Nice NATO sentry, I notice this plane doesn’t need to get to close to the border, very capable. Took of a US base in RO.

And a tanker for company. There must be other planes up there I don’t see on FR24, I can hear them above, but I don’t se them.

It may be something obvious but I notice some aircraft come up as different colours ?.

If you mean the ones with generic image, yes, it’s not necessarily the one above. Colours may differ.

It had flown from Yorkshire so why was it in Wales flying in circles over Swansea

I don't know?

Surely a Heli would have been more suitable?

Perhaps a demonstration?

Southampton used to have one of these planes to track drugs coming up the channel...

We do have police helicopters in wales:rofl: There has been nothing on the welsh news so it’s a mystery.

According to ADSB data it was on a non-operational flight. I’m guessing that means training or testing?

They seem to make non-operational flights a few times a week over major cities E.g. Huddersfield & Liverpool in the last few weeks. Often seems to result in articles in the local paper the next day or two haha.

NPAS apparently have 4 based at Doncaster which can be called on by any UK police force to assist with search taskings E.g. suspects, stolen cars and public order etc. Cheaper to buy and run than 4 helicopters, plus all-weather capability.

Ps not trying to be a know it all, I didn’t know any of this beforehand and only dug deeper after seeing davanne’s post tonight.

The 2x KC-46 Pegasus (Pegasi?) from Moron (?), Spain 🇪🇸 seem to be finding their legs. I think tonight might possibly be the first operational refuelling sortie over Poland 🇵🇱 for the new tankers.

Hell of a way to go to topup whatever invisible kit is thirsty over Poland.

The KC-46 has apparently been dogged with problems, even more than the F35 e.g. delays, cost overuns, accusations of dodgy dealings and technical issues such as plastic particles from manufacturing left in the fuel tanks and the new “remote camera boom” not actually being clear enough for the operator to make out the plane they’re trying to refuel.

Looks like Turkey 🇹🇷 has the daytime AWACS shift over Romania 🇷🇴

The “Peace Eagle” is the Turkish version of the E-7A Wedgetail, Boeing’s replacement for the ageing E3 Sentry.

Wedgetails are currently in service with the Aussies and a few others, including planned for the RAF.

2x Grumman C2 Greyhounds inbound to NAS Sigonella, Sicily.

Greyhounds are specifically designed to carry supplies to/from US carriers - high priority cargo, personnel and mail. The USS Harry S Truman and French Charles de Gaulle are operating somewhere in the Eastern Med, C2s having been used previously to deliver supplies to/from both.

Not sure what's going on above me. A Logan air flight went over head really low. I'm near Aberdeen airport but no planes really go straight over as I'm not really parallel with the runways. Not showing on FR and it's been over twice more with it's landing gear down although not as low as the first time.

On the news today verified by the bbc, Russia have a helicopter missing, well missing it’s tail section as it was blown oft 😳

Sentry above me I can hear it. But it’s not on its own, there’s other noise hovering that’s not visible. And there’s a tanker not far.

Heard on the Ro news today, that 150 British finest, majority pilots and highly trained personnel landed on Ro NATO base today, and brought few typhoons with them. I guess they got busy already.

The UK government announced a few weeks ago it was deploying 6 Typhoon FRG 4 fighter aircraft to Ro. along with support crews. This is where the bulk of these numbers will come from. Like you say, all highly skilled.

My guess for the associated invisibles escorts for the AWACS you’re hearing is Uk or German Typhoons or US F15s or F16s :giggle::unsure:

I guess think 150 personnel is roughly 3-6 Typhoons? I’m basing this on the 6xEF18 Growlers recently deployed to Spangdalem, Germany 🇩🇪, resulting in 200 US staff actually deployed ?

Yes, makes sense. I believe 6 typhoons landed in Ro, with the needed personnel to cover the service. I can tell you they are loud above country side. The old commoners ( bless) in the village are actually expecting the russians at some point, like in the past.

Would NATO fighter jets be straying in to Ukraine? With all their state of the art gear on board I guess they could go undetected but would they risk it?

It's one thing supplying all the weaponry and propping up NATO borders but maybe the stakes would be too high to be caught actually in the country.

We don’t want our own missiles shooting down our very own aircraft!
