If anyone has watched F1 on the tele there's nothing to touch having coffee on the starting grid or going around the circuit in your van , or standing in the tunnel and imagine the row there must be when the cars go through.
This isn't all though it's just the atmosphere of the place.
Not motorhome friendly though unfortunately, have to park out of town and bus or train in.

I agree with Nasher but I was born here.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
You don't have to go far but, if you want to cross the sea. You can't beat the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 Paradise in the Irish sea.

And IMO riding/driving around the nearly 38 mile historic Isle of Man TT circuit, with no speed limits on some stretches has gotta be way better than Monaco - I'm smiling, remembering my last lap as I'm typing this 🙂 (hint, look at my Avatar)

The Ardeche and Tarn Gorges, and Chamonix valley for walking. Even if you tend to avoid campsites, stay in the Argentiere one, 5 miles from Chamonix, simple and cheap, and has the great advantage of a free bus service up and down the valley.
The towns and cities in the Rhone valley for history and fine architecture, Avignon, Arles etc.
The Camargue for nature and wide vistas, and excellent cycling.

My favourite, by a long chalk, is Greece and in particular the Peleponnese. We went through France, across the Po Valley in Italy. From Bari we took the ferry to Patras.
Saw Olympus, Mycenae, Delphi and other interesting ancient sites. In terms of travelling, it's not been surpassed for us.
Dreaming of returning. 👌Good luck wherever you go.

Good questions. Dog walking, hiking, places of historical interest or places of beauty.
Like the sun and warmth but not a sun worshipper as have been blessed with Celtic skin colouring!

I'm not sure a list of places apart from the obvious ones like Venice will give you much help.

My suggestion, given your interests, would be to look at areas or routes such as following the Loire from the sea to the source then returning down the Lot. Masses of interesting scenery and villages along these routes.

Staying in France we like Brittany but this is the closest bit of France to where we live so for us it is easy to reach. The drive is longer for those coming from the Calais area. The south of France is warmer and drier than Brittany and as an example anywhere from the Cévennes eastwards to say the Verdon Gorge has lots of interest. Which isn't to say there are not lots of other great places in France. It is probably our favourite European country and the sheer variety you can find in it is part of the charm.

Spain also has massive variety and the north coast including Galicia will keep you busy for several weeks. The Pyrenees are spectacular but the weather can be changeable. Cities like Granada, Cordoba, Segovia, Seville, Cadiz etc are all worth a visit even if you only stay for one night and see the highlights.

I'm undecided about Portugal. It has some great beaches and remote areas but as a bird watcher I can't overlook the lack of raptors in the Portuguese sky - the locals systematically poison and shoot them. :( Spain is a bird-watching heaven and the Monfragüe National Park is one of Europe's top birding destinations where you have a good chance of finding birds you have probably never seen before such as the Black Stork. Go on an organised bird-watching trip if you can. You can find one of these at local campsites.

Switzerland has chocolate box views almost everywhere but it can be ruinously expensive. The Italian Lakes area is nice but I would avoid the popular lakes and go for one of the smaller ones like Lago d'Iseo unless you like crowds. :) The very south of Italy including Sicily has a lot of interest for us but there is no denying it is a long drive.

I find Germany a bit too manicured and organised for my taste but touring it in a MH is very easy.

I've visited Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland but never in a MH. For scenery it would have to be Norway but like Switzerland it can be very expensive unless you can be more or less self-sufficient while there.

The DK Eyewitness Guidebooks are where I look first for ideas. My suggestion would be get the ones for Spain and France and have a browse over the winter and plan your trips for next year. :)

We love France and in particular: Tarn gorge, Provence, Cevennes, the Lot river, Isle de Re, Brittany, Annecy and the med. We also loved Norway. We have yet to visit Spain - was to be this autumn ... next year hopefully.

They will love this - so different and well worth a visit

Definitely. They have their own aire. When we arrived intending to overnight but the Dutchman next to us said it would need more than one day to do it justice. We stayed 2 nights and it was incredible. If possible you can also book for CineScenie which is on during the season - that is also an amazing experience.

The Peloponnese, southern Greece. Fantastic scenery, not too many tourists in Summer and very few in winter. The food is simple but very tasty. The people are so generous and friendly. "Wild Camping" is possible almost anywhere. The Greek definition of camping is taking your chairs out and opening the awning. Other than that you are just sleeping NOT camping. Only once in 12 years was I told to move. And that was because the trawlers were coming into the harbour and it would be "too noisy" for us. If you like culture there are enough sites to keep you going for years. Worth opening a long time there.

