I think the reference to Kate Moss was to do with it being better looking than other RAF fighters at the time. The Lightning was no more than two engines with a pilot sat on top.

I think this is the flight that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is on. Due to land at Brize in 4.5 hours.

6 years in an Iranian prison but I bet that 2 and a half hour delay to take off would have felt like hell!

In the first few months of lockdown I was regularly tracking RAF globemasters out of brise norton, the were practicing coming into land at all the quiet commercial airports, going around 4 or 5 times then moving onto the next location
We’re about eight miles from Manchester airport and when lockdown was on we were shocked to see a Hercules doing the same. They were coming in from strange directions almost stood on one wing.
They were apparently practicing landing and takeoffs from airports they couldn’t normally get into. Very strange and interesting to watch.

We had a few c130 and a400m fly into Leeds bradford wondered what they were doing, I thought they might be delivering vaccines????!

Spitfire currently over Wellingborough, Northants.

Edit: looks like it’s heading back towards Northampton over Moulton. Think it took off from Sywell.

RAF Rivet Joint got the evening shift sniffing signals over the Polish 🇵🇱 border. Not sure I’ve seen one out this late before.

FORTE11 has been snooping 🧐 Black Sea and now over Romania 🇷🇴 . Looks like it’s heading inland further Northwest.

Sometimes I find out mildly interesting things (to me anyway) which I assume are probably already well known to others.

This RAF Voyager seems to spend all its whole life making the 2 day trip from Brize to Dakar to Mount Pleasant, Falklands and back. Every. Single. Day.

I'd pretty much guarantee that some of the aircraft on this thread such as FORTE and the Rivet Joint are directly responsible for the unusually high number of Russian Generals getting killed in Ukraine.

I was reading yesterday that the Russian communications system failed early doors over there. I have no idea how exactly but I'd like to think there was some sophisticated anti-coms warfare going on!

Anyway, the failed comms system meant that the soldiers had no choice but to use more old fashioned lines of communication and of course these signals are vulnerable to the high tech interception methods used by the above planes. This can quite often give away the locations of these Generals and you can imagine the rest.

I've been following this thread since it was first started and have formed the opinion there are two different NATO activities going on at the same time. One, being visible to one and all is the daily patrolling of the NATO boarder to demonstrate to Putin there is an organised multi-national surveillance activity in place and the second one, not visible to anyone is what is happening on the ground in Ukraine and probably inside the Russian boarder. Russia has not developed its intelligent gathering systems and lags far behind the west. I read a report on how sophisticated the west had become with its unmanned and manned systems and as a result could make up to date detailed analysis of what was happening on the battlefield and communicate to commanders at a moments notice. The Russians have none of this which may explain why they have stalled and suffering from huge losses and the M.O.D. is up to speed with what is happening on the ground and passing essential intel onto Ukraine forces.

Also Cruise Mapper app worth a look. Displays many other vessels.

And long may it continue.

Shock, horror….. an hour ago I checked on a jet overhead and saw that it was a KLM scheduled flight from Tumbleweed international airport (Humberside) to Hamsterjam. Single daily flight at the moment but plans to increase to 3 a day

Anyone any info on this flight? Seems it could be cargo or passengers.

Also looks like Riga air traffic control tower will be busy for the next hour or so

Former JAL 747 now operated by National Airlines. Flew into RZE yesterday from Dover Air base, Delaware, which seems to be a hub for current cargo from the USA.

Seems to have done flights in recent months contracted to US Transportation Command - think they have a similar role to Royal Logistics Corps.

Sorry don’t know what’s it carrying. Could it be picking something up? Can’t imagine it’s going sightseeing from BHX - I live right under the landing path ~10 miles out so it’ll probably flight right over haha.

Knew you'd have some info Brocola (y)

I thought maybe a first group of refugees but don't think they'd be coming from that area.

Also Birmingham seemed a strange destination, thought it more likely to be a military site it would be landing at.

Seems a plane has crashed in China with 130 odd passengers.
