So what about using moho (we do also have car) for essential Tesco shopping. Surely what defines what an essential vehicle is what you are useing it for I.e. essential shopping. As appose to a car is essential vehicle but a moho is not.???
It's the purpose of the journey not the vehicle you are driving.

Don’t forget You have to book an MOT and the booking and subsequent test is recorded on the DOT compute, which the Police can access, so only tell them you are going for MOT if you actually are, they done do you for obstruction as well if you get caught.
I am only going to and from the MOT test centre and I am booked in 👍🏻

Be very aware, I just collected my 640 from Lowdhams Newark where I took it for habitation check and service yesterday. On the way home to Northampton I was stopped by the Police and explained the reason for my journey. my wife and I were immediately issued with a two hundred pound fine each as the Police said that this was not an essential journey even though I explained that I would lose my warrenty if the hat check was not carried out. It has turned out to be a very expensive service.

Could you ask the OP on the forum the dealer who did work as Lowdhams is closed ? Thank you .

Are we getting our knickers in a twist over using motorhome ? There are no rules or even guidance indicating what shape or number of wheels we can use on our essential journey. Is there anything that says you cannot use your motorhome to travel to the shops/ doctors etc, ?don’t think so.
So as to stop any arguments with Police I have removed the cushions and emptied all draws and cupboards so I cannot be accused of using the vehicle for anything other than transport.
My van is our only vehicle and I go out in it on average once per week shopping and we have never been stopped yet.
those of you who have a van parked on your drive not moving because you use a car, don’t be frightened to go to the shops or other essential travel in the van to give it a run/ charge the batteries, as long as you don’t decide to travel 20/30 miles to your favourite farm shop passing 3 or 5 supermarkets, I think you could get fined as it is not in the spirit of keeping others safe.

So now I am worried about my MOT for my motorhome . I guess I shouldn’t take it to the garage now but if they are open then i would have thought this was ok . Confused now .
You are allowed to take it to a pre booked MOT under the current essential travel regulations. There are no further extensions to the MOT holiday. MOT centres are open. I will be taking my car next week for MOT and the wife's two weeks later.

"MOTs expiring after 6 January, 2021, will not be extended due to the new national lockdown. MOT test centres remain open. Car owners must book the MOT test as usual.
Drivers should not take vehicles for an MOT test if they are feeling unwell, showing symptoms of coronavirus, or self-isolating.
However, even if vehicle owners cannot attend for reasons linked to illness, the vehicle will not receive an additional six month extension to its MOT.
If the vehicle is about to run out of road tax - which cannot be renewed without an MOT - owners should register it as off-road SORN. The vehicle must not be stored on or used on public roads during this period."

Why are most going on about an MOT?
And why can't people holds their hands up and admit it was a fair cop boss, and i am bang to rights.

No booked apointments are on the DVSA computor system. Tests are booked on immediately prior to the test.

Just use a Mobile Habitation Service Provider instead ?
Travel for work purposes is allowed.

So it wasn't Newark, it wasn't for an MOT and possibly it wasn't Lowdhams.

Couldn't have been Lowdhams, unless they're operating under cover

Travelworld were giving 6 months extension for hab checks for warranty purposes.

Sounds like typical Facebook type Boll0x to me.
Since when is an MOT not essential safety work.
So is the general consensus that:-

The motor home was not going for an MOT.

That Chausson are happy to honour their guarantee providing the hab check is done once restrictions are lifted.

That there is some confusion over there being a Lowdhams dealer in Newark.

If so seems like fake news.

This would not have happened had you been in a Auto-Trail. :giggler:

Yes, if it's the truth. Doesn't detract from my stance though, about "having a story ready" so you can go out a potentially spread germs.
This discussion is getting a little off topic now . I am going to take my motorhome for a MOT .This is legal as the MOT stations are open ,also no extension of MOT this time .
I am not spreading the virus , just want my vehicle safe and legal my friend 👍🏻

I was wondering this as Lowdhams is in Gunthorpe and classed as Nottingham

just read all the thread (unusual for me) with a rye smile thinking why would the OP mention that they had just been fined knowing that it would open the can of worms and ridicule then I wen back and read
'Copied from the Chausson forum'.
kept me entertained for a few minutes

They haven’t been fined it’s a fixed penalty notice.

They could have opted to go to Court and argue their case.
I do believe 🤔

If they only got told off I doubt we'd be reading about it and reinforcing the Essental Travel Only message.

IMO £200 wasn't enough. We should be threatening to impound vehicles too. No mixed messsaging, nothing hard to understand, Essential Travel Only
Unless testing your eyes

Now I'm worried!

Today, I took my van to a Fiat main dealer body shop to have some accident damage repaired. I took the van on the premises that garage repairs are classed as essential business and its legal to leave home (according to Gov.uk web site).
Also its keeping the business open and employing the labour.

I didn't pass a police car fortunately!

There were a couple of pedestrians who pointed and shouted some abuse. I just thought they were ignorant for jumping to conclusions. I had in the windows a signs in large letters ' NOT TOURING GOING FOR GARAGE REPAIRS'

So in a couple of weeks I'm going to get the call to collect the van and drive it home.

I really could do without a £200 fine, after paying insurance excess and expecting a hike in the next premium.

Personally I think the whole op was made up, loads of things wrong with the story, but in another thread we have a bloke traveling from spain to get a jab, why wasn't he fined?

The opi ion given by our local police is if m h is kept off the road ie storage or driveway then an mot is not needed as the vehicle is not used for essential travel. Consequent damage or deterioration is unfortunate. If, when allowed, travelling to mot ensure it is booked withe mot station.

Unlike many offences I think this is all down to the individual officer's interpretation. As far as the OP goes what has he to lose in appealing?
How do you interpret essential? An MOT is not only essential but a legal requirement.
It depends. If you have another vehicle and store the MH off the road you could leave it until after lockdown.
