Probably that and the fact there were two of them. He might have had a chance had he been alone. Taking a passenger is definitely not essential.
Took MH yesterday, picked up today?

2 vehicles and 2 trips?

LesW got me thinking now!!! do you need an MOT to park on the road or just to use the vehicle. it certainly need road fund license.
I understand that without an mot you cant get road tax.

so maybe i answered my own question
If the vehicle is parked on a road then it is being, "Used" regardless of whether it is being driven or occupied.

So what about using moho (we do also have car) for essential Tesco shopping. Surely what defines what an essential vehicle is what you are useing it for I.e. essential shopping. As appose to a car is essential vehicle but a moho is not.???
That’s what I thought . Motorhome lives matter as well 😀

Like I said if he had arranged for it to be done in the day and travelled alone he might have had a chance of convincing the police.

I occasionally use my MH to go for essential shopping rather then using my car or motorbike. Am I now to be told what vehicle I should use for my essential travel? Using my MH occasionally is "essential" to me as prolonged standing on the drive may result in corroded discs and seized callipers and the resultant large bill for replacement - I know, I've been there before!
I suppose I'm fortunate in that I live a mile away from the MOT stations for my car, MH and motorbike and for the 4 wheels they operate a collect and return service. The MB garage is right by the bus stop that runs past my front door. But how essential are any of them as I'm not supposed to leave my house except for essential travel? Oh b*****r, my old brain gets confused with all the changing rules officer!

you wont get me on a bus in normal times, let alone during a pandemic.....;)

The law states you must not use your car without an MOT, of course the word use could be open for debate, but I think just parking is classed as 'using'.

Also see this.

I’ve got my story ready for the police .
I am taking my motorhome for the MOT because unlike the first lockdown , MOT stations are open and no extension of MOT has been given . I can also say it’s the only vehicle I “own “ which is true as my car is a company car .

Why are we looking for every excuse to flout the rules, whether it's lying about our transport or hiding bacon in cupboards, if the rules are made, observe them or don't moan about the consequences, if you don't like them, lobby your MP or protest.

Nor me normally, but the bus rumbles past my door usually with just the driver aboard and as I have no alternative, needs must. Hands, face, space.............

I think it was the fact he took it for a habitation check and tried to use the warranty as an excuse was a mistake
That's the sort of attitude that causes the virus to spread. Oh, it's only me, it'll be ok, not doing much, can twist the truth to suit, it could wait but I don't want to........times a few hundred thousand such non-essential activities and the rest of us are left in the mire. MOT can fit until there is a prospect of using the vehicle, you may as well save on road tax as well and declare SORN.

Our leaky Chausson is due to go in soon for repairs (luckily only 7 miles not 75), think I'd better check that it's ok to take it there. The habitation check was due last April, we finally had it done in September, nice dealers backdated it to August and no problem from Chausson about delay.

But what if I need the MOT to tax the motorhome and park it on the street ? Would this meet with your approval ?

So now I am worried about my MOT for my motorhome . I guess I shouldn’t take it to the garage now but if they are open then i would have thought this was ok . Confused now .
Hopefully you are not going 75 miles to an MOT station, the distance was probably more off a problem.

sorry but you cant lecture on essential journeys and then even consider taking in your vehicle surely not!!

DiggerJon You asked, "I occasionally use my MH to go for essential shopping rather then using my car or motorbike. Am I now to be told what vehicle I should use for my essential travel? "

The answer is no. You are not told to make a decision as to what vehicle you use when shopping, however that only remains so when the use of the vehicle, (whatever it is) is Essential.

I could make a case for visiting my nearest supermarket (500yds) by car to make purchases that I could not carry those purchases home by foot, but, at the same time, I could not justify that journey for just say, the purchase of a daily newspaper.

From the person fined.
Thx for feedback, I have spoken to the justice dept today, they have been very clear the MH is considered as a secondary vehicle in 99% of cases and therefore if you own a primary other vehicle it is illegal to visit a dealership for any reason. Dealers are only allowed to carry out essential safety work by law, that does not include MOT or checks. Some dealers are ignoring this apparently but the ministry of Transport is carrying out checks to check on dealers of HGVs, PSVs and class 4 vehicle's (MH)
What if it is parked on the road outside your house & the MOT has expired or due to?
Edit. Just looked at Lowdhams website. Seem to be Nottingham or Huddersfield, and they are CLOSED for the duration.

Copied from the Chausson forum.

Be very aware, I just collected my 640 from Lowdhams Newark where I took it for habitation check and service yesterday. On the way home to Northampton I was stopped by the Police and explained the reason for my journey. my wife and I were immediately issued with a two hundred pound fine each as the Police said that this was not an essential journey even though I explained that I would lose my warrenty if the hat check was not carried out. It has turned out to be a very expensive service.
Lowdhams are not in Newark ?

I would think you can use any vehicle you wish for any essential journey. There's a possible question if you have more than one and it's the leisure vehicle that requires an MoT but even nothing can be inferred from the OP which was about a leisure vehicle being taken for a hab check or service. Neither of which has anything to do with roadworthiness or use for an essential purpose.

If someone was planning to use their MH for isolation within their household if anyone got symptoms (or if anyone classed as an essential worker was using it on the drive) then a hab check for safety reasons (gas, electric) would be seen as essential.

Please let common sense rule and stop trying to find justification for what you do. As for the legality of parked vehicles etc, if you are not permitted to attend some form of service, it could prove difficult to find you at fault for not doing so.

Police these days don't do things alone, it takes two just to buy chips.

Agree pappajohn and ‘Lowdhams in Nottingham’ are closed have been for a good while. Surprised if their other branch is open.

Don’t forget You have to book an MOT and the booking and subsequent test is recorded on the DOT compute, which the Police can access, so only tell them you are going for MOT if you actually are, they done do you for obstruction as well if you get caught.

I think that's fair enough. Makes no differenec to the spread of the virus what vehicle you are in.

Motorhomes do stand out though so increased risk of drawing attention to yourself I guess.
