Garden Centres remain open (again )

The Wetherspooners will also need somewhere to go.
Trouble is that for many individuals that live on their own, especially men Wetherspoons is the only place they can find some company which mentally must be very important to them,,Cant be much fun living on your own..BUSBY.

I wonder why the powers that be in control of this farce have deemed it ok for Garden Centres and parks to be allowed open but have shut Zoo's, all set in in wide open spaces, plenty of room for exercise, obviously the cafes and animal houses should be closed.
The mind boggles we are being controlled by a bunch of idiots, Lockdown and Tier systems haven't worked in the past so why do they think it will work next time.
We know the virus thrives in colder climates so what did they expect to happen when temperatures dropped?
Lockdowns and tiers have not worked because millions of idiots are not listening to the elected idiots....Just been in my local Nisa,,2 people in there without masks and did not see one of the idiots wash their hands,,,Vaccine needed now,,anti idiot vaccine. BUSBY,

Both our local large garden centres, one Dobbies the other a large family owned, are open and their selling areas are at least 40% non garden items, including bedding, foot ware, furniture, furnishings, a large range of clothing amongst others. Yet the local independents will be closed.
Doesn't strike me as an even handed approach.
Mind you, all our major supermarkets are doing the same.

I suspect this won’t last for long. We can’t live in a world where all schools are closed for at least 7 weeks but you can go and browse around a garden centre as it’s deemed essential .
My guess is that every shop other than actual food shops will be told to close within 2 weeks .

This is not my idea of lockdown there's more places open than last time

That's a fair point. I guess it's more difficult for the newly solo.
However, I've lived on my own for 19 years in a small village and never yet been to a Wetherspoons. My son and DIL live nearby and I've found that meeting locals whilst walking their dog o'er hill 'n dale most days for the past 11 years has been a great socialiser.
I know all the dogs' names but few of the owners' names!

The thing is we/you don't have to visit these places.

Only because they are ideal spreading sites and their closure has no economic impact.
Especially since I understand that many of the devout people live in generally fairly large and multi-generation households and are at high risk, working in essential occupations unsuitable for working from home.

Most of the people who frequent garden centres will have had their jabs in a week or two
Most garden centres are just cafes that sell a few plants
But won't have any meaningful level of immunity until at least 21 days later.

And won't get the second dose required until 12 weeks after that.

Which in the opinion of some within the scientific community, couldn't be improved upon as a method of presenting a virus with a large circulating population of partially resistant people, thus encouraging it to mutate faster to improve its infectivity and circumvent the partial resistance it finds in its hosts, possibly rendering the whole exercise rather pointless.

It isn't a lockdown like the first one. But there won't be any jobs left if we don't at least let some of the economy generate some money.

And is it fair that Tesco/ASDA/Sainsbugs etc. can sell clothes, shoes, pots and pans yet the major retailers for these things such as Debenhams, Clarkes, Lakeland etc. have to shut?

Only emergency if you can't get it delivered.
Supermarkets can only deliver a small fraction of the food we need. Most people are going to have to go to a supermarket

Families tend to go to zoos , not to garden centres , the whole idea of this lockdown is to limit human contact in large groups
