French Government unveils plan to extend use of private radar cars following trial in Normandy

I understand they are tendering to provide a service where for 6 hours per day minimum an employee drives around in an unmarked car collecting data, perhaps on pre-determined routes? What happens to the data is not their concern.
It has to be a concern otherwise how would they know that they are going to be able to recoup their tendering price ?

For those of you can’t seem to keep to French speed limits........

Unmarked cars equipped with hidden speed cameras are to be rolled out in three more regions of France from January 2020, the government has announced.

A total of 60 vehicles will be deployed in Brittany, Centre-Val de Loire and Pays de la Loire in the new year after the government deemed a year-long trial in Normandy a success

I guess they will be rolled out all over France eventually.
Many more locals will get caught than any tourists :)

Two weeks ago I was traveling to Epernay I decided to go to try out the Ayre at Mareuil-sur-Ay as recommended on this site. I stuck religiously to the speed limits which were well signposted. Up to the square where the Ayre is sited I was overtaken by several cars, all with French number plates. I have no problem keeping to the speed limits but the locals do it seems. Never mind, I was on holiday and many thanks to the funsters who recommended the site. Lovely place to spend the night and 25 yards away is a mini supermarket in which we spent 60 euros.. Lovely to walk along the side of the river on a sunny afternoon. (y)

Having just had 3 kids pass their driving test in recent years no they don't. They teach them to drive at an appropriate speed for the traffic conditions.
Quite right - it's a speed LIMIT not a TARGET.

Just because folk get away with it in Britain, why expect to get away with it in other countries, whose rules are different?
Go on holiday to chill, not chasing the speed limit, we do.

They need to do something in order to raise revenue.

Around our area 80%+ of all fixed speed cameras have had their lenses painted over by protesters.

Just spent 5 days at Peterborough and the main roads near there which you expect to be national speed limit I.e. 60mph or 70mph if dual carriage way are in fact 50mph but there seem to be a distinct lack of repeater signs which I thought was the law for any speed limit other than 30, 60 or 70mph.

Have I missed something?
Apparently the law is that there should be repeater signs displayed every so many hundred metres depending on how long a particular road is, the only reason I know this is cos I was listening to a discussion on radio about a solicitor who got clocked for speeding and he fought the case and won because of the omission of the repeat-
-er signs on a lengthy road, of course, he was aware of this as he specialised in Motoring law but the average motorist wouldn’t be aware of this. Just saying.

Couldn’t agree more, I always stay below the speed limit but I have heard of the occasional Motorhomer being clocked and fined for being just 1 km over the speed limit in France, for gods sake that’s just over half a mile over the limit, I don’t know how true this is, it was something that I was told by another Motorhomer but it wouldn’t surprise me for France, or Spain for that matter. Most police forces in UK allow 10% so why can’t France & Spain.

Agreed, lovely little village and riverside.

There is also another riverside spot not far away in the village and side-on.

But my lips are sealed.
