO filling station should allow any out of test cylinders/ bottles / tanks to be filled , that includes self service stations as they are deemed to be the legal filler upon authorisation of the pump.

This thread has hopefully helped some people with information and has certainly highlighted to me that we need to be more vigilant before filling .
