Would NATO fighter jets be straying in to Ukraine? With all their state of the art gear on board I guess they could go undetected but would they risk it?

It's one thing supplying all the weaponry and propping up NATO borders but maybe the stakes would be too high to be caught actually in the country.
I have seen twice on FR24 forte flying over the border in Moldova, then the trail disappears, and re appears back on Ro airspace elsewhere. Not sure about fighter jets, very possible. Being where I am, when I hear noise I look up and pull the app out, just curious what’s showing.

Way,way back when this thread started, I posted what an opportunity for the F35 to test its stealth and information capabilities and would not be surprised if a few sorties had been undertaken. However, there would be no need if it was considered risky as satellite surveillance is incredibly good.

That's right I remember that. At first I thought there'd be no chance of them risking it but then thought that's what the huge spending on these things is for - stealth etc so I guess it's totally plausable.

That's what all the refuelling activity will be for. Wouldn't want these planes straying into a Russia controlled part of Ukraine then running out of unleaded 😂

At the end of the day Ukraine is an independent Country and there is no reason why any aircraft with permission can’t over fly it.

Yes but we all know what the potential consequences may be. And I emphasise 'may'.

Don't see this one very often.

Is that an A400 the air chief marshal is in front of?
I think so. They have weird curly propellors and make a strange racket when overhead, sounds very different to a Hercules.

I've turned in to such a geek since this thread started  I'd never have known what kind of plane that was before this.

And the other day my highlight was logging on to FR24 just in time to see a stratotanker was heading right over head. Watched it for ages. They don't usually pass this way so much.

Many years ago my Round Table club visited The Norman Lockyer observatory near Sidmouth. Not only can you look through the scopes into space but they have a radio club there and lots of satellite photos. We saw Russian pics of naval squaddies in Devonport and by the time of day, shadows etc they were identifiable with the height being measured from the shadows. The pics had supposedly been produced out of focus to disguise how optically stunning they were. This goes back to the 1960’s!

Whereabout are you?

Our best tracking on FR24 was when we were sat with the camper at Chavannes Sur L'Étang watching the flights overhead when out son and family were travelling home from holiday in Greece and flew overhead on a clear evening. The flight was tracked on FR24 and by eye!

Currently flights of RRR call signs etc can be heard flying over mid Shropshire from or to RAF Brize Norton and seen regularly on FR24.

Russian flight from Brussels heading North over the North Sea. Pretty sure that's a government flight.
Possibly picking up spies diplomats recently png'd / declared persona non grata / booted out?

Slightly different NATO tanker track over Romania 🇷🇴 this morning much closer to the Black Sea. NATO may have something up over the Black Sea which needs gas.

Could be related to the as yet unconfirmed reports of the Russian guided missile cruiser Moskva being hit last night, perhaps even sunk, off Crimea by Ukrainian Neptune missiles. If UA did actually pull it off, possibly a Belgrano moment.

For background, the Moskva is one of the RU flagships and was told to “Go F yourself” in the Snake Island incident.

It’s basically a floating S300 surface to air missile platform that also carries SSN12 supersonic anti ship missiles, which RU have been using against land based targets in Ukraine.

If true, removing (submerging? Promoting to submarine?) the Moskva goes a long way towards opening up the airspace over the Black Sea for further UA operations.

Alternatively the tanker could be related to this news yesterday. The previous AWACS, Rivet Joint, Joint Stars and Global Hawk flights we’ve been seeing don’t have great coverage of Eastern Ukraine/ Donbas/ Crimea.

This flew along at about 300 feet over the river valley behind our house about half an hour ago. I must upgrade my phone as the lens cover is cracked and it was at the limit of the zoom. I'm going with an A400, but it didn't sound like a turbo prop and I wouldn't have thought it would be a Globemaster ? Never seen either of those up here. 🤷‍♂️