It really doesn't matter where you go. If the weather is good you'll have a great time wherever you are because you're in full control of your choice of activities. And that is the real joy of a motorhome.

We love the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland are also great.

We've taken our campervan to Iceland four times. Progressively mire tourists though. Expensive to get there but reasonable once there if you buy the camping card and don't eat out too much. Next summer would be a good time to go, there'll be fewer tourists around!

Sorry for my ignorance but how do you get it there?

We love France and Spain for touring in the motorhome. It’s so easy and so varied. They have a bit of everything. I like walking and countryside but need towns and cities for history and a bit of life.
Brittany, Normany and the Loire are favourites that we go back to again and again. There’s always something new. A great starter for a first trip perhaps.

Most of my trips to Italy have been city breaks so I love it but the driving is not quite as relaxing! I like Venice but Florence is number one for me.

We’ve only been up and down the Rhine and Mosel which is pretty but all looks the same. Just sitting by a river drinking is not my thing. The cakes were amazing though.

For a wow at every corner it has to be Norway, we went on an organised tour of Southern Norway last year. We were with a fun group. Very well organised, mainly we catered for ourselves as it’s not cheap. We were not blessed with good weather but despite that it was amazing. We did add on a week in Western Denmark but it was disappointingly dull after Norway, sorry Denmark. Even Silkeborg and peat bog man.

We were due to head to Hungary, Serbia and Slovenia this year....

We used to take the ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg then drive to Hirtshals in Northern Denmark and get the ferry (Smyril Line) to Seydisfjordur. That was a grand total from home to Iceland of about 4 hours driving. Now the Esbjerg ferry has gone we have to drive through to Denmark. The ferry schedule allows time in Torshavn in the Faroes, or you can drive off the ferry there, have time in the Faroes and then pick up a later ferry. The ferry is, as you would expect, expensive so you'd need to go for long enough to make it worthwhile.

Ours is on the Costas but I'm keeping quiet because it's a wild camping spot and if it gets busy then it'll be stopped. Otherwise, anywhere near the coast in Spain.

It's not rain, it's liquid sunshine 🙂
We had plenty of that last week in Devon!
We much prefer Germany to France although the weather can be problematic but the whole place is so much neater and the local people we find are much easier to get along with. We have been into Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovenia which is truly lovely and must not forget Spain and Portugal. you have the opportunity to do them all if the mind is willing. We just like travelling. One thing we are planning in a couple of years time is to go around the Baltic including Russia.

Austria and Switzerland are favourites for alpine scenery, and if the weather is against you, head on south to Croatia.

Also like Almeria, southern Spain, in shoulder seasons and winter. (y)

Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia.
Not so keen on Croatia, but it has some highlights.

Unlike Kiwi above we loved Croatia, defo one of our favourites. First stop has to be the Plitvice Lakes and then drive east along their motorway to Dubrovnik and it is one of the best fast drives we've done (scenery and not much traffic). Spend a time at Dubrovnik and then slowly trundle your way back along the coat road. Stunning scenery, lovely people, good campsites, stop and go over to an island or two and then finish via KRK (take in a naturist campsite if you want - Croatia claims it was invented there), then round to Istria with it's Italian influences. After that if you keep driving you're into Italy and not too far off from Venice.

Cant even do Southport , Blackpool, Fleetwood or Morecambe at the moment !
On a more serious note love the Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, and Northumbria get the right weather and its stunning

How do you get on with Holland? It used to be campsites or nothing, are there other options now?
We couldn't get on with Holland at all, camps are very expensive, apart from the one on the outskirts of Amsterdam which was very good for visiting , forget how much it was, not cheap but you could catch a boat from it to the back of the rail station for free which was very good.

We love it, we dont use campsites, we use small sites that take half a dozen at most where we can, some small sites have wifi better than home, stunning shower and toilets etc and very quiet which we like.
Depends on how close we want or need to be to town or city.
We stayed at one large campsite in Delph, the Hague and it was busy as hell, Butlins on steroids (not that i have ever been to Butlins) so stay clear of there.
Check out "The Green Donk" just one of our fav's. "Minicamping Green Donk" at sHertogenbosch.
