Have been told today by service engineer that my gas tank is just over ten years old so he will not give me a gas safe certificate , new regulations are if your tank is ten years old you have to have it replaced, can’t find any up to date news on this, as anybody heard the same

Surely ultrasonic testing would determine such failures, however, we the consumer are not offered such inspection services. It's no wonder some consumers appear to be quite blasé about it all. :(

Jock. :)
You are correct, ultrasonic testing is part of the process, however as mentioned previously the cost of preparing the tank, testing the tank and replacing the fittings would be more than buying a new tank.

Does that mean companies like Calor are throwing away every cylinder as it’s cheaper to replace than have them tested…..Gosh…. no wonder Calor is expensive! 😉

Are you talking about the cost of a new tank only or the fitting too, which would be over £1000 then all in?

Maybe, I expect the cost of a 13kg cylinder for them in the numbers they go through is very small though! However, Calor have an inspection regime at every refill, I expect they will also have the ability to carry out any tests that they have to on site.

I wonder what they would charge to test the type of cylinder we are discussing? Maybe those of you who are reluctant to exchange your tank could try them!
