Full time through winter in search of new life

Hold on, I never described anyone as a paedo, he has in past overstepped the mark trying to get off with young female campers (which seems to be why he’s in the caravan offsite), but it’s a huge jump from that to being nonce.

Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned the term ‘sex pest’ because even that’s probably a bit unfair, I’m sure it’s not how he sees himself, he will just see himself as jack the lad, and doesn’t appreciate that his boss doesn’t like him trying to get off with the customers.
Apologies for suggesting he may be a nonce.
However he is a liability, consequently I'd still get him off your payroll at the end of the season.

I'd leave all restaurant staffing issues up to whomever runs food operation, if they wish to re-employ him, it's up to them, but lay down the law when they take over that you don't want him on any part of the campsite, or using your facilities (which means realistically camping in a field next door will not be practical unless he has built in basic plumbing/sewerage.)

Whomever takes over the food operation is going to be a junior partner (as well as a tenant) so you need to be able to work with them.

We have already seen enough to have firmly decided that he won’t be retained in any capacity working for anyone.

You better ensure that once his contract is over that if he wants access to your facilities that he pays for them !
Otherwise he will continue to live in his caravan off site, and use your facilities to keep living there.
Worst of both worlds for you.

A site we stayed on, owned by friends had a chef who was a bit of a problem. Rude to everyone, on one occasion chucked someone's order at him for some reason.
The owners couldn't stand him but the punters loved him, seeing him as an eccentric genius ( he was a very good chef) and great entertainment, eventually he left in a huff about something to go to a large restaurant in the city (Montelimar)
I'm loving this thread, and I think you will make a success of it. Looking forward to being able to stay there.

Wouldn't touch one with a barge pole, the longer this goes on it is obvious he will never pay this back in a couple of lifetimes.
You can take the piss out of me as much as you like but I am only thinking of this couple who are going to ruin their lives.
Not taking the piss …just dont understand the point of calling them ”crazy” and their carefully considered idea a “white elephant”. It’s so salty.

Thank you Sir. Despite the obvious locational shortcomings and chronic lack of maintenance and huge required investment we think the place could intimately be a bit of a goldmine, but only with a bit of luck, a fair wind, and after the maybe 5-8years of decent graft I have left in me.

We had another long call with another of the banks today, they made all the right noises about the business case, are doing a final internal review and we have an appointment next week where they will present their offer. Sadly the interest rate ranges are really not looking good. It looks like the first offer tabled is going to be the best one, we’d counted on achieving at least half a percent better than that.

The pound hit a high of 1:1.1740 a couple of weeks back and I nearly pushed the exchange button. I didn’t but wished I had. It has subsequently dropped to 1.15 odd. Every basis point (1/100 of a percent change reduces what we can put up by best part of a thousand Euro. So that’s nearly twenty grand down and counting

Still, we are staying positive.

I didn't call them crazy just the idea and I just hope all you folks who are egging them on will be there to back them up when the money runs out.
A few posts back he was on about having to sell his watch and get new loans to pay the old ones.
If that is how the business is looking at the moment, look further down the line when he has a building site and no customers.
I'm sorry I wish all the luck in the world but he is certainly going to need it.

Whoa there hoss… !

I apologise if I come across as ‘going on’ about this or that. We don’t mean to ‘go on’

Yes we, well mainly I, have assets that may need to be liquidated to reduce the borrowing and/or ensure we have the residual capital for initial investment. It’s because there is fx risk (see previous post) and interest rate risk, which compound some (well, all!) other risks.

That’s the thing about business, it’s all a calculation.

But hey, I am lucky enough to be in a position where I can liquidate other assets to help with a business start up. Some are significant, others less so. I might not be prepared to outline why I have a watch in a safe that’s worth more than the camper van, but like any investment it’s just potential liquidity.

I had hoped to be able to bring my little fleet of fancy cars to France with me, but again, if interest rates get too silly, required investment is too much, and the reduction in the value of the pound hits too hard then I might need to liquidate one or more of my beloved Astons, or maybe I can get away with just offloading my Range Rover :)

A watch so expensive that it has to be in a safe is quite useless as a watch and is just an asset that can be cashed in if required. Range Rovers are lovely cars when they haven't broken down, I was quite pleased to get rid of mine
You are taking big risks and could get big returns, or the opposite of course, but that's down to you and you strike me as a winner.

I've got a rolex in the drawer cost a few peceta from a Spanish guy told me it was real maybe it's time to cash it in 🤑

Thank you again sir. I wondered if I should have mentioned the watches, Astons and Rangie as Chaser is already convinced this is all some kind of giant wind up :)

I can’t say where this place is but I can take pics. I will post a pic of one of the worst of the shower/toilet rooms if I can pluck up the courage to use it…. Just so it can be seen that there is no exaggeration. Might have a wander there now, deep breath, think of the toilet in Trainspotting…

Thank you David and Penny. Assuming all goes through, the site will still close at the end of the season as normal. We won’t be opening for business until next April at earliest. We need time to get some stuff done, about 50 mature stink trees to take down for a start, clear a section of woodland for putting our glamping tents in, and start planting other stuff. It’s certainly a different scale of gardening to what we’ve been used to. Building project one is 3 smallish new shower blocks.

I need to quick as possible find myself a tractor hopefully with some implements, a trailer, a decent cherry picker etc. The site comes with mini digger which will be doing some digging. We still trying ti work out how to level the pitches without making the ground too soft for all you people in your heavyweight motorhomes, they do so often make a mess of sloping wet grass.
If you need any extreme luxurious much larger then average and very keenly priced pods in wheels, in Andoversford near Cheltenham is a manufacturer who builds them, beautifully crafted for a good price, called my shire home

We will bear them in mind, but for obvious reasons, in France it’s easier and generally cheaper/much less hassle to source stuff from within EU.

About 30 grand, which is a steal, twice the size of most box shape sip panel garden studio ‘s for the same price, oodels of space, full electrics, kitchen, bathroom, mezzanine bedroom, living room, proper character as standard👍😎

Interesting, look like they are designed around a standard 20' container frame

After 40+ years on construction sites that’s a luxury Loo😂😂
I will second that as someone who used work in a builders office in fact I never used to use the loo I used to walk into town and use the loos in Debenhams:giggle:(y)

I will take pics of the worst ones tomorrow. These are so bad they have been taken out of service, so there’s a bit of a loo shortage.

This thread has got to take the biscuit for the most challenging, risk taking adventure ever,

Wow, what a project you are taking on I hope in a few years you will have totally turned it around.
