Flt strikes again!

Has anyone considered that it is antisocial behaviour of shops not to provide spaces for larger vehicles?

I know planning authorities rules etc., but then they are also at fault. At one time it was unusual for shops t provide pushbike stands, but that has changed, so why not get the provision of spaces for larger vehicles?

There are a couple of issues being discussed here.

Firstly, the fact that a FLT thought it ok to stay ‘long term’ in a supermarket car park. Most, rightly, condemn that behaviour.

Secondly, whether it is ever appropriate to park across multiple space. There are, clearly, circumstances when it is entirely appropriate and I have done so on numerous occasions.

If we’re away in the Motorhome and need shopping we will go to a supermarket and find an appropriate location to park our 8.4m tag axle. This may be across four or five parking spaces about as far away from the entrance as possible. On other occasions it may be longitudinally over two spaces, and occasionally in the same manner but occupying four spaces. As well as being mindful of where I could park, I have to consider my ability to exit the parking space. By that I mean that I have to consider if other, yet to park, cars could make it difficult for me to leave my space (my long overhang could swing out and potentially contact adjacent cars).

Am I denying other shoppers a parking space? Theoretically, yes, but, in practice, no.

If I am to find a suitable parking space I need a number adjacent spaces. Many a time we have enetered a supermarket car park with plenty of vacant spaces but with none of them adacent or suitable for me. On these occasions we leave and find an alternative. If we are able to find a suitable location, the likelihood that my four/five adjacent spaces are the only available spaces is extremely low. Therefore, I am extremely confident, that the manner of my parking doesn’t deny other shoppers a parking space.

Even in the extremely unlikely event that I did, my philosophical outlook would conclude, c’est la vie/you win some, you lose some/first come, first served/the early bird catches the worm, etc. Etc.

My custom is just as legitimate as anyone else’s.

If I wasn’t in the MoHo and entered a supermarket car park with no spaces available and with a MoHo taking up four spaces, would I be miffed? No, what’s the guy supposed to do.
