Fiat 9 speed auto recall notice issued

I’m no mechanic but I can only imagine that the torque will be electronically reduced to protect the gearbox . I may of course be well off the mark with my layman’s guess .

I read that a few days ago , very interesting. I’ve got a few consumer rights questions of my own that will need answering if my layman’s guess proves to be accurate.

Oh dear, Lenny HB have you seen this.

Just wonder if there’s a way of checking if we’re affected or is it every single one. I’ve read the article but no exact date ranges. Consort was in possession of ours in May 2024 so we’re certainly in the date range. Right model. Or do we wait for a letter?

I'M surprised the ZF box is giving problems, as the ZF is fitted to 44 tonners such as Scania & Volvo and has a reputation for being bulletproof. I suspect the problem may lie in the choice of which model has been installed in the Fiats, as at 180hp the box they've chosen may be on its limit. Others with more knowledge will comment I'm sure.

I can supply the knowledge that Scania and Volvo make their own gearboxes and they wouldnt use the same one as a ducato. Most 44t s have at least 12 speed boxes.

I think DAF use ZF gearboxes and they re not good. ZF used to make excellent manual boxes.

I was an HGV driver eons ago in an ERF with a Fuller RT11609 Range Change box and we were envious of ZF at the time.
I used to occasionally drive a Cargo with a straight cut Fuller, not the easiest. Interesting choice for an ERF, mind you I never did get the hang of the Eaton twin split, I remember asking another driver how he changed down? the answer was that he only did it when he was well away from the office

The article is this month Nov 2024, it only mentions Series 8 Ducatos, so hopefully the Series 9 is OK.
it also says the following which is obviously wrong. I will call my local Fiat professional tomorrow.

There is only small consolation : the new Ducato 9 uses a new automatic transmission with eight gears.

So should I contact Adam Morey and ask the question or is Fiat going to contact me?
I’ve tried to access My Fiat but can’t get any information, it does not recognise my reg number.
Something else to spoil my experience of what was my dream, to own a motorhome.

Some of the background information given doesn’t sound quite right. They say the problem is confined to Series 8 because the new Series 9 uses an 8 speed transmission. However several of us already have Series 9 Ducatos with 9 speed boxes, my understanding is that the new model is the Series 10 and that is the one coming with the 8 speed boxes. This leaves the status of the Series 9 models open to question. I have one of the Series 9 2.2litre 140BHP engines which don’t appear to be affected but it would still be reassuring to know exactly what is causing a problem that can be cured by simple reprogramming. My amateur guess is that the more powerful engines are changing gear at the peak of the power curve/revs and are putting a strain on the belts that engage and disengage the gears and the point at which they change gear needs tweaking.

We’re in the same position and our Oslo is a 180HP Series 8 Auto so I’ll be giving Fiat Professional a ring tomorrow and will update here when they give me an answer

Mine was in my Fiat camper account. I rang Fiat in Hull they are aware and booked me in for a while you wait appointment 30-60 mins 👍

Is the Fiat 9 speed auto the same gearbox as used by Chrysler/Jeep in USA?

It is based on the same box but strengthened for the heavier load.
Also used in FWD Range Rovers.

The faults on the jeep I've not seen reported on the Ducato.
